One comment on there made me laugh...

I don't think Wilder, with the way he likes to play football, will start a cultured midfield playmaker very often.

Yeh we played awful, direct/hoofball football last season. I don't think Fleck or Coutts touched the ball more that 2 or 3 times a game...
I think they're getting us mixed up with one of the other promoted sides for some reason.

He'd only be back up as at present hes nowhere near as good as Coutts or Fleck...or Carruthers for that matter. This link worries me a little as I wonder whether it could mean Fleck or Coutts are being coveted by another club.

Leonard is a different kind of player and I can see why we want him so I'd definitely prefer him of the two.

They don't seem to like Tufty much do they.

They're jealous because he has done wonders for us and he left them for bottom of the table Northampton! They'll never be anything other than a club that goes between the 3rd and 4th division.

that post shows the poster to be absolutely clueless Roy

You wonder what they've witnessed to come to such a conclusion about a manager who produced the sort of football we saw last season and Northampton the season before. If the football under Wilder was as bad they make out at Oxford , to completely change his entire outlook and produce the sort of fluent passing, attacking displays we saw throughout last season makes him an even better manager than I thought he was!

I saw his Oxford team against us on a few occasions. I was far from impressed and can understand the View from the dreaming spires.

However both his Cobblers and Blades teams played proper; exhilarating football, the right way.

For now, I'm going with the most recent evidence.

From an Oxford supporting mate of mine

You've not fucking nicked him too?

And

No fireworks but we played better with him in the team

just seen an article claiming we have put a bid in for him.
23 year old, Oxford captain, central midfielder. Not exactly a goal scorer looks more like a coutts sort of player. He's apparently valued at 500k

Now that's what I call a stalking horse if ever I saw one!

No interest there at all. Just something to put pressure on Ron to sell Leonard.

How have I not heard that they lost Michael Appleton before now? I don't go in search of Oxford United news very often, but still...

That's hilarious, they loved bigging the fucker up.

Admittedly I don't know too much about him other than my customary Google of a player we're linked with so I can make half an assessment on whether he'll be any good. He sounds very similar to Coutts so I don't know what to make of him right now. I also think Reed plays a similar game to this as well and I'd like to think that he'd get an opportunity in our team if he kicks on at Chezzy.

Happy to be proven wrong by someone who is much more informed on here and if we were to sign him I'd save judgements until he plays but at the moment that's my two cents. At the end of the day if Wilder wants him, I want him.

Chief I 've seen plenty of him. I'd describe him as a neat and tidy linkman who looks good on the ball. Would be good back up for Coutts but wouldn't be an immediate upgrade on what we have. However he's the right age and will improve so in a season or two could be Coutts replacement.

Didn't really think of it that way Frieth. I guess in that case he could be seen as a Carruthers type of signing (I.e. he was brought in with a view to being Duffys replacement in the near future).

Reed could still kick on but hes still at least a season away from even being considered in our first team so it might be wise to get someone who can do a job here and now and still develop like Lundstram.

I would maybe still want to bring a midfielder who can battle to win us the ball and relieve pressure on Coutts/Fleck but having said that I'm a fan of Bashambauer in midfield. Maybe he adds that defensive dimension that someone like Leonard would have provided? We also have good options at youth level for midfield and I wouldn't want to block that pathway. Whiteman might gives us a good option for a ball winning, box to box role and I think he'll be ready for the step up come January.

Couttsy will be 29 on Saturday. I hope this Rolls Royce of a footballer will be orchestrating our midfield for a little longer than that.

I remember him coming through the ranks at Everton and a lot was expected. I think he may have even played for England at youth level.

Seems to have done well at Oxford. Might be a smart signing.

Think the captained the England U20 team that Connor Coady played in. After a good season with Donny, he lost his way a bit before coming again with Oxford. He was a player I suggested last season. Another that I thought would be a great signing in League 1 and who might be OK in the championship.

Am I right in thinking that at Oxford, Wilder worked without Knill (was he off managing Bury at the time)? Perhaps a different approach with different coaching staff?

Knill is definitely a huge influence our current style of play. I've said before that Wilder is the motivator and Knill is the technician.

Good point. Also, Oxford were in the conference when he took over and were desperate for promotion. Wilder is pretty adaptable and may have felt that agricultural football was the way to get promoted. If he inherited a team of cloggers and didn't have the budget to overhaul the side or the time to slowly rebuild it was probably the best option.

Don't know anything about him tbh. But hope we sign him just to piss off the oxford fans, hate them lot

Can't see him coming from Barcelona (B) to sit on the bench http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40643608

Oxford United have signed free agent and former Barcelona B midfielder Xemi on a three-year contract.

The 22-year-old playmaker impressed at UE Cornella before joining Barcelona B in December 2015, going on to make 46 appearances for the Catalan club.

Xemi, whose full name is Josep Miquel Codina Fernandez, is U's manager Pep Clotet's fourth summer signing.

"I have always thought about playing English football," Xemi told BBC Radio Oxford.

"My favourite players were [Steven] Gerrard and [Frank] Lampard."

He added: "I was looking to continue playing in the Spanish second division, but when Oxford appeared I was really interested in coming here.

"It's going to be more intense here, I think, and I will fit in better here than Barca."
