The Latin motto on the Spurs badge caught my eye the other day, and I had a look at other clubs' mottoes, several of which are well-known (Everton, Man City, etc.). I then realised that I didn't know United's motto, and a quick search suggests that we never had one. Apparently for the 1925 and possibly the 1936 Cup Finals we wore the city badge with its Latin motto, but we appear never to have had a motto of our own. The likes of Bury and Yeovil, to pick at random 2 'lesser' clubs, have one, so why did we never have one? Was the Board being mean-spirited? Was the club formed for the common man who would not know Latin? Curious. The wits on here might like to suggest one for future use.

'Strength Through Adversity' above the steps in the tunnel maybe counts as our motto? We've been through far more adversity than any glory so it is quite fitting for us!

I'm glad we don't have a motto on our club crest though.

Just a few
Demum, veniunt porci = At last, here come the pigs.

Cogito, ergo doleo = I think, therefore I am depressed

Fac ut gaudeam = Make my day.

Raptus regaliter = Royally screwed.

Noster populus facit discrepantiam= Our people make the difference

Well when we wore the Sheffield coat of arms on our shirts we adopted the city's motto 'Deo Adjuvante Labor Proficit'. (With gods help, our work is succesful)

I love Latin, beautiful language.
And that motto's worked a treat for us! Are you sure it doesn't mean 'With God's help. Labour win'?
