None of them would have bottled it

One or two might have been a bit wary but that would have soon passed when they thought about facing Wilder in the dressing room afterwards

Missing a penalty in a shoot out is horrible for the player and fans but stepping up to have a go shows what a man is all about.
Hiding away and refusing to take one is about as cowardly as it gets

Was there that day and saw him walk away from what should have been his job. Only Don Givens had the bottle to step up but it was so poor the goalkeeper was laid on the ground waiting for the ball to arrive. Thought that day was the worst day of my life, but it changed the club so much and next season winning the 4th division was brilliant.

Bebeto, the great Brazilian striker of the 90's, cost Deportivo La Coruña a league title by abdicating his duties as the main penalty taker during the last match of the season in 1994. The score was 0-0 and the penalty was awarded minutes from the end. He refused to take it and is replacement missed, handing the title to Barcelona.

Knowing how the piglets like to big themselves up they can now lay claim to the "Bebeto of South Barnsley"!

Hiding away and refusing to take one is about as cowardly as it gets

Thing is, is it better for a striker to go ahead and take one when they aren't feeling confident (be it due to fitness, sharpness on the day, or just simply nerves), or reflect on that and allow someone more confident on the day to take it?

Just reading a piece in the Times where Michael Gray (who missed in that remarkable final) was looking around at other people to take one and Danny Dichio had already taken his boots off! Thinking back to 2012, I thought the likes of Quinn (who had taken a penalty or two for us before) and Doyle (our captain) probably should have gone up and taken one rather than someone like Taylor.

Rhodes that day too wasn't in the first 5 (he scored their 6th). Porter, who till that point had never scored a penalty for us and probably wouldn't have been everyone's choice at the time, calmly scored our 5th. Probably our best penalty was number 10 – Matt Hill leathering it into the top corner.
