League one forever Mr Holmes.
Shame.
Unlucky gippo.

Maybe it is our own fault, for singing` You`re just a shit Gareth Bale`to him at the Valley, good day for him, lengthier contract, pay rise, stay where he lives now,Division 1 football

Funniest thing about this is that charlton will probably be play offs at best next season. Blackburn have bought well and Wigan will still be strong under cook, can't see past them for the top two.

Southend are buying some decent players,

Scunthorpe have a squad good enough for the top 6.

Bury have spent well (seemingly).

Rotherham could be ok if they start well, but not convinced they have got the right manager.

Even pompy could use last seasons momentum to challenge.

I reckon Holmes would take a shit Gareth Bale chant as a compliment to be fair!

Well, he turned us down. No crime amd no problem. Good player but, as he didn't come, he wasn't right for us. Here's hoping what he got is what he wants.

Onwards and upwards.............. dont quite think he'd be the talisman he's hyped up to be. Let him be a big fish in a small pond if he wants guaranteed League One football for the length of his contract. He didnt want to come so screw him. I'd imagine there's a fair portion of posturing to gain a new contract in the first place by him or his agent showing "some" interest in coming here.

As I've said elsewhere Tufty is magic at multi-tasking. He managed to sign Stearman whilst the Leonard and Holmes bids were still ongoing. He may even have alternatives to Holmes already lined up. Doing more than one thing at once...quite remarkable.

A man who can multi-task? For fucks sake don't tell Ms Crab, she already has impossibly high expectations of me already ;)

My 2 cents....

On the one hand its another one in the eye for the whole " you cant keep a possibly player once a side from the league above comes calling" and if we genuinely wanted him we are going to have to pay the going rate for players clubs are desperate to keep. Hope the board bear this in mind going forwaeds.

You can keep a player if he doesn't want to move.

Holmes used our interest to get a pay rise and a three year deal.

We would probably have only offered him 2yrs with an option at his age, and this way he doesn't have to uproot himself and his family to a place 200 miles north of where they want to be.

If the player had wanted the move he wouldn't have signed the new contract and he would be in Spain now,

And Wilder would have read the tea leaves a couple of weeks ago and moved on.
Leaving the bid on the table just put pressure on Robinson & Charlton to give Holmes a new contract.

And that is exactly whast he said a couple of weeks ago. Something along the lines of 'if it isn't sorted by Friday we move on'. This also applied to Lennard so maybe expect our interest to be focused somewhere else?

Still it won't stop the anti-McCabes who will blame him for another failed transfer, albeit a player the manager doesn't really seem that bothered about.

I'm fairly content tbh.

Trust Wilder's judgement but not totally convinced on a player of his age coming get on a decent contract.

How do you know it's the club not allowing him to spend more?

Do you think Wilder is lying?

Of course a manager wants as much money as possible. Doesn't mean that Wilder will spend more than he think Holmes is worth. He's said on many occasions that this club has wasted too much money in the past and that we won't be doing that any more.

Admit it, you love it when something even slightly negative happens. Some people are 'glass half full'. Some are 'glass half empty'. With you it's like someone has pissed in your glass, threw it against a wall and then made you clean it up.

You find out plenty when your on the golf course when the team are at home. That's where a lot of the experts are these days.

#twitterblades badly let down by Holmes. Believed player + agent he was keen to play for CW + test himself in c'ship. Clearly just wanted...

.....pay rise. Looked on cards when player didn't push for transfer on return from holiday. Doubt he will ever play for CW again. His loss.

My thoughts

As usual "the goalposts were moved".

His comments on the shareholding/loans and interest apparently payable are a load of bollocks as well.

How do you know he hasn't moved on?

He knows Holmes maybe he was just helping him out?

No loss to us either way.

A really good article I think and even their local press acknowledge that if this was a no-brainer deal then it is slightly strange that it took weeks to sign this so called no-brainer! I don't blame Robinson either from wanting to keep him at all costs, because a few more hundred grand won't buy them another Ricky Holmes, he is pivotal to their chances of success next season. As I said on another thread, I wouldn't mind Luke Berry, 24, with 22 goals from the Duffy role this season and Cambridge are willing to sell at around £250,000 - since that is the reported fee that was agreed with Hibs but the deal fell down due to alleged differences on the players wage demands. Would have thought we'd be fine on that.

Hope he breaks his leg in multiple places.
Absolute scummy money grabbing mug
Plays for an awful team with awful fans.

Honestly would love to see Charlton owner run them into admin. Joke.

Just a tad harsh there I think....

Utd offered X. His current club wanted X plus Y. We wouldn't pay the extra Y (either cos CW didn't want to OR Wilder couldn't afford to with his budget). Result being no deal between clubs.

Meanwhile the player who was probably very willing to join SUFC realises that the clubs aren't going to agree a fee and therefore signs his 'no brainer' much improved contract with his current club 5 weeks after it was offered. In truth he has just spun the usual shite to his current clubs fans to keep em onside. He could hardly tell em that 'I was gunna sod off and leave you but then I had to stay so I've just took a huge pay rise to compensate for having to stick around with you lot'.

The lad has just had a cracking season and was in a position where he was always going to be offered a significant pay rise either from a move or by staying and signing a new contract. The only way he wasnt going to be quids in was if he decided to gamble and see out his final year to become a free agent next year.

The lad has done nothing wrong and has just done the best for himself and his family. Likewise, both Utd and CAFC have done nothing wrong and have both looked after their own best interests. We didn't want to pay their inflated asking price, they didn't want to accept our 'insufficient' offer (in their opinion).

Just hasnt worked out this time and I see no reason to start calling CAFC a scummy club or wishing someone to have a major career threatening injury. Thats just immature or downright nasty. It's not worth getting into a tizz over tbh.
