Jamal - really solid. Never looked under pressure. Claimed everything he needed too. Distribution still a bit hit and miss but Moore may just be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Baldock. Defended well, not as much joy going forward as they were pretty dogged defensively. But not much between him and freeman imo.

CCV - great finish. Defended well against a handful in Madine and classy on the ball. Could become a fixture in this side.

Wright - as ever. Did everything needed. What a guy!

JOC - the usual solid performance. Tried to get forward as usual. Didn't Mia a step defensively

Lafferty - forgot him when originally typing this up. Solid if unspectacular game. Similar to his performances last year. Did what was needed and defended well. One whopper of a foul near the end!

Coutts. As the song goes - 'never gives the ball away'. They were an energetic midfield and the conditions made it hard to impose our usual play. But he still looked a class above anything Bolton had to offer.

Fleck as above. Not the conditions for a champagne performance but dug in when needed. And again was better than anything in boltons midfield

Duffy. Quietest game of the season but kept the ball well and tried to move it when he could. Not much joy for our offensive players as they defended well.

Sharp - felt for him today. Battled but didn't have the raw pace that could have troubled them.

Clark - slightly more involved than billy. But again not real clear cut chances. Took a few whacks but battled on.

Subs

Brooks - couple of nice touches but we were mainly defending as they pushed for an equiliser.

Lundstram. Performances improving game by game - didn't lose posention. couple of skilful touches to evade Bolton players and was unlucky to hit the bar when put through 1v1. (Similar to claytons at the weekend)

Bash - came on with a minute left for 150th appearance. Great servant to the club.

Over all a good win. We rested played and prevailed Against a physical and high pressing Bolton side who came out of the traps and knew what they were trying to do. Suspect we'll look back at this as a good result.

Agree with nearly all of that. I personally thought Lafferty had a number of fouls and mispasses. I like him, but tonight I thought he was a bit average.

Also, it was Basham's 150th overall appearance for us 5 games ago – the 150 landmark is for his next start for us. Which might not be Saturday – tough call for Wilder given CCV's solid performance.

I hope Brooks cuts the theatrical dives out of his game now, or at the very least works on them being a little more convincing. He again looked positive when he came on.

Brilliant win but... we may have to look at someone other than Billy, especially away from home.

As I mentioned, I'd kind of forgotten Lafferty was playing as I could think of anything that stood out. Think he will always do a job and knows how the system works and wont let us down. But I think enda has the upper hand in the lb battle (much tighter between freeman and baldock.)

CCV didn't put a foot wrong really. Little hesitant with a few headers first 15 mins of so but grew into the game. Looks a very bright prospects agree basham mught stuggle to win his place back immediately and might need to be patient.

Brooks looked positive as always. Don't nessecaily like it but maybe we do need to be cuter in winning fouls - lots of other teams do it.

Brooks was more involved than mentioned here. Some great hold up play and really helped us get up the pitch and run down the clock on quite a few occasions.
This .

Brooks was tremendous when he came on.

Brilliant win but... we may have to look at someone other than Billy, especially away from home.

Billy's been class this season mate, top scorer by some distance and the likest to score in most matches. He's more likely to excel alongside the faster Donaldson at this level. Last season Billy and Leon's lack of pace wasn't a problem because we had so much quality we didn't need pace. But Donaldson is a really good fit for Billy and Leon will prove a handful off the bench.

Brooks makes us a much bigger attacking threat. He didn't have too many opportunities to create but when he got the ball on one counter attack he skillfully skipped inside his opponent and slid a perfect pass through to Fleck - if it was to a right footed player it might have produced a goal. It didn't surprise me one bit, he seems capable of consistently producing things like this. He's not just a tricky dribbler, he has the intelligence and vision to go to the very top.
Generally, he did well, he didn't give the ball away and made sensible decisions.

Carter-Vickers looks good and could easily be a regular. Very strong, composed, decent on the ball and contributed to attacks in the first half. Could've even scored twice on his debut, like Donaldson 4 days ago, but hit one straight at the keeper! Two goals for him on his debut and two goals from set pieces against Bolton would've been very funny indeed.

The team performance wasn't great, we lost the ball too often, were second to the ball too often and our strikers didn't make it hard enough for their centre halves to clear the ball, nor did they get hold of the ball when they had the chance to. This saw Bolton have more possession than they probably should. Clarke might not have been 100% but he was a bit frustrating tonight. What we did do well though was defend and battle, we gave away too many free kicks but never really looked like conceding. We dealt well with their long balls, set pieces and occasional attacks down the right. Shame Lundstram couldn't have scored that sitter at the end for a lovely 2-0 win. He looked decent again, he's showing us what Wilder saw in him.

No worries about the performance though. It was a great win, and it's a great bonus to have 6 points from these two games. It was an awkward game and the manner of the win proves what spirit and determination this squad has - we could've eased off after winning at Sunderland, but that desire and even expectation to win was clear to see. Ultimately we've made several changes to our team and won an away game in the Championship, that is very pleasing indeed.

Bolton were big and rough, they knocked us off the ball time and time again, were quicker to get to it, and went down easily for free kicks around our box (way too many as the clock was counting down). I agree with most of the comments above, but thought we were a bit sloppy at times and gave balls away too easily. As has been said, CCV looked good, took his goal well and looked to be getting a second but blasted it straight at the keeper.

Lundstam - not surprised he came on, we were getting bullied and needed some additional muscle on the pitch, if only he had elected a low drive, instead of trying to chip the keeper at the end.

Washing Machine - tried it on a few times and it got rough towards the end when he tried to take JOC out, and then tried to drag him up off the floor.

Clarke did well to try and be target man and hold up the ball, Brooks played well when he came on.

Baldock looked lively enough, first real chance I have had to look at him.

3 scrappy points, and I will take that every single week from now to the end of the season.

UTB.

Pretty much agree with most of the previous comments. Thought Clarke did ten times more work than Sharp tonight though. I mean, Sharp may not as well have been playing. He really wasn't in the game at all.

Much as love Bashes whole hearted commitment I am sure CCV might gives us another dimension in the opponents box a la Harry Maguire who had a similar goal scoring record as Jack Charlton..
A big strong monstrous fecker like CCV is an absolute bastard at set pieces.
I am sure CW has recognised this.
Davie gets off his Bergen Blade tactical soapbox.

Great points but a frustrating watch. Lot of changes though, CCV looks immense.

Someone needs to tell Leon he's allowed to have a shot, can't fault the bloke for effort and the amount of abuse he withstood from Bolton, but he gets into situations where there's no-one up but he's a striker in front of goal and ends up passing backwards. He's got a good shot on him, don't know if he's lacking confidence or its something the team are told since we generally haven't had many long shots this season, anyway, 3 points, clean sheet, back at the Lane on Saturday. Can't wait.

He's driving me nuts at the minute. He's doing so much good work for the team, holding it up and bringing people into play. But then he'll produce an air shot or a stupid misplaced pass from a couple of yards. And as you rightly say - just pull the fucking trigger once in a while!

I'm really rooting for him to succeed, I don't dislike him and you cannot fault the effort, but at times he's just SO League One.
