I've seen a couple of futsal vids recently which ive been wowed by. Couple of the top players in futsal would give messi/ronaldi a run for their money. Some of the most skillful players in football - zidane ronaldhino etc have been playing futsal since retiring.

This got me thinking. There must be a wealth of futsal players available who would jump at the chance of being paid big bucks in pro football. In terms of attributes they look a lot more technical, skilful and agile - perhaps dont have the endurance though.

Surely people must have thought about poaching some of these players before, surely they must be worth a look and could offer something - especially at champ level.

Check out this guy falcao (brazilian of course)

Looks unreal! Sign him up!

Some incredibly talented players on the ball, but 11 a side is very different. There's a reason they aren't successful professional footballers, you need a combination of attributes.

I like to think I can make the ball stick, I can hold it relatively well and I've often realistically thought that I'm better on the ball than many professional players I've seen. But I'm a million miles away from professional standard.

My fitness is appalling, I'm quite slow, not the best finisher, bit slack defensively...

I reckon many of these fustal players would be almost non existent in the professional game, even at the lower levels. They're completely different games that require different skill sets.

It's simiiar but almost a different sport compared to 11 a side football.
You often find that some brilliant 5 a side players aren't that good on a 11 a side full size pitch and vice versa.

Another comparison is the big boxing fight next month.
Connor McGregor is a fantastic fighter and appears to have excellent boxing ability
But all the experts say he doesnt stand a chance against Mayweather because MMA is a totally different sport to boxing.

i would suggest you may find the odd diamond, but im guessing a high percentage of these players came from a footballing background and were deemed not good enough, i cant see anyone actually growing up wanting to play it instead of football, if they were good enough to go down that path, but i agree there is some incredible talent on show, i suppose its like a friend of mine, arguably the best pool player ive seen in the flesh, can never beat him and im pretty useful, but if we play snooker i smash him every time, just totally different games

This! I've played football most of my life, I've always been a very good 5 a-side player, quick thinking, good first touch & can use both feet, good finisher too. But I'm fucking useless at 11 a-side like lost sheep chasing the ball with no positioning sense at all.

If they both paid the same and had the same following i would play futsal over football. Its a lot more exciting. I Have in the past and for me its help build my technical side a lot quicker than 11 a side ever has where you get a lot more time and space on the ball.

A lot of these attributes surely can be taught whereas the technical side that they have is much harder to learn. Perhaps the jump is too much though like you and others have alluded too.

Reminds me of when Steve Charles turned up from America, apparently he was so skillful he was going to stand out like 'a fly in the sugar bowl', I don't remember him doing anything special.

Remember seeing him score at Exeter for us unless my memory is playing tricks again ;)

Agree entirely SB , even at a much lower level , I played with a lad who at 4/5 a side was an outstanding player , superb close control & instinctive finisher & every trick in the book . Thinking he looked a good player & at the time I was playing at a decent level at Sats I brought him along to training and he played in a couple of pre-season friendlies .
Unfortunately looked a completely different player on grass on the big pitch he didn't have the engine or physically for 11 a side game ,as I said he was an exceptional player at 4/5 a side & I don't doubt now with the growth of Futsal he'd would have probably had a chance of playing at very high level if it was the present , but they are very different.

Makes me laugh when people say they're better than a professional. No offence Steve, you might have a better touch to be fair than likes of Jordan Slew who knows!

But a certain ex Blade once played 5 a side in the summer for a mates team. I'll not say who, because I know they're not allowed to (naughty) but he absolutely showed everyone up. He wasn't a standout ex player either.

You really don't realise how good the pro players are till you're on the same patch of grass as them. I was honestly tied up in knots time and time again, and he was only fucking about.

Makes me think twice about calling players shit nowadays. Conor Sammon being the exception.

Was it Kyle McFadzean? He regularly plays with his mates over the summer. Always has done.

Does it not also make you laugh when people think they know how to run a football club better than those who do?

It was indeed.

And not really, I don't think anyone thinks they can run a football club better than McCabe can, they are allowed an opinion however. And some very fair points are raised.

It's not just the raw skill either. They have to process information at a frightening speed.

It's actually difficult to appreciate how fast a game is if you're watching from the stands or on TV. It's only if you're right near the touchlines that you get a proper feel for it. The further away you are, the slower it looks.
I noticed that when BT showed the FA Trophy and Vase finals on TV, they filmed it from a low angle, even though it was at Wembley and I suspect it was to make the games look faster.

I've played with a few lads who were nothing more than academy players for United and Wednesday. Frighteningly better than me and our peers yet never made it, now milling around in non league.
You're right, bottom row of Cherry Street next to the dugouts is the best view in the house for truly getting a feel for the game.
