Seems most fans don't share our neighbours view that we will struggle to stay up in the new La Liga

'Big Sheffield' and 'Little Sheffield' initially got my goat but I think I quite like it. Maybe swap the 'Big' for 'Massive' though?

I notice the squealing little piggy had to come on and say we'd be nowhere near the top 6. I happen to agree, but good to see him get wound up about it.

You could just picture him roaring all over his iPhone

Allowing for the fact that there is clearly quite a lot of fans promoting their own teams, the fact that the predictions are all over the place probably reflects the fact that it is very open for promotion. Historically it has been difficult to predict and there have always been one or more surprise packages. No one predicting us for relegation. Hopefully that's good but fans are notoriously bad at predicting.

I always feel we will shock a lot of people next season but other teams seem to be even more optimistic than me as I cant see us in the play offs. I would say 11th.

although Wednesday do seem to be like England fans were pre Iceland match at the euros. because they are convinced that we over hyped whipping boys & which will do us great favours in the 1st derby if we can start well in 1st 20 mins or get an early goal. then crowd will do our jobs for us by ripping into the players

Just been getting some views from Brentford in preparation for next week

Bloody likes tart!

I know you're trying to get our juices flowing and I suspect you even put GreasyChipBeattie up to it with his fake 'view from', to make yourself look even better.

Seriously though, you do a cracking job.

Just been getting some views from Brentford in preparation for next week and many of their fans think they'll be top 6 too. Seems everyone thinks they have a chance this year. None of their fans tipped us go down either by the way.
A lot of people in west London fancy Brentford to do well. They've got plenty of investment from their owner and seem to be making steady progress under Smith. It will be a good win if we beat them.

Yeah I said at the end of last season I was thinking of putting a few quid on them next season. Really classy side

Not really watching other teams I base my predictions on:
Where they finished last season
Who they have bought & sold
Their manager, if there has been a change.

I cannot see Villa in the top 6 but it looks like many people are falling for the hype. If pushed I'd say
L**ds
Middlesborough
Norwich
Wednesday
Fulham
Reading

United about 12th

Anyone who 'expects' us to finish above them is deluded. If we finish above them it'll have been a brilliant achievement.

.

yes, that contributor from Bristol or wherever just had a better knowledge of Sheffield than most of you lot!

Did it have a date on that map, Vorpal?

A very interesting fact, that the area was called 'Little Sheffield'. I'd never heard it being called that before.

Perhaps named because of all the 'little mester' cutlery works that were in the area? Of which there are still a large amount of original buildings still standing.

.

On the National Library of Scotland maps, that area is called Little Sheffield on maps from about 1890 to 1948 and probably since too. These strange archaic names often crop up on OS maps.

I think the last time any of their surveyors actually walked round the streets with a theodolite and a tape measure and asked people what they called the area was in about 1840 so the old names stick on the maps.

They do it with lasers and satellites and bar the odd Russian Cosmonaut, there is no one to ask now.

happy with that so long as we do the double over the porcine and fulham beat them 10-0 on aggregate in the play offs :D

We've been in the wilderness for the past six years. Many other 'football fans' don't really know what we are about. There'll be many contributers to that board who were still at junior school the last time we were in the Championship.

I don't wish to predict a final league position but I think we will be the surprise package.

Thanks Roy.
