Leon's "Goal"

No it wasn't! A Blade has posted the free kick in slow motion on instagram, Billy is well onside when the ball is rolled to Fleck. Understandable that the lino wrongly gave him off though.

You 're really completely wrong here Nord. When the free kick was back- heeled Billy was onside - no problem - and the ball is live. Fleck then strikes the live ball at which point Billy has already run into an offside position. If Flecky scores, Billy hasn't interfered with play and the goal stands. However, the ball rebounds and Billy follows in and scores - all the same phase of play as when Flecky took the shot - so he was offside.

Leon's "goal", however, is far from being clear.

3 points more than last year, so we are on target for 103!!!

The Magic is Back

I'm assuming Bladezz is on about the Leon goal, which was definitely questionable but he shouldn't have been lazy getting back onside in the first place.
But if he was always onside, which he was, then the 'laziness' was actually picking up an unmarked position from where he scored.

My contribution: we sit about level with 18 yard line, Kop end of JSS, back row. As the ball was dropping I anticipated a looped cross back into the box and glanced up to see if anyone was going to be offside. Sharp was ahead of his marker in an offside position, but his marker was deeper than Clarke and played Clarke onside. Once the ball was played in I immediately looked up at the lino who saw Clarke ahead of the last defender as he received the ball and raised his flag. I was already on my feet complaining at the decision before the ball hit the back of the net or the ref had blown his whistle.

Not offside.

It wasn't offside

Agree, I sit south stand, near top, my seat was bang in line with it, assistant ref got it wrong but didn't lose us 2/3 points in the end is the main thing. Anybody in doubt trust me it was on!

Not if you watch the slow mo instagram video, he isn't.

Lazy? Are you serious?
You appear to have serious hang ups about Clarke.
Each to their own I guess...
Watch it back, he is clearly slow in getting back which is either lazy or a lack of anticipation, either way it shouldn't happen. I have no hang ups or whatever it is you want to call it, I say it how I see it. You've already said Clarke is a favourite of yours so I can understand why you're sticking up for him.

Oh, and watch Clarkes' first half performance again, it wasn't as good as you and many others make out, anyone would think we've re-signed Hulse. :)

You must've been the only one complaining because there was literally no one on the south stand complaining about it.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree as I personally don't think Clarke anticipated anything coming his way, hence he was slow getting back. Oh well!

Oh I think we'll leave it there mate. You saw what you saw and I saw what I did. Our interpretations are different.
Clarke is a favourite of mine as I think he's a bloody good player, and have done way way before he joined us.
Last Saturday I and quite a few others thought he was particularly good, you didn't, I can live with that :-)

I just don't think he played well the whole match like some, I thought he played well in the second half not so good in the first, I don't go over the top with a performance like that. Basham, Carruthers, JOC, Stevens, Coutts and Blackman were all better imho but Clarke got a lot of people's votes? Just goes to show how opinions can differ. :)

I enjoyed his performance too; I thought he was what Brentford were missing - an old pro.

You need to shout louder! :)

I still feel a bit guilty about it. There was a little lad with his dad in front of me and he probably didn't appreciate some of the words I used. Left early. Some guy behind me with a big booming voice kept inviting "Lino" to visit him in the stand after that decision.

Nothing's changed on the Werthers stand then? :)

Billy's was definitely just offside. Foxy posted a brilliant video on another thread and you can see from the frame below that Billy has just gone too early over on the right, while Bash has wiped out the end of the wall!

Now unfortunately taken down due to a DCMA request and cease and desist from the EFL.

Welcome back to the Championship.

My last season ticket was on the Kop many years ago. Since then I have been in a box above JSS and then now and again back to the Kop and the Westfield. I have to admit that, looking around in my new home, I felt relatively youthful compared to the other inhabitants and I'm two years from retirement. Is the South Stand where old Blades go to die?:eek:

What did you think to Sharp's performance?

Leon was outstanding. His work rate matched that of the legendary Runaround but with so much more purpose and quality. He had a great game.

Billy got the winner but didn't do anything else really. He did however work very hard and you couldn't fault his effort for 90 minutes and what else do you want from your strikers other than the winning goal?

And Done has gone now so there really is no need.

Just for the purpose of this very forum, your standards must've dropped remarkably if you think that was outstanding from Clarke. I'd be astounded if Clarke himself didn't think he could play better than that first half on Saturday and also the second half actually.

It should've said for the time he was on the pitch, not the full 90 mins before some twat pulls up on it. :)

Don't worry, it went over my head. Bent down cos some twat had chucked Werthers on the floor.

Ha! He was the worst thing about that match for me.

And... Everybody was complaining hence the huge celebration, so onside nobody sat near us even felt the need to look at fat lad with a flag as it happened.

Ref says offside, only veiw that counts.

Stop beating yersen up.

Not entirely, GB. The 'referee's assistant' who flagged for both was plainly overweight and was nowhere near the line of play. He put his flag up purely becuase Brentford appealed. And this is what pisses me off about goal-line technology. The question of 'did the ball cross the line?' affects an infinitesimally small number of games. Dodgy offside calls are far more common and are made even worse when it's apparent that some refs. tell their assistants that they're in charge.

But it's pointless debating hairline decisions. For Billy's goal, it's obvious that Brentford ignored the refs' spray and stood no more than 8 yards from the ball at the free kick.

Was anyone on this forum at Pompey in 98 when one of our fans hit a linesman? Does anyone know the bloke? Not sure I can remember what that was all about or what happened to him.
