I ranted about this pork infested, abortion of a television show in the shoutbox earlier and I don't really have the time or energy to go into the details again BUT if anyone still thinks we are being paranoid please say so and I will make the effort to go over it a second time.
When they did finally get around to us and show us celebrating, they end with the obviously scripted snidey comment..'So Sheffield United return to the Championship after a six year absence, their next challenge will be to find a way to stay there.' WTF is that all about? No similar comments to Bolton in their coverage.

Have I missed it? Have we been the Sheffield team that flirted with with relegation to league one year after year since the millennium and went down twice, or did we just have one really bad season in the Championship and blow it?

They even had the barefaced cheek to suggest that Bolton should be looking to push for the top 6 next season or words to that effect. Honestly you couldn't fucking make it up.

My effort below...

Good morning,

After watching my team Sheffield United not win the league (because we had already done this 2 matches before) but get to 100 points yesterday dinner, i sat back last night hoping to watch some highlights of the match and the celebrations after, on the football on 5 goal rush.

Wow was i wrong, after the first half of the show which was a love fest and all things Bolton Wanderers, i carried on waiting to be then confronted by the play off hopefuls and relegation battle.

Surely the show was leaving the best team in the league till last (stats dont lie, which i will go in depth more later). Again was i wrong. In the middle of all the teams that have nothing to play for was the league winners.

Having listened how Bolton would surely go on to bigger and better things and be looking to aim for the playoffs next season with there crowds etc, i expected at least a few good comments about sufc, again wrong. 'Well done on 100 points they'll try not to get relegated' or something to that effect. Now if we look at the league table and stats I think your presenter or script writer may need to be fired!

So to the stats:
Sufc are 12 points ahead of Bolton in second.
Sufc top goalscorers in all 4 leagues.
Sharp top in all 4 leagues 30goals.
Avg attendance sufc 21,892
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Bwfc 14,934.
Sufc won the league with 100 pts scoring 3 goals in all last 4 matches.
5 players in efl team of year.
Jake wright unbeaten all season.

Now thats a few for you, im sure you will have someone who can get the full stats on why we are deserving of been champions of league one by such a margin. If not their is a small thing called google.

By not giving Sufc a fair appraisal on your show, you have just shown utter contempt and disregard for Sufc, Chris Wilder, the players and the fans. They have worked hard all season playing beautiful football and won the league by a country mile, to get a 10 second mention.

I hope you will address the issue. Not mentioning the above stats, the fact SUFC collected the trophy infront of 31,000 fans yesterday (the largest in league one all season) is nothing more than embarrasing.

not just channel 5 .. just got back in.. our lass (who knows nothing about football and as such represents a totally unbiased view)just asked me 'did they award the cup.. i was hoping it would be on tv.. noone showed it.. why are they going in about Bolton, i thought United won the league?? is it because they resigned that bloke'

someone just sent this one in:

To the Head of Channel 5:

We write in the strongest possible sense to complain about the pathetic coverage your channel has given to our team, Sheffield United, this season.

The show has been pathetic all year and we thought this was just general to all teams as we are in the 3rd tier of English football.

However, we were looking forward to the hour (45min) special last night, rightly believing that we would be offered considerable air time as champions of our division by a comfortable distance.

We were expecting that you'd give attention to Bolton who, at the start of play, still had something at stake and potentially, needed to win to be promoted.

However, we have had such a special season and are rightly disgusted that you have not given this the rightful attention our achievements have deserved, either yesterday, or throughout the season.

Surely, our achievements this season merit your cameras presence at our ground where we were presented with the Championship we richly deserved? I would like a sensible answer as to why your T.V. channel has failed to recognise our club, team and managers achievement.

To make it easier for you to comprehend, here are just some of our team and managers achievements:

  • Hitting a points target of 100 points
  • Champions of the league by 14 points
  • 30 goal striker
  • league 1 player of the season
  • Largest crowd in that division yesterday – 31,003
  • Over ½ a million people through the turnstiles this season
  • several players in league 1 team of the season including 5 in one team of the season
  • Top of our league since New Years Eve and remaining there
  • Jake Wright, seemingly unwanted by Oxford United, never finishing in a losing team for SUFC
  • Undefeated in last 17 games, including 7 straight victories to the season end
Finally, We have to mention the phenomenal achievements of our manager, Chris Wilder:

  • 199 points over 2 seasons
  • Manager of League 2 and league 1 team Champions with considerable ease in successive seasons
  • Manager of 2016
Surely, your cameras should have pictured more than a flavour of our celebrations?
At least on par with Bolton, who after all, finished in 2nd, coming some considerable distance behind us?

All, I can say again, is that this season we have conducted our footballing business in style, it is a pity Channel 5 has not.

We await your comments and not just a token reply on this matter.

We will continue to investigate this matter, until we receive a suitable explanation.

I believe this subject should question the production team for this show, who should explain the reasoning behind their coverage.

Yours Faithfully,

They even had the barefaced cheek to suggest that Bolton should be looking to push for the top 6 next season or words to that effect. Honestly you couldn't fucking make it up.

On Parkinson - 'He will be set a target of the play-offs next season'.

On the Blades 'There next task will be to find a way to stay in it [the Championship].

Un-fucking-believable.

On the other hand, fuck 'em.

What did he say? He looks like the most smug man in Britain

It was over a year ago but the gist of it was George said that nothing I had stated to help improve that (awful) show had not already been said, he refuted my claims that they don't rehearse and suggested I couldn't do a better job (I strongly disagree with that).

I also believe he's a Weeds fan.

They've already done us for weeks given we've been up and champions for weeks. Put simply, we were not the biggest on the billing yesterday because Bolton had promotion to play for ffs.

Why people are getting upset over this baffles me. We had our time in the spotlight weeks ago.

It's obviously some nob or nobs infesting the production team. I don't think they wing it, I recon it's scripted. Remember in their first ever show last season some git threw our away kit on the floor and made a joke about it?

I think we should keep on C5's case, some probably have no idea what's happening.

Channel 5, pah. Just wait until you watch Look Leeds tonight. It will be all about those fuckers missing out on the play-offs rather than us winning the league and (yeah I'll say it) the pigs making the play-offs.

Is anybody like me, absolutely fuming?
35 minutes on glorious Bolton, 20 seconds on 100 points 30 goals Billy.

I'm still drunk, was looking forward to the highlights, but tonight I know why SBT uses such language!
Lets have some sort of inquest about this me owd Bladesmen n BladesWomen!
I never watch the programme. It's totally irrelevant compared to getting all the highlights, comments and feedback on this forum.

"It's The Media, It does what it wants" seemingly

Perhaps the best remedy for our minimal coverage issue is to find a way to create more: for ourselves, by ourselves. It is after all our Club?

As a Writer and film-maker I would dearly love to work for our 'Blades Family' in a Producer Writer capacity to create our own channel that incorporates and adds strength to what's already independently out there.Top of the list being the need for more in depth game coverage as pointed out by Silvio at the top of this thread.

More and more Blades are contributing on You Tube and other social media channels to great effect. How about we bring all that energy and passion together in one place.Perhaps (thinking out loud) Mr Biggs could help us or we could add to his show?.I would be happy to garner his thoughts.
What is obvious is that there are platforms in place so maybe all we need is to put them together on our own channel.

By pooling resources we could arguably make a regular show of our own, incorporating anything our fans wish to see so that we are no longer dictated to by the Corporate numpties whose default position is to let money and bias do the talking and screw what anyone else thinks. After all it will be argued by some that we footy fans are just a bunch of simpletons who like nothing more than to get sozzled before heading to our respective grounds to hurl foul language at anyone who dares have an alternative opinion. Pfft.

Rather than be a victim of their "Delusions of Grandeur" we ignore them and crack on with what we want.

Sheffield United have demonstrated this season that anything is possible given the right ingredients and we clearly have some incredibly capable contributers who have achieved so much because of their passion for all things Red n White.I see no reason why we cannot do the same.
My glass is always half full.If yours is too and you know anyone who has relevant experience or are simply driven by sheer enthusiasm and an instinct for feeding the needs of our "Family" let's take positive action.

We have a whole summer to devise something better for ourselves.Imagine tuning in next season and being able to "Fill up our Senses".
I already have a raft of ideas for content as I am sure many fellow Blades do. Let's face it we are not fans short of imagination.

I will drive it but need a busload of co-pilots so to speak, to help us find our destination whilst relishing the journey.Love to hear your positive thought please Blades. The emphasis on the positive.

Much appreciated. Kind regards.Paul

marvellous
Hi Silvio. Have you seen the Vlogs by Olli McQillin. He is undoubtably talented and could be a brilliant contributor to a Channel of our own as suggested in a reply to your original thread. After all these young guys are the future of our club .What better than to seek their opinions further and prove what a forward thinking bunch we are. With his agreement and parents permission of course.

How about a Blades Fan TV? :)

"That fuckin Desso was a waste of money!"

"Where is the game changing investment?!!!"

"What is with them bloody smoke bombs!!!!"

Yesterday was a game that for all intents and purposes didn't really matter. Yes, there were some minor nice-to-haves that we could aim for (100 points, 30 goals for Sharp etc), but the newsworthy stuff for football in general has been done, resulting from our marvellous season. We got plenty of coverage when we secured promotion and won the title – yesterday, the only stuff of note still to decide were the last relegation places, the playoff places, and biggest of all the last remaining automatic place. The Bolton game was inevitably going to get the bulk of the League 1 focus as a result.

The only gripe I have about the coverage is the suggestion Bolton will be aiming for the playoffs while we simply aim at staying up – which taken together is ridiculous to suggest.

Any links to the Vlogs? I might have seen some.
I have just been amazed- downcast by the poor commercial tv coverage, I have searched the net for my Blades fix and found a wealth of stuff out there, some fantastic, some average......
By all means point out the error, but surely there`s no need to be abusive .
(He's calling it to himself!)

Fine.

OK so the opinion is that C5 aren't giving us much coverage as they should do and barely any recognition on our achievements but so what what's new?

I never watch the show myself but I've noticed a pattern occurring here, why do we need a new thread about it every single week?? After every match day someone posts a new thread about it, well I say bollocks to C5 and to the rest of the media that may be biased against us no need to let it get to you - rise above it because the Blades are on their way back up the leagues and they'll have to take notice of us sooner or later so let's just quietly go about our business unlike the Pigs from across the City.

This bag of sh1te programme has been digging at us since it started. When we lost 4-0 to Gillingham under Adkins, it ran our game next to the Pigs - going on about contrasting fortunes (they had won) - and it was an absolute p1ss take against us.

It's only about a month ago they said Fleetwood could go up as champions - we were already pulling away from the rest of the pack. They virturally ignored us since we sat on top of the league - focussing on who was 2 and 3. It's laughable.

I think somebody said the producers are SWFC or WHU fans. I hope they lose the rights soon and it moves to another channel.

I read somewhere all the production team are West Ham fans. Very professional attitude to covering football, let your own personal supporter views decide on editorial content. I bet if we had been relegated yesterday we would have had more coverage
