Always liked Steadhino. When my lads were very small, and so he looked very big, they always used to say, "He's our Crouchy, Dad, isn't he ?". For this reason alone I always smile when I think of Jon Stead.

Memries of that goal that he bent inside the far post, at the kop end, from about 30 yards out on the South Stand side (against who ?) also always make me smile :) Proper goal, that one.

There's a few pics of him in Blades gear in that article.
There's a pic in the red and white stripes and a blond haired player in the background - I don't recognise - who is that?

Genuinely no idea, cant place him at all? its bothering me too, who the hell is he, we need someone off here to say "Look you daft buggers its....." but until then I am searching the web looking at passed player from the era but so far nothing :(

that took this off at a tangent, but glad we now know who he is.

right what was this about? oh yes steed, good lad and a decent enough player for us, and he is right about the Tevez saga, but the FA were never going to back us over the beloved wankers Wetspam...

Quoting myself (apologies), but only to ask if anyone has a better memrie of that goal than I do. Who was it against ??

The one I remember is his equaliser at Charlton. That was a great away day and as loud as I can remember an away end for the entire match. It was a quality strike and I really thought we were safe after that :(

Edit: just read the article and there is a picture of that exact strike :-)

I really liked Stead. No one expected much when he signed but he had a cracking debut at the Lane and the crowd immediately warmed to him. He then started to flourish in a partnership with Hulse. That partnership was going places, they looked great together with Hulse acting as the senior and constantly in Steads ear.

I remember Stead scoring against Fulham (I think) and he was going mad celebrating till Hulse grabbed him and said something in his ear. Stead then stopped celebrating and jogged back to halfway with a purposeful look. I loved it.

Many people also forget that in the Wigan game just after Stead equalised, he had a great chance on the volley. I am convinced that if he had not just nearly had his head taken off by the keeper when he scored and wasn't still disorientated, he would have buried the second chance.

I think I've spotted why Monty scored so few goals - in that last photo he's missing half his leg.

He's 100% spot on, a shameful day by the powers that be. We are on our uppers now, so on to next season and see where that takes us? You never know, could be the mightiest party ever.
