Brave, but not too far removed from our own chairman and owners making bold statements recently.

What it does do is put pressure on the new manager and the new players. What boro did when they were last here was play good citing attacking football, then just seemed to go all cautious.
Best thing he could do would be to cap in hand to Karanka and offer him another go! But he won't of course.

New manager will be foreign is my bet.....Marco silva??

Wigan's chairman said before the start of last season that they would smash the league with 100 points, they ended up with 80 odd but still went up as champions, so can work out.

Though McCabe's fighting talk of Europe in 5 years infamously didn't xd
He didn't say which 5 years.

Steve Gibson the Boro chairman has said:

"The club is well run and we're in a good financial state so we will have more resources going into next season than any other Championship club.

"We will smash the league next year. We want to go back up as champions."

One auto place gone then or is talk cheap?

Discuss…..

I've already tipped them.

Gibson will get results and will back his manager, lets hope he is as good as McCabe at picking 'em.

Experience has taught me, that it's always advisable to keep the gobbing off, until after the deed is done.

Just heard the interview on 5-Live and I swear he never said "we will" do anything. He said "we want to" both times.

So it's less hubris and more a call to arms. Fair enough.

Loads of time for Gibson, top Chairman, but he's in danger of looking like a tool if they don't finish top 2.

Come on Gibbo, this is a tough league, Aitor's been sacked, Agnew is clueless, your entire season is based on you making the right managerial appointment.

No team that relies on Rudi Gestede upfront is going to piss this League.

Rid Getede is class I'd definitely swop Hanson for him .
The rest of the team apart from Negrado isn't up to much . I'm sure Negrado will be on his way somewhere else , that's for sure.

They have (at the moment) Bamford and Negredo, and Gestede is probably Championship material.

Got a lot of time for Gibson, not gonna wish him well tho' ....... :)

Karanka was an odd sod

Gestede has a 1-in-6 scoring record in the last 2 seasons. We need better than that.

Bamford just scored his first goal in 2 years and gestede is mid-table Championship at best. negredo might be on his bike, so with the money they have from their 1 season in the PL I expect to see a completely new front line at Boro. This, along with a new management structure, will bring a lot of uncertainty to the overall set-up. It won't all go Gibbo's way.

Piggy Peason must be in with a shout ............

With the chairman , parachute payment and Pearson as manager I would say Boro were certs to go straight back up . However the more I think about it , is Pearson past his sell buy date , like we had with Clough and Adkins .

The bloke didn't do much at Derby .

Does Wilder now set the benchmark . Does for me.

Middlesboro have punched way above their weight for over 20 years

Probably the most depressed area of the Country
Not a big club
Not a particularly large fanbase
Not a marketable club or a sponsors dream

And the players that they've signed over the last 20 odd years has been astonishing.
It just shows what can be done with the right people at the top, like Gibson

Also been in a European final and a couple of domestic finals, I agree they've overachieved but good luck to them, Their catchment area (Teeside) has quite a large population. I would imagine lots of folk from Darlington, Hartlepool, parts of Durham, York and North Yorkshire follow them. Stockton has a large population.

Always remember a quote attributed to Juninho, Brazilian international about M'boro " nobody told me it would be dark at 4pm in the afternoon". M'boro, a long way from Copacabana.
Looking forward to next season, what's not to like about Teeside on a cold winters night for an away game

Gestede cost them £5m! Where we gonna get £5m from to bid on him? From what I've seen of him, he's no better than Tom Elliott, and he's available for free!!!!

I think that's because Pearson is two sandwiches short of a picnic and the board at Derby thought that success with Pearson wasn't worth the psychiatrists fees.

Sorry Nigel if you're reading this ( still lives locally I believe)

Personally I would love Shteeve to get the gig, his post match interviews are comedy gold.

"Smashing this league" will depend on two major factors;
1. Who the manager will be. I remember having one of the biggest budgets when we came down only to let an alco piss the lot up the wall.
2. It depends if the pigs are still in the championship or not. Remember this is a far tougher league than any of us can possibly expect the unclean keep reminding us. If they are still here only the play off spots will be up for grabs before a ball is kicked

Boro will be in or around the top places as I can't see them losing too many of the core of the team that got them up , yeh will depend on whose on the gaffers seat I dont think it'll be Agnew . PS getaway from Boro & Redcar and some nice places - Yarm etc worked & been out around there

They are my favourites for promotion personally. They have an incredible squad and could even afford to lose one or two. The one thing they have to get right is the managerial appointment. They need someone a bit more attack minded as their goal scoring record was shocking this year despite their wealth of attacking options. Defensively they're solid.

I would have them and Aston Villa as my top two at the moment but let's see what everyone does in the summer.

What hes got to remember before he believes they will smash it is aston villa & the 80m spent to come 12th

Adama Triore (or however it's spelled) was their best player by a mile in the Hull game. Seriously very very quick, and full of tricks. Just needs a Manager to get a grip of him and get his work rate consistent.
He will tear the championship a new one if he doesn't leave them.

But for me, I don't see Villa being anywhere close unless they have a very good transfer window. Sunderland Leeds and Hull the same.
Reading are expecting to lose most of their players if they don't go up and Pigs will change manager if they don't go up.

If Udders fail I see them being much the same, while the rest are much of a muchness.
If Wilder really gets some backing and we can pull off some transfers of the success he did last time we could be up there you know

Season ticket renewals are not at the level he expected then.

I tell you what fellow Blades boro won't be looking forward to coming to the Lane. Added incentive for Nathan Thomas (Hartlepool) to turn em inside out on the wing. Maybe just maybe they won't know what hit em
