I couldn't believe my eyes reading through some of the threads this morning. We seem to be an incredibly negative bunch.

This season we have got off to a great start. Better than everyone expected and playing some entertaining football to boot.
The last time we were in this division we frittered the last of our money on expensive loan signings whilst enduring turgid football from players who in the main couldn't have cared less if we stayed up or not.

There have been a number of seasons where we didn't sing one player's name such was the general malaise around the club.

Think back to those times and realise how much more enjoyable match day is now.

We won't go down this season. We have a manager and a group of players who will fight for every point and you never know might surprise us. We will get beaten some weekends. We might take a drubbing or two.

We should still be extremely happy. There are 24 clubs in this division and we can name 10 where the smell isn't right at the moment and the fans are worried. There's one not far from us where the fans would love to be watching our football every week
.

We haven't got Deane and Agana up front but we have a club worth supporting. That makes me happy.

Why can't you be both happy and discuss what's a bit of a disappointing end to the transfer window?

Its called a discussion forum , let people air there views. Chris Wilder himself is not very happy with the lack of players we have brought in. It has been a mixed transfer window end. Nothing to get too worked up about, but at the same time, some disappointing things to it. People are allowed to bring them up

do we need pace as 99% of the time we get down the wings then fanny around playing it back side ways then back to the wings it works as we are sitting in 5th place

I think the idea of having pace is that we'd get down the other end quicker, so wouldn't need to fanny around passing it around the box because they'd have fewer defenders back waiting for us. It does seem sometimes like we are facing such numbers in defence that it turns into a bit of a game of cat and mouse, with us looking for that perfect killer pass to open up the vast ranks of defenders. But, we really can't complain - the football is actually very good - it's just that a bit more zip in the attack would be to our advantage. Which is why I think we need to find a way into the team for players like Brooks - and also Thomas perhaps?

I'm in this camp, I'm extremely happy with how we've started the season but slightly disappointed with the transfer deadline signings. I'm not moaning about it and trust that Wilder isn't going to be drawn into any panic buys that we've seen in previous seasons. Sounds like he was disappointed not to bring in the proposed loan signings too.

I still think we'll have enough to attain a respectable position with the squad we've got and I'll be well pleased with that.

On a positive note, apart from Brayford, who we knew was on his way out, he haven't lost anyone either.

If the response on here last night and today is that for a 'bit of a slightly disappointing end to the transfer window' do you not concede and agree with the OP that it's been totally over the top?

Reading on here this morning I thought I'd logged into the Brentford forum by mistake. Now that's a very disappointing window!

I think this perception that we don't have any pace is a fallacy.

Can't agree with you there mate ...... other than Brooks & Baldock , we are quite a pedestrian team.

It is without a doubt (imho) our biggest weakness and will hold us back in this Division ...... it was bad enough in the last one.

We've had since May to address it and have fallen short in our attempts .......

THAT .... is disappointing, even though we are doing reasonably well so far.

UTB & FTP

I didn't realise it wasn't possible to be impressed by the team's overall performance whilst still being unimpressed with the business we've done before the close of the window.

This ^^^^

It's not the worst window we've seen but it's disappointing that we couldn't get other deals over the line. As usual. Take out the angst and despair comments from the anti McCabists and sackcloth wearers and it seems there's a general feeling of being underwhelmed. The more even minded will look at the "spending power in the championship" comment and concede it's not happened, but without wetting themselves. For me that comment was pretty unequivocal, unlike others that were open to interpretation, and will be difficult to explain away, regardless of agents, luck or anything else.

I posted a couple of weeks ago the extra income this year plus sell on fees will likely balance the budget and suggest that there has been little if any further investment since the start of the season. Which is worrying. We know have to squabble until January to see if the words were spoken with forked tongue. Hopefully not.

Gordon Brown would call it prudent.

But he was a bit of an arse!

Yep. that's pretty much how I see it. It's hard to retain faith in McCabe when he seeks to elevate expectation when STs are up for renewal with talk of special signings, top half budget etc. only for the same old disappointments to rear their head come 1st September. All that said, I believe that Wilder and the players he has will continue to over-achieve and keep us away from a relegation battle.

United fans moaning? Well knock me down with a feather. They're never happy unless they're fucking moaning.

I don't buy this you are either a moaned or a clapper argument. I don't know one Blade who isn't extremely happy with Wilder and how the team has performed, everyone agrees on that full stop.

Where the difference of opinion lies is the view of the board and McCabe. For me he's overseen a decade of decline partly redeemed by appointing Wilder. To others he's the messiah and we'd be in the northern premier league without him.

What's frustrating this transfer window is that despite being told for years that when bigger clubs come knocking you cant do anything about it we havent been able to sign players from Southend and Fleetwood.

I actually think the business we did yesterday was pretty good. A highly rated, young centre back who certainly looks the part and Donaldson who I have always rated. Could have been better, could have been worse but I really hope that Wilder is still happy with the boards backing as he's the key to our progress at the minute.

We're all disappointed but look at the environment, every Championship proven striker is trading for ridiculous money Nahki Wells scored 1 in 5 in the Championship and just went for £5m! Assombalonga £15m and we've all laughed about the 10 million pound striker who won't take a penalty! Some people won't be happy until our owners bankrupt themselves chasing a dream which, given about another dozen clubs are having a serious crack at it and there can be only 3 winners, there are going to be a lot of sad faces at the end of the season. We did 'shit or bust' years ago and we ended up with bust, I prefer sensible progression and not getting bent over. I'd love to visit a couple of the posters on this site to sell them double glazing or is it that they are sensible when they come to spend their own money and only enjoy chucking other people's cash around?

I think you're over reacting.
You think they're over reacting.

I think the response is about as expected for a football forum given 'investment' quotes and 4-5 targets wanted by Wilder.

But - just like Chris Wilder I suppose - saved us from financial meltdown and oblivion caused by others (unless you read the Daily Mail, believe in or are a fan/creator of fake news).

Wilder himself was 'moaning' he didn't get all his targets, according to him we are 3 players short of what HE wanted.
Yes, and he also made it very clear that it wasn't the club he had a fault with.

I think we all get the frustration of Wilder, which seems to be aimed at agents but that might not be the whole story. As for the 'investment' quotes, there's no ambiguity to it but it did come from the mouth of McCabe, notorious like many fans of this club for spouting some right bollocks at times. I'd put a microphone exclusion zone around him, ban the press from going near him and lock him in his office in Belgium when ever a fans forum night happens. But it's his money and he likes to do the publicity thing, however the scary thing is I think he thinks he's good at it.

And the response is still OTT. :)
