Seeing as a lot of the big clubs are in the championship.

Just for fun, keep your hair on, not going to happen, blah blah.......

What would a super league look like.
There are a bigger range of big clubs outside the Premiership.

Only 9 Premiership teams make my list.

Arsenal.
Man U.
Man City.
Liverpool.
Everton.
Chelsea.
Spurs.
Newcastle.
West Ham.

11 from outside

Sheffield United.
Sheffield Wednesday.
Cardiff.
Leeds.
Wolves.
Forest.
Derby.
Aston Villa.
Birmingham
Sunderland.
Portsmouth / Middlesborough / Charlton / Blackburn.

Now that would be a league.

Based on the average ranking of the 4 criteria that people usually look at (stadium, historical attendances, trophies won and years spent in the top flight) the top 20 looks like this:

Manchester United
Liverpool
Arsenal
Aston Villa
Everton
Manchester City
Chelsea
Newcastle United
Tottenham Hotspur
Sunderland
Sheffield Wednesday
West Ham United
Leeds United
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Sheffield United
Blackburn Rovers
West Bromwich Albion
Nottingham Forest
Derby County
Leicester City

That's my take on it anyway, but you could ask 100 different people and get a hundred different answers to this age old question.

For me you could just tell the top 9 clubs on the list, to sod off to some European super league and we can then get out game back.

Trophies won? What the fuck are we doing in it. We've won nowt for 92 years.

I struggled at 17 though so few got added like Birmingham & Middlesborough for rivalry sake. & I'm a guy who loves watching the Huddersfield & Burnley's in the premier league

Arsenal
Aston Villa
Birmingham
Chelsea
Derby
Everton
Leeds
Leicester
Liverpool
Man Utd
Man City
Middlesborough
Newcastle
Nottingham Forest
Sheff Utd
Sheff Wed
Spurs
Sunderland
West Ham
West Brom

And yet we're still 17th in terms of trophies won.

Now if you base your big clubs on recent times, we're not gona be 15th are we.

How come Old Etonians, Wanderers and Royal Engineers are not on the all-time list?

;)

Manchester Utd
Liverpool
Arsenal
Manchester City
Tottenham
Everton
Chelsea
Newcastle
Aston Villa
Leeds
West Ham
Nottingham Forest
Derby
Leicester
Sunderland
Sheffield United
Sheffield Wednesday
Wolves
West Brom
Southampton

Haha because existence is also one of my criteria for a big club (admittedly I didn't specify that one).

Anyway, they might be, they don't score particularly high in the other areas and I only showed you the top 20. ;)

A Sky Super league would consist of the 20 (or whatever number they chose) best supported teams in UK so Celtic and Rangers would be in it too.

Just as long as we're in it

If it were to start tomoro, I would say these 20 would make the cut..

  1. Arsenal
  2. Bournemouth
  3. Brighton
  4. Burnley
  5. Chelsea
  6. Crystal Palace
  7. Everton
  8. Huddersfield
  9. Leicester
  10. Liverpool
  11. Man Utd
  12. Man City
  13. Newcastle
  14. Southampton
  15. Stoke
  16. Swansea
  17. Tottenham
  18. Watford
  19. West Brom
  20. West Ham

If the Premier League were to create something like this, they would probably look to cut the number of teams down to 18 or even 16.

More opportunities to play to abroad in pre/post season tours and maybe do what the NFL are doing with league games abroad.

What about years in the top flight? They've been there about 35 of the last 40.

I'm sure they have but why would it start in 1977? The website I used starts from the beginning of the football league in 1888.

Fair fucks. Just interesting that in my lifetime they've been a mainstay, I didn't know they'd never been in the top flight til then. I also find it amusing that dirty Leeds are outside the top 20.

.... and for the good of the England team of course!

If it was a true NFL franchise system then they would go where there was:

a) a market

b) a local council willing to pump money in to get said franchise - so none in Sheffield then!

for a bit of fun I'd go:

Manchester Red Devils
Manchester Arabians
London Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspurs
Chelsea Superkings
Everton Toffeemen
Liverpool Scousers
Aston Villains
Leeds Tykes
East London Hammerheads
Nottingham Sheriffs
Derby Rams
Sheffield United (original no change needed)
South Barnsley Cunts
Newcastle Sport Direct Dot Coms
Leicester Foxes
Southampton Saints
Bristol Robins (for south west representation - you could go Cardiff Taffs)
Wolverhampton Wolves
West Bromwich Yamyams
