They always say to save the best till last...

Porter and Cresswell well both miss out, cos what they lacked as players they gave us great moments and 100% every week.

I've gone for Paynter. At least Sammon had a decent start for us and Higdon clearly wasn't fit so I can forgive him, just a little anyway.

Paynter was utterly woeful from start to finish.

Conor Sammon has absolutely no excuses. Shocking in every department.

I went with Forte.

He did fuck all with us the first time round and fuck all the second time round.

This was more difficult that midfield and defenders because they are all good candidates, went with Sammon as I associate him with Adkins and last seasons' debacle. Paynter was garbage but didn't have as many opportunities to 'shine' as Sammon did.
Honourable mention to John Cofie who I'm surprised to see not make the shortlist, although only a loan so might explain it.

Can't pick loanees or over-promoted kids, so it's either Higdon or Sammon.

And I can't separate them. One was a fat joke and the other a bloke who just looked like a footballer.

Had to be the Higgopotamus for me. I've known Margaret Thatcher turn quicker and she 'was not for turning'.

With the exception of P'boro away, Sammon was atrocious.

How he's made a decent career out of the game is beyond me.

Conor Sammon. The name still makes me shudder.
Saw him "play" for Kilmarnock at Celtic last month. It brought horrible flashbacks.

what about john cofie ??? or marlon king !
Surely they're not as bad as any of these? Cofie was shit but at least he scored a couple of absolute crackers in a short period of time!

Marlon King was the least likeable United player.

And yet nobody amongst the chattering classes, the Twitterati and the celebrity pontificators batted an eyelid when we signed him. A man with a criminal record that would make Charles Bronson blush.

Goes to show how a media shitstorm can influence things.

Why hasn't someone mentioned Ched? After all he was responsible for costing us promotion according to some on here

Higgopotamus by a nose.

Sammon ran him close, though. Not that it was a very fast race.

Higson for me can be spared, hell even removed off this list. Why? His two late goals against MK Plastic were priceless in our superb run in the league cup

None of the others even came close to what he achieved

No one's mentioned Will Hoskins. Remember him anyone?

No?

Precisely!

Sammon was terrible, and Ironside was a nesh donkey, but I've never hated any United player as much as I hated Forte after the Carlisle game in April 2013. Combine that display with his performance against Crawley and he got Wilson fired almost single handedly.

whereas hammond was easiest decision ive made all year this was quite difficult all 6 were utter dreadful but some had good moments on or off pitch

I went for paynter as he really was the worst of the lot. As proved when he left us & was sat on hartlepools bench

as sammon was terrible how he was a championship player is beyond me but at fleetwood the chant sammon hes better than cod, almost redeemed his crapness.

higdon did well the 1st few games until he fell off a cliff. Remember Keith Edwards joking that he could he do a better job in 1 of his final games under adkins in JPT

Taylor was good at this level as he proved at afc wimbledon also he hamstrung by weir. As noone came out of that well

Forte & ironside. I think you cant blame them because that was just cost slashing that went on post that failed 1st attempt to bounce back & they had plenty effort but little talent

& im glad porter wasnt included because talent alone he was crap, but as the years past i grew to have a soft spot for him, espically after stevenage then all the goals in that fa cup run & in the final years he had a great knack of getting a goal when we needed it

Fascinating debate, one that University Professors could mull over for years.

Marlon "c**t" King not on the list, yet almost all agree he is probably the worst human being to wear the red and white stripes. In History. Ever.

Billy Paynter - loan player, "disaster", "terrible", "crap", all nice one-word answers to describe his stay with us, but if we include loans, surely Marcus Bent on his second stint with us deserves an honorable mention. His nerve had gone, he looked frightened when the ball came to him.

Connor Sammon - as has already been said, how on earth has this lad managed to enjoy a well paid career as a "footballer"?
