Retrospective Bans For Diving

Im all for retrospective bans as we need to rid diving out of english football

But i will say that also referees need to start give a penalties to honest players. Because referees are there own worst enemy as complain about diving but then when players try to stay on their feet they get nothing when goalscoring oppotunity goes. Then everyone comes with the line "well if he had gone to ground" & we wonder why people dive

Exactly.

I have been calling for this for years, not just for diving but for all forms of cheating. I believe you could also do away with yellow and red cards and have all punishments applied by review after the match, certainly for all professional games, leaving the red card only for denying a goal scoring opportunity.

I thought it was a great idea but now I see BFS is against it:

"Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce says the Football Association's decision to introduce retrospective bans for players who dive from next season is "utter rubbish".

Even more reason to think it is a good idea then if that fat old fart who can't keep his god shut, doesn't like it.

A similar thing is done in Ice Hockey. In Britain they have DOPS (Department of Player Safety), a panel of ex -refs and officials that review incidents in games. Not only can they apply things retrospectively, they can also increase any punishment that might have been originally considered lenient

Yep, same in rugby league, players regularly get banned for things that they thought they had got away with, including abusing the referee.

would love to see that last one applied to the Premiership prima donnas

Been wanting this for years.

Needs sorting out, but will be interesting to see how they apply it.
Because in my view, I can't be doing with the view that a player has a right to go down if they feel contact.
It's a contact sport, some form of contact should be expected. It's down to players to be honest and to carry on if they are able and let the referee d code if the contact impeded the player in possession.
Players should NOT be trying to force a referees decision, end of story.

However, I suspect this will only be enforced if a clear dive is proven....i.e. No contact and thrown to the floor.

Wait until they start applying retrospective punishment for being a bent bastard. Wonder how many will think that's "rubbish".

About time! Who's bothered what Allardyce thinks.

Beat me to it.

An initiative to clean up the game, ensure probity and respect for the rules is contested by ......... Sam fucking Allardyce. And he is taken seriously ?

I know. Let's get Stuart Hall and Barry Bennell positions at UNICEF, let's make Jeffrey Archer chair of the Parliamentary Standards Committee, and ask Tony Blair to be, er, Peace Envoy to the Middle East.

So he thinks it's rubbish to punish divers retrospectively because he's concerned for the players who are wrongly booked for diving.

These bans will make players think twice about going down easily, meaning less diving and ultimately easier decisions for referees to make. And hopefully fewer wrongly booked players for Allardyce to be worried about.

This will only work if they follow through with it consistently and penalise the high profile, 'superstars'.

As Linz just said, probably a bit easier now Gerrard and a few others have retired.

This needs to be done by FIFA and the respective domestic associations, not just our FA.

I hate diving but fully understand the views of the likes of Gary Neville when they say that they've watched opposition players get away with it often in European and international games, that having an honest approach only costs you matches and even medals in the end.

Very well put old boy! I was always brought up with assertion that, as a player, you had a duty to try and stay on your feet. This age of contact and the player goes down is bullshit, they need to man up and get on with it; one of the reasons I've fallen out of love with the game to be honest, really hope it works!

I'm all for it.

The only difficulty is in the application of the law. What constitutes a dive?

I imagine the FA will want to steer clear of controversy, so only stonewall dives will count...
