I think they must have read the book....written by Kevin McCabe..."How not to run a football club in 36 months, and look stupid"

Boyd was decent....can go missing. At his age...WTF. Hutton....again...WTF.

Seriously, the clamour and desperation to go up as soon as possible is causing them to fall into the trap many other clubs have done over the years.
Throw money at players who cost a lot, and overlook the gems and improving talent as they don't have time to hang around for it. Surely after spending silly money last season to get worse you would have thought someone might have suggested a change of plan. But they are committed to it now, they have nothing to fall back on no rising talents to build around.
Just a sorry bunch of very highly paid Premier league drop outs, looking for the wages to keep them in Lamborghini's.

If ever Untited were in a position to have that kind of money again, I would hope we would continue to do things methodically and planned well in advance.

Boyd is a good signing on wages that are in keeping with what he is. A championship standard footballer. 10k a week tops....but they aren't paying that are they?

Championship centre back at Leeds, liam Cooper, and very good mate of Billy BTW....10k a week. Plus bonus's.
That's about the money these days and a good gauge for where we will be aiming longer term.
IMHO that should be the maximum for the second tier of English football.

Followed by headless chicken Gabby Agbonlahor on 60k

The overwhelming majority of signings being made by Championship clubs this Summer, and over the last few years, seem to be players who have a recognisable 'name' but who are 3 or 4 years past their best, on the way down, and are now doing the rounds of desperate Championship clubs who are prepared to offer handsome wages which keep them in the manner to which they became accustomed whilst they were middling Premier League players. The agents are clearly doing a brilliant job for their clients. For me, Boyd and Hutton fall into that category.

Looking at the business being done by our rivals in the Championship, I am yet to see anything that makes me sit up and think, 'that's a good signing'. Clubs seem to have given up on doing any proper scouting. Almost every signing screams of a wily agent legging over a stupid club owner or Managing director, who has the money but knows absolutely nothing about foootball.

At a push, Millwall's signing of Elliott from Wimbledon looks like a well scouted move and perhaps Birmingham's signing of Richards from Barnsley.

I've just burst out laughing in the office upon seeing the tweets about Alan Hutton.

Boyd is a good player but I don't see him smashing the league. If anything he is on the decline now.

I dread to think what there wage bill will be this season. They really are skating on thin ice if they don't go up soon.

First George (only ever decent at Peterboro) Boyd

Yeah he's been shit since leaving Peterborough. Managed to get a Championship runners-up medal at Hull and a Championship title with Burnley. I mean since leaving Peterborough, he's only managed 63 games at Championship level. The rest (101) were all at Premier League level. What a backwards step that was o_O

I mean, how shit must the guy be these days?? He only played 36 of Burnley's 38 games last season.

If it was up you to we'd be signing Stuart fekkin downing. Who has similar stats to Boyd over the past few years.

Richards is shite. I'd be more impressed if they'd signed the centre-back, Roberts.

George Boyd is a quality signing at this level unfortunately. Burnley offered him a new deal.

He always gives 100% and regularly topped distance covered stats in the prem as well as providing attacking drive - think he'll do well for the snort beasts.

But they are gonna be in a Position where they have 100's of thousands of pounds a week on the bench - they can't possible keep everyone happy.

Tufty has a plan, and until I see differently, I'm all for it.

You can keep your PL rejects and take the risk they still have fire in their belly for a 46 game season. I'll have guys with something to prove all day at the bay.

In Tufty we Trust!

So why haven't Burnley offered him a better contract if he was so integral to their survival in the prem ? Another year there or two at wendy, I know what I would take, hes on his way out mate Sean Dyche is no fool.

He was offered a contract by Burnley. He rejected it. I imagine given that they stayed up, Burnley will be improving their squad and so Boyd's playtime could well be limited.

Maybe this is another case of (similar to Brayford) a player wanting to actually play football rather than just earn a living??

I meant Roberts, obviously.

Yeah he's shit as well. That's why he's being monitored by shit clubs like Leeds, Derby and Brighton. We can do better.

Don't care who's monitoring him, he's been in decline since he was about 22.

You're wasting your time. Just remember that everything the pigs do is wrong. Everyone they sign is shit. That will still be the case if they get promoted.

What a complete mug you must be. At 22yrs old he was playing in League 2.
Since leaving Peterborough he has always been above them in the footballing pyramid, he has just spent 3 of his previous 4 seasons as a premier league player - playing 29, 36 & 36 games. If he was so shit, i'm sure that he wouldn't have been capable of playing 88% of the possible games at his respective club.

All I can see from you in this thread is:

a) You're jealous that Weds have signed a great player that we can only dream of signing
b) You really do have red tinted specs on

Would you have been disappointed if we had signed him? Tell me which of our players (in his position) are better than him?

I don't get it. Boyd is a great player. Very highly rated at Peterborough and has been consistent at Championship level and played a big chunk of Premier League games too.

If say Forest or Derby had signed him, I imagine people would be saying it's a good signing.

It is not just about his ability. He comes with a wage expectation.

For that reason I would not lumber us with his abilities for the next 3 years at £30k+ per week. With NI and pension you are looking at nearly £6m over the life of his contract. The greedy twat would probably want a signing on fee too and expect us to pay his agent's fees for all the hard work he'd done in making one call. Getting nearer to £7m now.

In all seriousness, Hammond was a good player once. It just happened to be well before we got lumbered with him.

Pele, Beckenbauer, Platini, Best, Charlton, Moore and Cruyff were great/brilliant players,

George Boyd doesn't quite have that ring to it...

I thought that was us?....

You'd certainly think so in the prevailing madness.
