So as pre season draws to a close tonight, Evans has managed to appear for a total of 17 minutes plus injury time. Following on from having only made 6 starts for Chesterfield since January his fitness must be a huge concern going in to the new season.

Many people thought that with a full pre season behind him he could be a good performer next season and an astute signing. Surely though the lack of football he's had is a real concern and he is going to be left playing catch up as we start the season. He already has Sharp, Lavery, Clarke and probably Hanson in front of him in the pecking order so he's going to have a hell of a lot of work to do to get fit and in the side.

He could yet turn out well but at this stage with pre season finished I am left questioning even more now what the point in signing him was.

No point rushing him in and making an injury worse. It's a long season and he will have plenty of time to build his match fitness, playing in the reserves if need be. Ched will play a part in this campaign, not prolific but it's written in the stars for him to make a couple of important cameos and score a few big, big goals.

Concerned?? No.
Disappointed he's not fully fit and ready to go? A little yes.

Hip injury I believe.....not seen a time placed on his recovery by the club. Didn't get taken off with a serious looking injury so hopefully it will either be an impact injury, or a muscle strain.

I'm going for the avoidance of a £400,000 legal claim. ;)

I'm going for about 12 pages for this thread, rather more conservative than most Ched-threads, but they usually have a bit of staying power. So to speak.

But we been due another one for, what is it? minutes?

Let's see once he's fully fit. CW said from the get go he was a slow process. Maybe slower than we thought. It's a gamble but we have plenty of time to see the outcome.

It's disappointing. The one thing he needed was a decent pre season, and he hasn't had one.

At the moment it's looking most likely he'll be a bit part player. Especially now we're likely to sign another striker before he's had a chance to stake his claim. Not having the chance to do so before the end of August could harm his prospects a lot.

I am a little concerned, I can't see him being involved much at all this season, I am not fully convinced by our strikers for this season, apparently I'm not allowed to criticise any of our players but I don't think our strikers will be good enough this season.

I think the Ched factor is clearly losing appeal.
I mean,it was almost 10pm today before we had a new post about him.

As an aside, I like us playing one up front and an attacking, fit, quick midfield, I think it coukd suit our style of play at times this season

I agree. I'm not sure we have enough at the moment, the only unknown one really is Lavery who could make the step up well. Sharp will be decent, but after that it's a big risk with the rest we had.

I assumed Evans was coming in as first choice, otherwise why sign him when we already had 4 strikers in the squad, so with him injured I think we will be light. Thankfully though Wilder has said he wants another striker.

There's nothing more boring than people complaining about others starting threads.

It's looking like Matt Done will make more appearances next season than Evans

We are desperate for another striker.

Evans won't start 5 games and even if he does is he going to have any impact?
Hanson is trash.
Clarke has struggled in the championship before.
Lavery has some talents and pace but not clinical enough.

Leaves Billy... no pressure eh? What if he goes through a bad spell?

Stick Enda upfront by sounds of it.

Lavery was written off as a crock/waste of money/cunt/wage thief because he was struggling with fitness and injuries when we signed him and took a while to get up to speed.

Lavery wasn't here for pre season last year.

Ok if it was January the same principle still applies - you get my drift surely? What's point in rushing him? We're all excited and eager for him to come back but no point everyone getting their knickers in a twist about it. He'll be ready when Wilder says so.

Why is Hanson trash mate? He gets on the end of long balls and usually directs them our way.

I have said this before but our striker situation is a obviously not ideal. Why on earth has CW been talking about getting a striker when we have 6 already ? Clearly he knows the 6 he's got are not up to it in one way or another - and he's backed into a corner by the length of their contracts. If we fail to score enough in August , my hope is that CW can either get shot of some +/or persuade McCabe to pay some off + obtain appropriate replacements before the window shuts.
