Are you assuming Billy will be a shoe in for one of the starting striker roles next season? If so I think you will be mistaken

I don't think 1DaneWhitehouse is the one making the mistake.

I also expect Billy to start most games and to get at least 15 goals, assuming he stays injury free. There is a step up but it is not La Liga and Billy has scored over 80 goals there before.

When you say La Liga, you mean dominated by three decent team and the rest dross?

Billy himself has come out and said he has set himself a target of 16 next season, not saying he is a shoo-in (I'm not the gaffer) but he certainly thinks he will play plenty of games?

We'll see.

Because we were successful at League One level by signing good League One players, plus a couple of Championship level players, such as Sharp and Moore.

So to be successful at Championship level you need to sign good Championship players.....

The number of times I've sat there thinking, if only we had someone with pace who can score a goal that we could bring on for that last 10 /15 minutes last season.....

Now we have, good un Chris..

But we were the big hitters in league 1 so could hoover up the best talent. We don't have that luxury in the championship. We'll have to find more creative ways to be competitive. It's important we don't expect to dominate the championship the way we have in league 1 because it's probably not feasible. I just hope we can punch above our financial weight. I guessed our budget will probably be somewhere around 18-20th so if we can do better than that next season, it's a success.

In my opinion, Wilder is putting together a team of players with proven ability, but that are also powerful, athletic lads who will run all day, have the right attitude and desire to win at all costs, nothing less than 100% every minute of every game.

It's a system that is at complete odds with most modern football teams philosophy and only a team full of outstanding players can counter a high pressing, high energy style of play where little time and space is afforded. By definition, there are no such outstanding teams in the 2nd tier of English football.

To suggest that we will struggle in the Championship is pure football snobbery and ignorance, we will see...:)

18th - 20th? Really?

I think that's where our budget is likely to be. I hope that our momentum and our manager means that we will finish higher but outside of Barnsley, Burton, Bolton and the PO winner plus maybe Ipswich, I'm struggling to see teams that we will have a bigger budget than.

Didn't McCabe indicate that we'd have a top half budget and also state that we'll at least be mid table?

I'm sure he said that about being mid table, if he's comfortable to say that then it indicates we'll have a decent budget.

Let's play a game of who will we have a bigger budget than? All supposition and guesswork of course...

Burton, Preston, Barnsley, Bolton, BradfordorMillwall... yep... that's it for me.

18th to 20th looks about right to me.

What about Huddersfield, Brentford, Cardiff, Bristol City, Birmingham, QPR. I reckon we will have a similar budget to all of these

McCabe comment was "we know we'll be around the top half [next season]"

That should mean we'll have a bigger budget than quite a few clubs.

If it was about punching at your financial weight I doubt if teams like Huddersfield, Reading and Brighton would have finished where they did this season.

Exactly. Which is why I'm hopeful we can do better. I just don't think we can go out and buy tried and tested players at that level who are still in their peak as I think we would be outbid with the money flying around.

I wouldn't read too much into McCabe's words on budget. I think we can compete with some clubs but I think he's underestimating how many have parachute payments or mega rich owners (pigs, Wolves etc.).

Didn't Bristol bid something like £12million for Andre Grey before he opted for Burnley? QPR paid around £3mil for Washington I think. Think Udder spent the best part of £3mil on a CB this season. A lot of clubs are spending a lot of money to compete with the mega-rich. I'd be surprised if we sign anyone for a sum in excess of £3million.

As above, it's surprising how much the above clubs have available to spend... and have spent. As much as I think the snorters overstate it and we'll do well this coming season, the Championship is a very different place than when we were last in it.

Maybe I'm missing something (more than likely), but don't we have a mega rich owner?

I think the right amount for us to spend would be around £4m in fees and 70k p/w in wages, giving a total wage bill of about £8-8.5m, and that's about what I expect too. Especially if we get the sell on fees for Walker and Maguire.

That being the case I expect Wilder to build a very good squad that will compete comfortably at that level. The best squad we've seen for a long time.

If the total playing budget would be about £13m then I still think that would put us within the bottom half budget wise, but not as low as 18th-20th.

But we don't know yet.
