Thanks for the info. Coming across from Liverpool so will bear it in mind. I'm leaving at 8:30 so should have enough time. Utb

That's right they roll into Fox Valley late afternoon but they don't come down anywhere near the A57 so the Snake should be ok as an alternative

I need to get back to Liverpool for a flight in the early evening. I plan to travel my usual route via glossop and past Stockbridge. Will this event cause me a problem?

If it's an issue just use the snake.

Don't know the way. Do I just follow signs for glossop?

Instead of driving straight on towards the woodhead, hang a right through glossop and follow your nose pal, plenty of signs and even satnavs work out that way! ;)

Train from Manchester airport to Sheffield city centre 1.5 hours

Stocksbridge bypass unaffected... the entrance to fox valley will be closed to traffic so that could be a problem on the roundabout, I'd go snake pass..

Snake pass, no brainer surely? Just try not to let your head explode when (and it is when) you get stuck behind some dangerous bastard who won't go above 30mph.

Didn't know the stage was finishing in Stocksbridge. Might go and see it, would be easy to do due to our early kick off.

Get on the A6 at Stockport to Chapel en le Frith, turn left to Castleton, through the Hope Valley,Bobs your Uncle,Fannys your Aunt.

There is an even quicker more direct way through Wilmslow,Pott Shrigley,Whalley Bridge

Ordinarily yes but it's a Sunday so trains are shite before 1pm. Worth £80 taxi to see us finally lift silverware. Just praying for no delays something Is bound to go wrong I know it connecting at Heathrow so asking for trouble

Reckon that's about £1.73/year over my watching 'em, worth every penny.

Been queuing on the bypass from M1 towards Stocky today due the to the lycra boys.

Tomorrow will be madness.
Yeh it's going to be a nightmare tomorrow for anyone wanting to get around Stocksbridge. Thankfully the buses are running in the morning so we can still get into town.

I'm not into cycling at all but I wouldn't mind seeing it, the place is looking fantastic at the minute and it's going to be buzzing tomorrow, there's absolutely no way I'm missing The Blades lift that trophy though!

If I return to Liverpool via the snakes pass ( do I just follow signs for Glossop?) will I avoid the road closures? I know that's 2 questions but I'm from northern Ireland and don't know the area, usually just taking the obvious route between Liverpool and Sheffield.

I just don't see what the appeal in watching some men play out on their bikes is.

And what's the "de" all about? It's a tour of fucking Yorkshire, it should be called the Tour of Yorkshire.
The language of road cycling is French.
The Tour de (or du more accurately) Yorkshire owes it existence to the amazingly successful Tour de France grande depart 2014 which of course was held in gods county.
Gary Verity as CEO of welcome to Yorkshire , who persuaded the TDF to come to Yorkshire, wanted a legacy event to keep showcasing the counties tourism.
Christian Prudholme director of the TDF was astonished at how 'sexy' Yorkshire was and
so the TDY was formed. It has grown and grown, with live TV coverage, bigger names competing, and equal prize money for men and women.
Womens racing especially has benefited with now the very riders/teams in the world attending.
There are moves to try increase the number of days of the event and/or have equal stages for women.

It will develop into a significant race on the calendar and the biggest race held in Britain. It will grow and grow in prestige and start attracting many of the top classics riders. The crowds will always be good and the terrain will always make it exciting and difficult. No doubt it will be excellent for Yorkshire too, it will bring a lot of exposure.

From Sheffield... pick up signs A625 to Castleton... travel to Foxhouse, turn left after pub towards Grindleford.... then at crossroads >>
Head west on the A623, Stoney Middleton, Eyam (is a diversory location), Peak Forest... towards Stockport.
Pick up the A60 West from Stockport and you'll miss out all of the Snake area(Glossop, Tintwistle, Hyde, M67).

Agree. Although I'd turn left just before Fox House and cut down through Frogatt Edge to Calver crossroads, then head up the A623. But there's virtually nothing in it.

The simple way to find the Castleton road is to get onto Ecclesall Road and just keep going until you're out of town.
