Ex players today...

I went to see Ipswich play Reading today () so there were 3 ex players on show in Stead, Quinn and Armstrong.

I'm not having a go at the Blades for getting rid of Stead (Beattie, Sharp, Henderson all ahead of him to start for us) but he had a great game today including scoring a great goal similar to what he scored against West Sham in 2007. He played well, passed the ball well but there again the ball was passed to him on the floor and NOT in the air like we are known to do.

Armstrong played ok...was subbed so Reading could bring on another midfielder and go 3 at the back.

Quinn had a great game and I wish he was still with us. He'd have done better in midfield than our midfield did today!

I saw Kabba scored for Blackpool and of course Hulse did. Gutted that we lost and I had to put up with Ipswich fans going on about how well Stead (and Quinn) played.

Me too. I predicted a 2-1 defeat with Hulse to score. I don't often predict us to lose but wish I'd have put a bet on it now!

It's all well and good them doing it for other teams, but pointless keeping them on the books if they can't do it for us.

I fear Quinny in our team yesterday would have had a game similar to his brother.... lost the ball too often then looked knackered when it came to trying to win it back.
Still, we'll never know

Great goal by Steady, just what he needed to get the new fans onside and also give him the confidence to prove what he can do. I think he is the kind of player to really suit the way they play the game and he will prove to be a great signing for them.

i did predict derby to win 2-1 and hulse last goalscorer and got 60/1 odds at paddy power. 305 quid in my pocket is some relief to the dribble i watched on the pitch

The fact that our squad players fit in elsewhere (we only hear about the good games) just underlines the quality of the existing squad. Yes we will lose some games but with the quality we already have in place I have to believe we have a good shot at the play-offs, if we add some real threat to the midfield I would be happy to put money on it.

For me, whenever A Quinn was in the side and lost the ball, he was always quick to get the ball back at any cost, hence the reason he got so many bookings.

But other times yes he was lazy at coming back. But I believe we needed an attacking presence in the midfield rather than the 4 defensive midfielders we started with.

I beg to differ, that was my main annoyance with him, he could be very very lazy off the ball.

I've seen Quinn about 4 or 5 times in an Ipswich shirt and he fits into their team well, gets forwards and creates. He set up their 2nd goal yesterday and they'll be more to come from him this season. A change of club has done him the world of good.

Jon Stead's loan move from Sheffield United has now become permanent with the striker joining Blues on a three year deal.

The paperwork was completed today after the former England U21 international agreed personal terms at the end of last week.

Town agreed an undisclosed fee with Sheffield on transfer deadline day but with the move rushed through with the player still at Bramall Lane, it was decided that the deal would initially be a three month loan until Jon had undergone a medical and agreed personal terms.

"It was always our intention to sign Jon on a permanent deal after we had agreed a fee with Sheffield," Town Chief Executive Derek Bowden told the Club website.

"But to avoid trying to rush things through at the last minute, with Jon having to race down here from Sheffield on deadline day, we agreed the loan. That gave us the proper time to discuss personal terms which have now been agreed."

The deal keeps Jon at Portman Road until the summer of 2011 and rounds off the perfect weekend for the frontman, who marked his debut for the Club with a superb opening goal in the 2-0 win over Reading on Saturday.
