Caolan Lavery

Think Lavery is harshly treated. Has value in this squad just not as a starter, could be used as an impact, he has a bit of pace and is quite a big lad.

Also, let's be fair, how would you feel if a player who has done nothing this season is treated like a hero? Lavery was part of our title winning squad and Evans, who has contributed f*** all (oh no, sorry, he had a shot at Cardiff ) gets legend status. I'd be confused and frustrated by the whole thing, and I'm sure Lavery must be wondering what it's all about too.

'Evans did more in 10 minutes' - sorry, totally disagree. I still believe people are seeing what they want to see with Evans. If he was another random signing, I guarantee everyone would saying 'what does he offer? Looks like a dud' but it's Evans so he gets a free pass.

Would keep Lavery as an impact, think he can change a game more than any of our other options, but we still need a striker to add competition at the top end of the pitch.
Thought Evans offered a lot yesterday...took one ball down beautifully, worked hard, won quite a few headers and put himself about...he needs the ball to break for him in the box...

He hardly had a touch in the first half despite us dominating, and actually it was his miscontrol with led to the Derby playing whacking it in his own net. Wasn't great overall, I think Brooks and Sharp upfront is the future. But if we're going to get another striker in I think we have to ship one or two out (Lavery, Hanson)
Ship them both out...

One of the main differences between League 1 and the Championship is how much time you get on the ball, a few of our players yesterday were giving away possession because Derby were anticipating things slightly faster and Lavery was one in particular who just doesn't seem up to the pace of the Championship, it's not his physical pace that's lacking, but the mental sharpness to start at this level simply isn't there. Some of that is definitely down to not playing every week, so a loan where he's playing every week might help, but it was always going to happen that some of last season's squad wouldn't cut it at the higher level. Too soon to write him off completely, but with Evans also not up to the task of starting, we really need to being in someone better than them both.

So if what you're saying is true Ginger he needs to start for another team in the same league.
This begs the question if he's good enough /or not for them then surely the same applies with us.
We'd be playing the same calibre of opposition.

Yes more like the old Evans still have To be patient with him,but yesterday he was a lot sharper and stronger.

So you didn't notice him winning almost every ball in the air.

I noticed him not knowing where to run to whenever we were in possession.

He did win 3 or 4 headers yes but nothing came of them and Hanson can do that better, I'm expecting more from Evans. Hopefully he improves, this is the first time I've seen him since he has returned and numerous people have told me this has been his best league appearance so far, hope he gets a lot better as based on yesterday he looked worse than he did for us in the Championship previously.

He knew exactly what he was doing. In case you didn't notice every time Blackman kicked the ball he sliced it wide right. Evans won many and made a real nuisance of himself at a time we were under the cosh.
On top of that,if Samir had looked up when cutting in from the right he would have seen a simple ball to Evans weas a tap in.
Evans was always in the right place at the right time on Saturday in very difficult circumstances.

We just saw things differently. There were a couple of times when we broke away running forward where Evans didn't have a clue where to run to give the man in possession an option, I would expect a striker to know exactly where to run to make him self available.

Hopefully he improves in time, but he was the poorest of our 3 strikers that played yesterday IMO.

Obviously Sharp was best.
To say Lavery was better in any way than Evans defies belief.
Explain what he did to earn coming second.

If Fleck would've squared it for Evans he would've scored and his confidence will only grow when he gets that first league goal.

I didn't think Lavery was as bad as some make out, his end product was a bit to be desired but I thought his build up play and movement was pretty good. It just goes to show how opinions can differ.

We do need another striker though.

Helped press their back line well and put them under pressure, was involved in the second goal, his presence in the box leading to them scoring the own goal, held the ball up fairly well, won his fair share of headers.

Just a difference of opinion, but if you feel that 'defies belief' then fair enough.

He won one header in the air mate. All he was doing was leaning into the CH like Billy does. I said this to the guy sat next to me because we were confused as to why he was not trying to jump and win a header

Saw him cleanly win plenty mate.

Here's an idea...

Why don't you fuck off with your anti Evans agenda and give an innocent man a chance to win his life back?

There is absolutely no need to bring Evans into this discussion. It's about Lavery. A bloke who promises a bit but has done nothing to convince anyone so far.

Evans has been shite so far, with yesterday being a little bit better. But he's got a bloody good reason why he's like that hasn't he? And, unlike Lavery, he has proven himself at this level and higher.

If you don't like Evans morals that's one thing. And a lot would agree with you on that. But don't bring that in to a football discussion about someone else.

1. Never mentioned his morals, where have you got that from?
2. It is about Evans, as the OP explicitly states it
3. Chill out, it's a forum for discussion
4. 'Hes proven it at this level and higher' - well, I think most would completely disagree with that statement! Where's your evidence for that??

The OP,ie me dosent state anything of the kind. This thread is about Lavery first and foremost. I mentioned Evans at the end purely as I thought he contributed more in a much shorter period of time and one when, unlike the first half when we ran riot Lavery contributed nothing.
I think Ched would have had a good show in that first half.

I hope Caolan first recovers quickly from his injuries and next time he gets a chance has a stormer.
Clarke is back soon so Sunderland wil be his last chance for a few weeks.

If I was Lavvers,I would be going all out to claim the 2nd goal, I have given it him in my scrapbook

I don't think it's unreasonable that people are prepared to give Evans the benefit of the doubt, after all he did score 35 goals and single handedly got Utd to the playoff final, before being banged up.

Lavery doesn't have that on his CV, whilst he is an honest hard working player, he's too slow in possession and doesn't appear to possess a strikers instinct.

I'm sure he's a nice lad, but I think his times almost up at BDTBL :(

To the OP - Not sure he could have played on to be fair!!!

Looks like he's been in hospital and could be out for a while

Eye eye, what's all this then.. ......

This thread has reminded me that we haven't heard from the OP in ages. Does anyone know if he is OK?
