I've seen a bigger influx of Chinese spectators at Bramall Lane in the past couple of years, and with the business and student links that Sheffield currently has with China, it's great for our numbers.

There were some at the Leicester game the other night, decked out in half and half scarves, i.e. half Sheff Utd and half Leicester City. What is the point of these scarves? The occasion to wear them is not likely to be more than twice a season, even if the teams are in the same league. Answering my own question I suppose this kind of merch appeals to the neutrals, like the Chinese?

I think we are doing well to attract Chinese students for the reasons you mention - they've also got money to burn as well. I would like to see them showing more passion for the team though. They never join in the Gleasy Chip Burry song or shout "Come on you Brades!". Takes a lot to get them excited I suspect?

Maybe a bit of casual racism in the stands could get them going?

On the flipside to that, there was a Chinese lad with his girlfriend sat in front of me at the home game against Bury last season.
When we got the last minute winner they both went ballistic. Which surprised me to be honest.
Everyone gets the bug eventually.

Funny you should mention St Pauli, heading across this weekend to watch them, looking forward to it.
Have you been before? Any tips/advice or things to do in the city?
I went a couple of years ago on a stag do. No game on sadly, just a city trip. We did do the tour of the ground though which was pretty good if you can do that on a match day it would be cool. There's a few bars around the ground area that were okay then there is a massive red light district with the expected contents. There was a beach bar, on the river just on the edge of the red light zone that was good.

Couple of years ago there was a Chinese (I think) lad who showed up several games in succession on the front row of the South, sorry I mean New, bugger .... I mean Hualing Stand. He wore the club shop, as they say. Whenever there was any noise from the away end, he would stand up and point at the Bramall Lane, sorry, Redbrik Stand, and shout "YOU SHUT UP !". He kept us royally entertained when the football was shite, and he once frightened a linesman. I miss him.

There are more than one hundred Scandinavian Blades, some of them here:

The next time pommpey moans about why we didn't need the Desso, he ought to take a good hard look at that pitch.

Sounds good, we've already got a trip to the beach bar pencilled in :)

St. Pauli's is bang next to the Reeperbahn, which is where you want to be if your over for a boozy weekend. Plenty of cool bars, but stay out of any sex-related places, pure rip off. Also in the evenings be careful of dark alleys, it's still a bit of a dodgy area. A side street called Hamburgerberg is my favourite for cool little bars. At the weekend the place doesn't really get going till midnight, 11 at the earliest, and will stay open till the early hours.
During the day head down to the harbour front, visit the old Elbe tunnel (green domed building), I wouldn't take a tour on a little boat, as good as it is all the commentary is in German. Veer east and there is the old Speicherstadt, old coffee warehouses, very interesting, there is a Hamburg Dungeon there, along the lines of London Dungeon, but again if you don't speak German probably not a lot of point. Definately worth the fee and the wait if there is a bit of a queue, the model railway, also in the Speicherstadt, next to the Dungeon. Amazing what they've done there, you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it.
Hamburg is incredible for shopping if you have the Mrs along. Mönkebergstrasse is the main one. Start up at the main train station and wander down to the bottom where the impressive Town Hall is (large shopping mall on right at bottom - Europa Passage), wander past the Town Hall to the right where there is a nice arched promenade, around that area are some nice cafes, some on the water, plenty of interesting shops.
Otherwise, there's an old Russian submarine you can go around, I believe it's down by the Fischmarkt these days, which is walking distance from the old Elbtunnel, it's an interesting couple of hours. If the weather's good there's a beach bar there too, (between the two), actually there are several but I think StrandPauli is the best, the one furtherst along.

Cheers mate. Going with a few mates so I think it'll mostly revolve around beer & pubs etc. but we'll certainly go for a stroll at some point. Submarine sounds pretty interesting.

Stop the pretence. You're off to football with a bunch of mates. Submarine my arse, you'll spend ten hours in a titty bar then ten minutes outside a knocking shop whilst your fat mate empties his tank.

Stick to Hamburger Berg as I said, Grosse Freiheit which runs parallel and the Hans Albers Platz across the road. It's been a while since I was out on the Reeperbahn but the Ex-Sparr half way down the Hamburgerberg was always one of my faves. Good Irish bar at the bottom of the Grosse Freiheit and another excellent one called Molly Malones on the Platz which is tiny and always crammed but has brilliant live music, in fact keep your ear out for music and just follow it. Avoid anywhere too quiet that looks too much like a prossy hang-out because you'll be approached by their pimps who may not let you go before you've purchased something, though that usually only applies to the quieter days, not weekends. Don't get talked into anywhere by someone on the street offering free drinks and lesbian muff diving, the places are dumps, empty and a total rip off. You'll be lucky to get out without having to empty your wallets.
If you want to go somewhere like that, I mean, if your mates make you go somewhere like that, make sure you go somewhere bright and on a main street. I would suggest the Dollhouse at the bottom of the Grosse Freiheit.
If you need a nightclub, even though the bars will see you through to daylight, I recommend the Molotov on the Reeperbahn for a grungy, indie / punk type feel. If you want a more mainstream club the Grosse Freiheit 36 is a safe bet for a good night, although there are several on the Reeperbahn.
Don't forget - after the match proper Pauli fans will head over to the Jolly Roger, which has a great atmosphere for an after-match beer and is a good starting point for the night. Also, you can live off kebabs on and around the Reeperbahn, made from fresh stuff and with bread that's actually edible.
Have a great weekend.

im english but i do regularly follow feyenoords results (before they won the title this year)

Before they won the title ???

What happened ?
Did the Sheffield United percentage of you reject the success

Apart from Jim Phipps there is also the American student who's coming to Sheffield to study who says he's going to become a Blade but I can't remember his name.

and Swiss, he never misses the chance to get a half and half, lives for it.

...St Pauli (purely because they are cool!!). Has anyone seen their players tunnel? its amazing.

St Pauli's tunnel has got to be one of the cringiest things in football. (And that includes tango man)

It's as if they set up a focus group to identify clichéd graffiti - looks like Bart Simpson's bedroom wall.
