Thanks for that Hague. Startling stats on the numbers at each club. Wilder will move very slowly into European recruitment I guess, very slowly.

He will vet any player for cultural similarities and I'd also guess the first ones will need to have played English football for some time.

I can't believe I've just read that last paragraph. Or maybe I've time travelled and emerged at the height of colonisation with the odd servant thrown in.

In 2006, as part of the transformation of German coaching under Klinsmann, they started looking for players with 'English' hearts. German centre backs throughout all three divisions are now generally hard but skilful players. I genuinely think CW could do no worse than look here. It worked for Wagner at Huddersfield.

Don't know wether I think a purely British squad is a good thing - particularly with the price of British players these days.

Leicester picked up Mahrez for something like 300k and Kante for about 5m. That's the price of an average championship player these days like che adams.

Won't always work but if we are looking for value for money we'd be best off looking abroad and expanding our horizons.

Ideally you would have an all British squad, for the reasons Wilder highlights in the article. But surely value has to come first. It could take 3-4 years to build an all British squad of the same quality and cost as a squad including foreign players that only takes 1-2 years to build.

'old-school Shirecliffe training complex yesterday'
I thought this was bit condescending towards us, as far as I'm aware our training complex pretty good is it not?

That's cos they'd ripped them out, time and time again in penalty shoot outs :o

The pitches are superb but there's something about the building that's still pretty old-school, in a good way! Even still has the bell from the old Forgemasters

You've ... erm ... obviously spoke to him about this. I mean, you speak with managers about a lot of things ...

I suspect that the bulk of this article was written while researching the infrastructure of United - I smiled at the description of the "old school Shirecliffe training complex", what next, personalised whippets and bespoke cloth caps? Not a bad article, just one that relied too heavily on other people's descriptions to give it the accuracy it cried out for.

On the upside, nice to see the club mentioned in a fairly favourable light, and that Wilder is doing things his way and enabling the Blades to progress.

We're the only team in the top two divisions with a purely British and Irish squad. Even Burton have a couple of foreigners. Wilder open to "broadening our horizons" apparently, and there's also a nice story about him and Big Sam.
Was it last week or the week before when McCabe was under attack on here for us not having a European scouting network. This won't help that will it :D.

We should have at least three experienced senior European scouts on £150k per year discovering gems for us. Their wages costs, massive travel bills and admin support, will of course be covered by the money tree and so will not count when the accountants on here tot up our 'spending'.

That ethos is partly why, despite the “better value” on offer, Wilder has largely resisted the lure of players from overseas.

“We’re based on an English mentality but that doesn’t mean we’ll close the doors on other players,” he insists. “We are looking to expand our recruitment, but the most critical thing is that players fit into our culture.”

It's called collecting information from numerous sources. Have a read you two, open your minds.

Far too cosmopolitan for us

All these Jonny Foreigners with their skill, craft, touch, timing, natural balance and inability to handle vindaloos and greasy chip buttys and Lager

Naah, not for me

Who are you referring to? The numerous Blades who've said we need to expand our scouting network into Europe or Chris Wilder who's said we're going to expand our scouting network into Europe?

Um. You've quoted three of us.

Anyway. What 'sources', please? Now you have really pricked my interest as to where you are mining these little nuggets of brilliance (like the transfer budget) and now your affirmation that managers vet players on cultural similarities.

"Okay Lionel. You're the most revered attacking midfielder the modern era has seen. Your touch, deftness and sheer speed of thought translates into footballing artistry the likes of which we haven't seen and fuck me, you have goals written all over you. By jove, we could even beat Real Madrid home and away and have domination of European Tournaments sewn up for as long as you can remain fit, and I have a spot for you in the team. But, you're a crossbreed dago, pasta-muncher, and you can't bullfight to save your life. My players can all sing Y Viva Espana, and eat paella until it comes out of their ears. You'll not fit in, so fuck off."

Is this kinda what happens? If so, it's no wonder Eniola Aluko feels so put out with the tasteless, tactless racism from her England boss. She just don't understand football and don't get the bants, eh?

pommpey, you can't have many toes left, as you seem to shoot yourself in the foot with a sickening regularity.

Did you hear that bitch on R5L last night with her 'new' evidence. She wouldn't name the 'very upset' mixed race girl and the investigation reviewed a video of the meeting but never heard the complaint about being arrested. She was dropped because of 'victimisation/racism' and in no way because she was a right old trout who was no longer good enough.

Pommpey. You just don't read the posts do you? Read the article Bush Blade provided where the manager's quotes are documented. That's why it's there but you have to read it:tumbleweed:

Apparently she was left out of the squad (dropped) because she was 'withdrawn' at recent squad meetings
Just after she'd submitted her reply to a 'culture review' that the FA asked her to take part in as she was an 'iconic England player'

"Wilder’s ambitions stretch beyond the second tier of English football. The 49-year-old is highly regarded within the game. That much became evident in May when Sam Allardyce recommended Wilder to Steve Parish, the Crystal Palace chairman, after he resigned as manager.

Wilder is too self-deprecating to accept Allardyce’s praise. “He said that because I was sat next to him, topping up his wine at an LMA [League Managers Association] do,” Wilder said with a chuckle."

Personally I wouldn't want our Chris sat anywhere near that bent get. After all the 'BBC trouble' when he was accused of bungs and dodgy dealings with his son as an agent, we then get the backhanders at England despite a fantastic salary.

I only near to heart that Rednapp was sat on CW's other side at the dinner and my day of misery will be complete.

Wilder and BBC trouble in the same sentence ;)

Is that a genuine post or are you trying to be ironic?

Coco ... the 1950s rang. They want their societal norms and attitudes back.

Firstly, it isn't quite on to align Eni Aluko, successful female British woman of Nigerian ancestry who has carved out a pretty well documented club and international career at football (and is a bar qualified lawyer) - and her family (one of whom is a Fulham and Nigerian international) - with the Ebola virus. It's similar to saying 'all gay people give you HIV/AIDS'. Hope that clears things up.

Secondly ... 'bitch'? Why? Because she complained? When would she not be a 'bitch' in your eyes? And 'right old trout'? Yeah. The attacking right wing might have benefited from this 'right old trout' in England's last pedestrian capitulation to the Dutch. I bet you'd have your hands full with 90 minutes against her.

I can remember climbing up there as a lad.
Was born on Musgrave Crescent and ahr garden led up to the playing fields. Was a bit of hill for little legs though.
