In all the championship madness I've forgotten about the Cup, what are your hopes for this season? Id personally like a good run to supplement what I predict to be a steady season, the league is of course the priority.

The cup run for us is going to be the players that aren't playing so much so people like Lundtsram / Lavery etc will all get an opportunity to stake a claim for a first team spot.

As team spirit and the togetherness we have is probably going to be our best strength we might go quite far into one of the Cups, it would be nice although I'm not demanding it. First season back at this level so that has to be our first priority.

If we do go far though the prize money earned may provide CW extra money to spend next summer.

I'd love me a cup run mesen. I'd absolutely fucking love it if we med a final for once!
What about a play off final instead though? The opportunity to bring PL football back to the Lane or the chance of a major trophy for the first time in about 100 years? I'm not sure which one i'd take if it was a choice of one or the other. I know we'd have more of a chance of winning a play off final (lol) than an fa cup one given the likelihood of facing a top 4 PL team but just the occasion alone would be worth it i reckon. One thing's for sure i know which one i'd rather lose.

I wouldn't be surprised if th cup runs are treated according to where we are in the league.

If we are looking competitive near the top 6, I could see us sacrificing the cup to a degree. Failing that, a good cup run is a good source of potential investment, just look at that lovely grass as evidence:D

I'd go for winning the cup every time. We'll get back to the Premiership one day for certain but winning the cup is for ever and I want to see us win something in my lifetime.
Too many good friends have died without seeing us win anything of note.

Reckon if we're comfortable in mid table we'll have a good one. However if we're fighting down the bottom or near the play offs, think it'll be mostly players who haven't played much

A great cup run would be fantastic for the team and fans. A cup final of any type at Wembley would be great.

Absolutely love a cup run. I don't buy all this concentrate on the league business. Football is supposed to be about entertainment and the cup runs provide some brilliant doses of that.

Hope we finally get to see us lift the Checkatrade Trophy in my lifetime

Yep me too. Drove past Chezzie ground yesterday and mumbled to myself "We're NOT going back to this ground ever". Don't mind a cup game and went to the pre-season game - but sorry, nice ground as it is, it's small and sorry again, Chezzie are small. Wife as usual thinks I am bonkers with all things football, but this is how it grabs you.

We should be looking what is above us now - not what we have left.

As for the cup hopes, I would like to think CW wants to win every game but just have a sneaky feeling we let the ckeckatrade go last year and although me and the nipper saw us lose at Bolton in the FA Cup, we didn't have the team to turn them over, so once again we didn't go at it 100%.

Might be the same in the cup this year, although if we pull a reasonable Prem team away in the 3rd round - don't be surprised when the world is watching we turn them over playing our A team.

I'd love us to win a trophy too but the reality is whilst we're a championship club it's probably never going to happen. Realistically we'd have to be a PL side to mount a serious challenge and to be able to genuinely compete in a final against one of the big boys. It's not impossible to get there i know, we've come close several times before but to win it? We're on the up and i believe in this team and manager but we wouldn't stand a chance against the likes of a Chelsea in a major final at this stage. Winning an fa cup is probably about as good as it will ever get for us and i'd be happy with that but until we have Prem stability barring some kind of miracle a cup win is highly unlikely.

I agree with everything you say but if I got a choice between winning the cup or being promoted, either one being guaranteed, I'd take the cup.
As I said, we'll go up at sometime and will also be relegated at some time as well but a cup win is for ever.

Whilst I love a cup run just like everyone else, each year my overriding feeling is let's just concentrate on the League.

Probably just a coincidence but last year we exited both cups early doors and won promotion. In recent years we've done well in the cups, reaching semi's but just missed out on promotion.

For me this year is all about the priority of firstly staying up, then hopefully pushing on from there.

Previous posters are correct when they say a cup is for life and we'll eventually go up anyway. But the sooner we get there and become established, instead of a one-off miraculous against the odds cup final/win, the better.

It could be a relatively common occurrence. Certainly more chance of it happening if we're a decent PL side. Getting to as many semi finals as we have over recent years says to me there is no reason we can't change that to actual finals as a PL side.

I want us to win the FA Cup more than anything, but for me the way to do it is to firstly get to the PL. Concentrate on the league for now, not the cups.

You shouldn't sacrifice cup runs

Bearing in mind we will never ever ever win the League title ever again a cup is our only chance of success

Can't understand it
If we're doing well we should channel all our efforts into promotion
If we're doing bad we should channel them into survival

Good cup runs have almost always resulted in good seasons
