I would be tempted to take the financial hit of keeping him despite the high wages, he's a better player than Freeman - some might disagree but having seen a lot of both players I think it's clear that Brayford is the better of those two, despite the obvious contribution Freeman made last year which I'm not trying to undersell at all. Brayford also offers a very acceptable option at CB.
He's probably the highest earner at the club, but he won't be on earth shattering wages, he's worth keeping because at his best we have all seen that he's a terrific player.

Brayford and Done have become the invisibles, not playing, never mentioned. Doubt Burton will pay our value for Brayford, Done seemed destined for league one, but why does it take so long to sort out. Kieran Wallace is in the same boat, but playing with the U-23 and is at least visible.
Anyone know if the train with rest.
Promising Horatio Hirst gone back to Oxford on loan playing against our U-23's today.

Intriguing Mexican standoff.

Who blinks first? Wilder or Clough?

Another way of looking at it, Clough has never managed a club and not got Brayford there somehow. Clearly a special bond between player and Manager exists.

Wilder will want rid of the wages and already has brought Baldock in. But it would be galling to United to let him go for free. Take away Beattie and he's probably our record signing especially when you factor in wages.

On the other hand, could Clough let him rot in United's reserves when he did such a good job for Clough last year. He managed to get United to pay 1.5m perhaps he will eventuslly twist their Chairman's arm.

Clough needs an accomplished defender, they lost to AFC Wimbledon last nite 3-0 i believe.

Hopefully the manager is joining my campaign against beardtwats

Use him as a bargaining tool, do a deal with Blackburn or Southend, if we are struggling to land a target use him as a make way to get a deal done, he's hardly a shit player. No point in him sat in our reserves.

Does that include paying his salary as I very much doubt either of those clubs could or would pay anywhere near what JB currently earns?

It's clear Brayford doesn't fit Wilders plans and has been frozen out. There were players last season on their last chances - Freeman and Coutts and they earned their right to stay. Brayford, Wallace and now Done are not in the last chance club by the looks of it and so will be moved on.

As for Brayford and Freeman, i was a big fan of Brayford, but after an absolutely brilliant season for Freeman, he's proved that he's the better player for Wilder and sorry to say, Brayford is 3rd choice wingback

I believe Wallace played for the U-23s, but do we know if Done or Brayford are even training with the squad? If not, seems harsh on Done unless something has gone on behind the scenes.

We're in a real bad situation with Brayford and it leaves a very sour taste.

FLN was happy to pay stupid money to sign him for us but is only willing to pay the bare minimum to get him to Burton. He knows full well that he's on big wages and we're desperate to get rid. He knows there won't be much other interest in him. He knows that come 31 August we'll be willing to let him go for whatever we can get. So we'll continue to pay him for nothing while FLN bides his time.

He's had a wage rise following the promotion he contributed zero towards and given that he was apparently on 18k p/w at Cardiff, I suspect that's what he might be on now. Our highest paid player. We can't have him sticking around doing fuck all (and that's all he'd be doing) when our key players are on considerably less.

Most disastrous signing we've ever made. Well done to FLN, Phipps and the fans who all thought it would be a good idea.

The fact neither are getting games suggests they are either actively on with finding another club and close to leaving or have been given the cold shoulder.

I don't believe that the latter is Wilders style, so I assume it's the former.

Both will be gone before the season starts I reckon. It's just a game of other clubs getting them as cheaply as possible. Same as we have with other clubs like Southend.

We are not is a good bargaining position with either seeing as it's been made clear we want them to move on.

Ive got a lot of time for Brayford, Really do like the guy, but the whole transfer was essentially A new step dad trying to buy the appreciation if his step kids despite not being able to afford it.

You mean the same position we were in when the club signed him. Brayford was clear he wanted to come and we got him well below his market value at the tIme...and on lower wages than he was on at the the time too.

Clough brought in Freeman as HIS plan was to get Brayford on promotion. In the January, the club were worried as it wasn't going well and just went for it hoping he would have the same effect he had had the past time he arrived. He didn't as we know. That was more a Phipps/Prince signing than anyone else, and caused a bit of a stir at the time.
Seems you have a bit of an agenda with Clough, but as we know, the truth is that Clough didn't sign anyone without the club sanction.

Don't think it was well below market value because £2m was what Cardiff paid, and he didn't get in their team until they were relegated.

We're not in the same position Cardiff were. There's a will from him and Burton to make it happen but it's not like he's of any use or value to us in the meantime. Cardiff weren't desperate to sell by any stretch.

Lot of double standards on here, same people slating Clough for freezing out Collins think it's perfectly acceptable for Wilder to do the same to Brayford who is a miles better player than Collins and proven in the championship !

But we needed Collins. Or at least a proper centre half.

That may well be the case but if his performances we're at the same level as previous then Championship clubs would be queuing up for him.

It sounds like Burton want him for nowt and we don't want him at all. That would suggest his stock as a player isn't particularly high at the moment and there must be a reason for that.

There's probably also a reason why Wilder won't entertain having him in the side. He moved on the bulk of Clough's/Adkins' players when he arrived including Brayford. Maybe he wanted a clean slate and now doesn't want revisit that era. It sounded like he was on very high wages as well.

He was a championship full back with plenty of time left on his contract. A good player, who had a huge impact on what turned into a successful season the year previous. He was seen as a talisman, a leader by example and also seen as a player to see out a career with as we continued to build.

Agreed Cardiff wanted to keep him...and I reckon Wilder would too if he hadn't had to make the necessary decision he did last season to move him on, based on budget manly and how he could use his wage being freed, along with the Adams fee to create the squad he did. The emergence of Freeman and the teams rise without him meant he was never going to be able to come back in.

But we needed Collins. Or at least a proper centre half.

Brayford plays centre half. Very well too.
Some players can excel in more than one position, and although the player prefers full back he is an accomplished centre half too. Bash being another example. Coutts was outstanding on the right at Derby apparently, but who would have him anywhere else other than centre now? Players change, and Collins was useless and incapable of doing the job required by the manager. End of.

Exactly grizzly, plus the freezing out of Brayford means everyone knows we are a forced seller of a player who has had a bad injury and who is earning a fortune. Hardly a position of strength with which to begin negotiating with, hence Burton's stance.

Yes I do think Wilder is playing this wrong and should be integrating Brayford in to preseason.

Clough also decided to freeze out Butler after one game, a piece of idiocy that, along with freezing out Collins, left us fielding assorted full-backs at centre-half in key matches such as the playoff semi-finals.

Probably my biggest criticism of Clough.

You can say we still got to the play off's (despite being as close to relegation as the top) and a cup semi. However maybe we'd have done even better in the league if he'd recruited much better.

I didn't have a problem with bringing Butler and Mcgahey in, but to oust Butler and Collins so soon and then do nothing other than loan a woefully unfit Mccarthy was criminal.

Nope.

Your mate Relish has that dubious honour.

It's doesn't look like he fits in so why would you bother?
Because brayford is an asset and has a value so miss treating him harms his value who is gonna take an unfit miserable player only one team and manager and they wont take him till 11pm on deadline day
