In normal circumstances I'd agree
However I've seen with my own eyes that for 6 months way back in 2012 he's the most impressive striker we've had since Brian Deane, never seen anyone be so head and shoulders above the standard of the league he was playing in (admittedly it was only league 1 though).
Also Wilder has an excellent record on signings.
Assume he saw Ched as a low cost calculated risk with the contract/ bonuses weighted in the clubs favour.
We aren't reliant on Ched and there's a low expectation, everything to gain and very little to lose.
In my book that's a shrewd gamble.
He scored a lot of goals in the third division after being garbage for two seasons in the league above. We've had strikers who've done more at a higher level since Deane than Evans.
Aside from arguments about the morality of signing him, it was always a risk financially and playing wise.
Maybe he'll come good but he won't be on peanuts and we did pay a reasonable fee for him.
