And a first visit to the Riverside Stadium for me. They could become another yo yo side like Burnley and Hull. Hopefully Hull will make it three northern clubs going down from the Premier League rather than a long trip to Swansea.

I always found the Boro suporters to be quite unpleasant but I am looking forward to see how we do against them on the pitch, they will be strong in the Championship but I don't see them as nailed on for the autos.

Went to Ayresome Park in 1971, 1976, 1989 and 1992 but never visited Riverside. Must go next season! Same for Stadium of Light (went to Roker Park in 1989 and 1990)

The Stadium of Light is a fantastic ground, with a great atmosphere. One of the better new grounds. Hopefully we will silence the Mackems next season though. Great to be talking about visiting these grounds again.

One strange fact about boro is that I've been to Ayresome Pk to see them play Ipswich and the riverside to play Lazio.

But never the blades.

To be fair, the majority of them do live in Middlesbrough.

It's a boring trip to a boring place :)

We got there particularly early on new years day one season, to find most of Middlesbrough closed.

Middlesbrough is just a shit hole

Yarm is a nice stop for Boro away. It's a Boro stronghold but some decent pubs if you can there early enough.

Or there's always Stockton

Was there on New Year's Day back in the Prem. We'd just heard on the radio that we'd signed Ade Akinbiyi - and were all wondering.."Why?". Then Warnock puts out a side that set out to stifle a poor Middlesboro team and we lost. I look forward to going there again with an attack-minded manager in charge and taking 3 points off them.

Always a rough 'oyl Boro. I was also there in 1971, loads of bother. I went to their opening fixture at the Riverside, a friendly v Internationale of Milan, Emmerson ( Portugal) and the "Silver Fox", (Ravanelli) played for Boro, can't remember seeing Juninho. John Hendry came on as sub and proceeded to beat up the Eyeties before being substituted about 10 mins later at the Refs request. He signed for the Dingles later that week.

The area around the Riverside, was all duel carriageways and building sites, horrible, the ground, perm any from numerous others exactly the same

Sunderland .. one main road towards ground. Nightmare to get away from.
Boro .. Nowt around it. Reminds me of Stoke.

Both a lot less bother than Roker and Ayresome. But far less atmospheric if you prefer the traditional feel and "away" experience.

Same can be said of Hull when they join us !

Ayresome Park was always an experience ,he surrounding streets were full of scrapping ,the first layby on the A19 was the meeting place making sure everyone was present before heading off to Wetherby or Thirsk. Riverside is a soulless hovel ,we were well over an hour getting out last time. And smogmonsters sums the locals up ,Shaun of the dead is alive and well on Teeside.
Sunderland is total opposite ,a great ground loads of banter decent boozers only bad thing in my experience are Durham constabulary who are bell ends.

stadium of light is under a mile away from Roker ,there are loads of ways in and out if you know where you are going ,I have relations living within a mile in Seaburn ,a lovely place with a great beach and some top boozers. If you troll on on the coaches it is a bit bleak but by train or car Sunderland can be a great away game ,especially for a weekend.

They will be in the top two next year. They have the squad for it already. Just need to appoint a half decent manager.

Probably for the best.

Balham's maternal ancestors are from Redcar and Grand-lad Balham is a big Boro fan. Looking forward to this one.

Is it ever open?;)

I remember losing 6-0 at Ayresome park, 7 days after losing 5-0 at Leeds.

Happy days :(

Didn't we sign Akinbiyi in the Championship?

And in the Prem, weren't that poor side managed by Southgate?
