With Roygbiv fingers taking a well deserved frap holiday on Xhamster, it takes another wanker to jerk into cut and paste mode.

Did well with Northampton before going to Sheff Utd. You'd have to think he'd fancy a crack at the Championship with his United side though.

He's a Sheffield lad and a United fan isn't he? Doubt he'll be leaving them any time soon.

Was discuissng him as an option yesterday, has done very well.
I'd rather go for a manager on the up with some recent success on his cv as opposed to one of names on the merry go round circuit.

Mare chance of Gene Wilder coming here.

In his willy Wonka outfit.

Blades fan, Blades player now manager
Allegedly used to know some of the Blades Business Crew in their 80s heyday....can't see him going anywhere fast
Well done on achieving 100 points Chris and the Lads

We've got no chance in this league next season man. Even the likes of Bolton and Sheffield United will have a decent crack at it.
leave a promoted side for a relegated on..in the same division next season?
would need to pay out big..as usual

Not being funny but why would he leave them for us?
It's sad to say, but I cannot see why we would be a better option than Sheffield United at the minute.

they will be top half next season at least, got decent backing behind them, fuck knows where we will be. He will take the blades up within the next 3 years

He's a Sheffield United fan as well. It would be pointless him coming here.

No where near good enough for Sunderland. Used to watch him a lot when he was at Oxford and there was no issues when he left for Northampton. Sheff Utd are always up there was a matter of time, he'd be a disaster for us

he's done well aye but I think his affection for the club might cloud the judgement of many at Sheff United. Next season is the real test imo.

I still think we will be an attractive proposition for an ambitious manager.

You missed a comment from a Sunderland fan who said "Is this a joke? I've never heard of Chris Wilder". Another one said "I'd rather have Van Wilder".

They're not enthused at the prospect of having our manager
But many Blades were the same when we were getting him from league 2 Northampton.

I was told years ago CW was on the fringes of the BBC by someone else that also was. Surprised it doesn't get spoken of on here more, but to be honest I'd rather it was left in the past.

Sunderland sound like a bygone era seaside theme park with just 3 rides with 2 out of service and some fat woman in the kiosk giving out tickets whilst tending to two packets of Lambert & Butler.

Chris Wilder's words not mine.

He's got it pretty much spot on to be fair and that's coming from a Sunderland lad.

The ride that works has shitty split leather seats as well.

He'd be nuts to leave you for them, if he keeps the momentum going there's every chance he could establish the Blades as a better placed club for seasons to come.

He grew up with the lads from woodseats & jordo,& managed the bradway on Sundays 'cause he knows some of the lads & some who got put on the naughty step ! .. is this front page news to some ppl ??

There's something rotten behind the scenes at Sunderland, there has to be for Aberdeens manager to turn them down.

No way will Wilder go there.

Agree with no leadership , quality , could Sunderland be looking at league 1 and not a return to the premiership . As we well know , when a toxic atmosphere sets in , there is only one way to go and it's usually down.

The Aberdeen manager had a shit time at Bristol City and perhaps used his head to keep his stock high by turning Sunderland down . Wilder will not go as second choice anywhere .

Wilder needs to be happy at the lane , both in job and financial reward . Up to the board not to get carried away with self adulation and fuck up the brilliant relationship now created between supporters , club and manager .

More Town Hall balcony evenings can be round the corner .

The best comment was from one lad who, when responding to a comment saying "Is it Gene Wilders brother?" said...
"Come with me, and you'll be, in a team that's full of fucking wankers".
Well played, pal! :)
UTB

If I could like this 1000 times, trust me when I say that I would

OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER, Not shouting merely highlighting the relevance. ;)

If you are a Blade and were in his position considering his connection and integrity what would tear you away? Nothing not even a squillion quid would prize me away because my love and loyalty for my club far out-values any amount of cash. Money is not the be all and end all and no amount of it can replace our purpose and integrity. It is those without integrity who may consider otherwise. And there lies the difference I would argue.

I think Chris and his team would be astonished some of us think he would consider alternatives seriously, at this the start of our collective journey.

I know he aint gunna be here forever but I would suggest he will stay until he feels he has taken us as far as is possible with the means he has. Until such times I am chilling and enjoying the ride based on what we know rather than what is being speculated upon.

Woo Hooo, fixtures out in two days. UTB

Very true, nevertheless we have to see him and Knill right.

5 year contract minimum, maybe 7, maybe 10 years. If he ever did leave it would be one that would be impossible to turn down but somehow I don't see Wilder fitting in at a really big club but he'll have a soft spot for Southampton for example. Cover all angles, if he were to leave then the longer his contract with us the more we could negotiate from the other club.

In the meantime reward the two of them handsomely, build on the momentum, leave them in no doubt that they are building something big for the future. And if they fail over the next couple of seasons- so what? Stick with them and live or die on their abilities. Without doubt, with their capabilities and application, they would get it right in the medium term but the odds are that they conquer the Championship within 3 years - importantly- better than any other likely candidate we could attract.

Back when Sharpe was a lad and when he came back first time I said much the same about him. Back him, build a side around him, live or die with his capabilities. Imagine how much we could have achieved with him as our main striker all these years. Such as James Beattie was only going to come and go quickly; Sharpe would never have left if we had given him the slightest encouragement to stay.

I'd be content to fail with Wilder over the next couple of years and should that happen I know he'd turn it around. Give him the long contract. Let him know and all the football world know we are on a mission here and to watch out. Sunderland would not even think about prising him away if we made such a statement.

Woodwardfan im in agreement that you stick with someone if you know they are good enough...class is permanent and form temporary is one of my favourite sentences and is relevant in many areas of life.

Wilder isn't perfect, but up to now he has been superb for our club. I believe he is capable of getting us up again and keeping us there.
As a club, we have to set out our goals and at the moment the goal is to go to the premier league and stay there. So Wilder for me is still the ideal choice.
If/when we meet those goals we have to set new ones otherwise you stagnate. So after we have set new goals we have to assess whether Wilder would be capable of taking us to new goals and targets, and then make changes if it's clear he isn't.
IMHO, Wilder may struggle when dealing with the top players, the big players in the game who can be more difficult to motivate. So if we go up, we may then need to start dealing with those types of player and the choice is much more limited, so his style of management might not be best suited.

I could be wrong, and let's be honest we are talking years down the line here but for now Wilder is the perfect fit.

I agree but all that might well take 10 years to work through. If Sheffield United were ever to get to that point when we are signing those top players you are thinking of then that would be quite something. If we should reach such a stage, which we have never reached in all my 61 years supporting them, then I think Wilder would be ready for a big job upstairs in the club and free beer for life from 30000 Blades anytime he wants. Should we appoint a foreign manager at that time, I for one would be a tad disappointed.

I really like things as they are right now. Let's learn from history, that 'step up' Robson with Kidd as his No. 2 set us back for a decade.

Agree wholeheartedly. Give them everything they need but most importantly give them the Time they need, a la Fergy who was not the most successful British Football Manager by accident.

GrizzlyBlade, on what do you base your opinion that CW and IK will struggle with top players? Honest question because as of yet, I don't know of any he has had to deal with. For me, he has a Fergyesque attitude and we all know how that worked out.

As a club, we need to keep driving forwards. If we are succesful and he feels backed, I can't see why he would go to another championship club. If we make progress into the Prem, I don't see why we can't hang on to him either (other than money). While ever we match his ambition and success, I think he will repay us with success and loyalty. In CW and AK, I trust.

The only fly in the ointment I see is Southampton if he feels let down in any way or, success is not quick enough for him.

That's scarily accurate, except there are no more seaside rides working, infact there are no longer any rides in the seaside theme park.

Too right. If he hadn't been a Blade, we'd have been furious at only achieving 100 points (particularly after all the other successes over the last six years). We only like him because he's a Blade.

Spot on!

138 points available and the bloody idiot chucked away 38 of them. Waster!
