Leicester 2 (Glover, Fern) Blades 1 (Reece). After the match Woody had every player in the team coach to sign my programme. Wish I still had the programme

Leeds Utd away lost 4 3 after being 4 nil down and the most dodgy refereeing decisions I have ever seen...Phil Kite punished for releasing ball out of his hands outside area and Leeds scored from free kick. Replays later showed he was well inside area. Think we'd have got a point from that game if it had lasted another 5 minutes really had them on the rack at the end.

Rotherham, friendly August 1970 won 2-0, Colquhoun & Currie

Remember it well

Villa away in the Premiership. Brilliant day out in the sun, plenty of beers and a party atmosphere. Relegation was unthinkable at kick off.
I was absolutely steaming at Villa , Up to 4:50 had a great day out .. then realised we were back in the shit ... didn't deter me from me & 49 others on the fun getting obliterated over the course of the evening ..

I didn't have much opportunity to go to away games as a kid coming from a non blade family

However, it was a Friday night in 1979 and my mate was having a party at his house, as his mum and dad were on holiday

He talked me into going to Mansfield to watch United play next day

So we left the party at about 9.00 next morning and set off

He didn't tell me we'd be hitch hiking

So we stood at the bottom of the Parkway thumbing for about an hour and a half,

Anyway I got bored and went to Pond Street and got a return ticket on the service bus

The bus got smashed to bits on the way to Mansfield by some rather scary looking people

We managed to arrive in Mansfield and went to the pub, went to the match, won 4-3 and went to the top of the League.........Fantastic

Then I arrived at Mansfield bus station expecting to get the service bus back to Sheffield

But no !!!! All return buses had been cancelled because of the damage done to them on the way

I was stuck in Mansfield, the town didn't even have a train station at the time with about 20p in my pocket

A couple of hundred United fans set off walking to Chesterfield where the plan was to get the bus from there back to Sheffield

Of course some of these morons couldn't behave, throwing bricks and bottles at any Mansfield fans we passed, looting shops and smashing windows.

It wasn't long before plod arrived with about 10 Black Marias, Dogs, Riot Gear, everything

They waded in swinging clubs at everyone and anyone

They chucked me in the van and took me to Mansfield police station where they kept me locked up all night with 104 other Blades fans IN ONE CELL

They dripped us all off in Sheffield at 5.00 next morning regardless of where anybody lived

One lad sat next to me lived in Worksop and we practically drove past his house on the way but the police wouldn't stop and let him get out

I had to walk from Sheffield City Centre to Crookes which wasn't too bad but some of the lads in the police vans were in the completely wrong city altogether

That was my first proper away game

Unfortunately 26th December 1979.
Never saw us losing it in a million years .. the oinks couldn't win at home but had a good away record and I think either us or Grimsby were top ?? Turning point was when Jeff Bournes chip hit the bar just after they'd gone 1-0 up .. we never adapted to the padi field .. I chose to forget the rest !

Same here even at a young age I was really hurting after that game.
At least it prepared me for the years of hurt that have followed.
I also think losing Mick Speight didn't help.
Sabella not turning up , Derek Richardson in goal say no more.

Perfect summary BB .. yep that was an early battle scar for me as a young blade too

First game other than Bramall Lane, though not technically away match, was at Old Trafford for the FA Cup semi final in 1998. After that it was Belle Vue during that summer's pre-season friendly list. Such contrasting venues.

I can't specifically remember my first league away game. It may have been Huddersfield.

Not very often you get Belle Vue & Old Trafford mentioned in same sentence S64 ! We were shite in that semi against the Mags , played our A game against Coventry in quarters . Think my only abiding memory of it other than being pissed was a geordie who was spouting off outside getting levelled by a one punch , seemed to quieten down some of the remaining chorus line for some reason ?

F***ing hooligan :)

First away game Leeds 1976, already relegated but won 1-0 on a Tuesday night, Woody scored. Dad had got a couple of freebies through work in their West Stand. 2nd away game 2-1 win at Oldham 27th Dec 1976, next 2-1 at Millmoor in 1979 when Blades fans knocked the wall down on Tivoli, really started to enjoy these away games, we turned up and Blades won, then came 26th Dec 1979 ....

Forgot about the Rovrum match SUFC done myself out of one of my early ones there , didn't the oinks knock the wall down there same season ?

GOAL - v Leeds (a) 14.4.76. Drifting in from the right after an exchange with Currie, Woodward rode a tackle from Frankie Gray before completely deceiving Harvey with an explosive shot which appeared to catch a slight deflection.

Was at the sty. Around the time of the 93 cup semi. Think it was 1-1. Might have been the game where Deano nutmegged Woods

Oxford away in the mid eighties. It was a night match and we lost but can't remember the score!. I left school at lunchtime to get to the lane. My first time traveling with the blades travel club!!. Got back at 3am.

I might be mistaken but Coventry away in the FA Cup Quarter Finals in 1998 was the first I think. I had been following United for years at home before that so I was excited for my first away day.

I will never forget that Marcelo equaliser and Petr Katchouro almost winning it at the end.

My first away match was back in the late 70s away to Cardiff. I'd not long since started watching the blades and was hooked. We won 6-1 and I've never seen a better away result since!! Think Bobby Campbell got a couple and my hero Woody definitely scored. The rests a blur. Remember the return match and being a young lad I thought we would get a cricket score....... typically I'm sure we lost! (Silent?)

I suppose my first away game was at Hillsborough but I cannot recall a year. Didn't go to the one referred to earlier when Sherman got a brace.

First away game from Sheffield was the Leeds quarter final in 1968. After beating West Ham away in the previous round I really felt that 1968 would be our year and I could look forward to my first ever Wembley visit.

Unfortunately we lost and the only thing I had to look forward to was my first ever relegation.

Never fail to let you down.
