I am a mild mannered person. I wouldn't go so far as to say "meek" - but over the years I have mellowed into a reasonable sort of chap. Not one prone to outbursts of rage or violence - not unless I am severely provoked.

But there is something about RS Jonny and his horrible flat Leeds accent and his constant talking over the top of people during the phone-in and his inability to know his stuff that really boileth my pith.

He was at his nauseating best again last night. The subject was to do with us signing new players for the Championship and he refers to it as "needed to stay in that division". So, that's your view then Dear Jonny boy is it? That we are going to struggle in the Championship and new signings will be needed to help us stay in that division? I think you are going to be surprised.

Then the subject got around to the inevitable Chedwyn. And Jonny tells us he's never cut it at Championship level. Well, it's true that in his first two seasons with us, in the Championship, he wasn't prolific in the goal-scoring department, hitting 4 goals in 36 games in the first season and 9 goals in 35 games in his second season. But that was a team in decline wasn't it? One that got relegated at the end of his second season. You have to take that into account. Also, in his previously spell in the Championship, whilst on loan at Norwich, he scored 10 goals in 28 games. That's better than a 1 goal every 3 games average. Highly respectable! I know the Norwich fans would have liked to have kept him.

Then sensible David from Bolton phones in and as usual, he'd got something worthwhile to say, but what it was we'll never know because RS Jonny jumps in mid-sentence and finishes off what he thought David was going to say for him.

I actually think both Andy Giddings and Rob Staton do a good job on that show. They are knowledgeable and give people a fair go to express their opinions. But that Jonny guy is a complete amateur, who sounds horrible, doesn't know his stuff and is hopeless at conducting a phone-in conversation because he wants to monopolise it or second guess what someone is saying.

FFS - get rid of him and let's have Paul Walker back.

I'm so glad I don't listen to radio piggy Sheffield anymore!!. They've always had a thing against us going back years when I lived in Sheffield and was an avid listener!!. Paul walker was excellent but I'm sorry to say that statton and giddings are clueless and delusional idiots as they proved on Tuesday!!. Up the blades.

I can't say I've heard everything he's said this season, but he's not looked ill-informed to me – certainly not in interviews. He also hasn't suggested this season that McNulty should play alongside Clarke rather than Sharp, or that our wingback formation needed changing because teams had apparently found it out. (Unlike others I could mention...)

On Football Heaven I prefer him to Staton, who gives the impression of loathing that part of the job – which given the regular callers is understandable.

We could apply the same argument to him this season. Scored 7 in a team in decline while getting his match fitness back?
Plus, don't forget we had a certain B Sharp playing in the championship before. His record was pretty pants too I recall. But oddly, proved he could score there with other sides....hmmmm....something to do with the manager and tactics deployed at the time me thinks??

Never listened to it as I am nowhere near Sheffield. But if it's that bad, just don't listen to it. It's not going to change, so why bother. It's certainly bad enough seeing some of the weird and wonderful opinions on here without listening to the same loud minority spouting their nonsense on the radio. Normal, well rounded and reasonable folk wouldn't get on the show because they aren't controversial enough. It's like the Kyle show....where do they find those low life fucktards of society? Your average working families don't appear on there a right lot do they.

However, he did score 10 goals in 20 games for Norwich when he was 19...in the Championship.

All this business about how 'Ched has never done it at Championship level...'

How many 'experts' at the beginning of this season were warning us that Chris Wilder had 'never done it at League One level.'?
10 goals in 20 games at Norwich hints he can score at that level.

And if anyone can get the best out of him, it`s Wilder.

I don't get all the radio Sheffield hate, of course sometimes they will get somethings wrong or anoy, but that's life, you get some callers coming on that are anoying as hell but what can you do. Just switch off. Overall I think the coverage is very good. Just try and listen to some other local radios for there coverage, it's no better, and probably worse.

it is even more strange as his first loan from man city was at norwich where he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances in the championship
not too shabby

and he scored as a sub for man city in a 6-0 win over pompey in the prem

Tried to say this on a different thread...both him and Sharp struggled in Blackwell's teams, but Ched was decent at Norwich and under Wilson, while Sharp flourished in other teams and has now had his best spell in three with United in a footballing team.
I still listen to RS,but not as often as I used to...I actually thought JB was decent when he first came on,but seems to be going down hill bit lately....I put Talk Sport on at work a lot,and while listening to Jim White's show on Tuesday when they were going on about Newcastle's promotion...I nearly spat my coffee out driving up the M11 when on comes that know all Mick the Rawmarsh Pig...He must spend his life phoning radio shows, can't get away from him,and I hear the Pitsmoor pillock is now polluting the airwaves on 5 live ffs.

I listened to Radio Sheffield last night i just think the presenter likes to play devils advocate likes to stir up the debate, personally i am not that interested in the presenters its the fans who make the show what it is, yes some of them are complete mickey takers however some of them are very sensible and offer good debate. why do we need to be so precious who cares if there is a Wendy bias, the Blades are on the up every fan who has been this season knows we are going to cause a few upsets next season

let them mock let them talk us down who cares

UTB

A few on here as well mate .
And that was after only 4 games .

I listen to it , and to be honest once you sort the wheat from the chaff ,
B the B , and pitsmoor pig ,
I think from someone living outside Sheffield it gives me information i dont normally get .
Its not perfect , but not as bad as The Stir

Didn't we finish 8th in his first season but he didn't cut it on the pitch, as you say we were relegated the 2nd season which he was part of and still didn't pull any trees up. So I think there is an arguement to say he might struggle 6 years on in the Championship.

At the time we exited the Championship, people seemed happier to judge him on what they'd seen of him with us rather than his time at Norwich nearly ten years ago. Nobody was really talking about his time at Norwich – it's bizarrely now seen as the defining indicator of what we can expect of him. Even without everything else that has happened in his career since then, it seems a stretch to suggest that's a good indicator of his current suitability for the Championship.

I caught a little bit of that, sounded like he was having a full on row with someone .what was he on about the thick self absorbed virgin ?

It's clearly an extension of this Evans obsession never had it or understood it. James Beattie first spell at the Lane red hot 2nd spell complete disaster.

Neither do I same with the Star its 50/50 coverage with us and Wendy.
Its only Local Radio and Newspaper.

I respect everyone's views on here and the OP but I don't agree. I occasionally ring in the show as I did when the Ched debate broke and have often talked to Jonathan Buchan. Always thought he is very well mannered and allows the caller to talk. I've met Andy Giddings, Seth Bennett and Paul Walker once - all by fluke - and all three loved chatting football and were very polite too. I think we're spoilt by Radio Sheffield and quite frankly we have more threads on why Radio Sheffield are biased than we have had re Ched signing. Yes Rob Staton is a Wednesday fan, Paul Walker is a United fan - at least historically and surely they are allowed an opinion from time to time and if we don't agree with it then ring up or say something on their twitter feeds.

Also Jon Buchan said when asked a while back that he isn't from Leeds. West Yorks yes but not Leeds and if he supports Leeds I really couldn't give a monkey.

As for Radio Sheffield breaking the news re Ched. Its their flipping job to report transfers. We constantly say Radio Sheffield are clueless and then when they do report a transfer ahead of the game we criticise them too. We're already promoted and champions what's the problem?! It was clearly leaked by someone at the club, wither to a friend of a friend etc or direct from someone who rang Radio Sheffield etc. Who knows. I'm just pleased we're signing Ched again, he is a quality player and I'm delighted for him that he has a chance to put the past behind him. UTB

I think they were on about they thought Newcastle would have ran away with the League due to budget and stuff...Then he came on and told them they were speaking rubbish, ranted on,only to then contradict himself and say that at the beginning of the season he had Newcastle down to win it.....something along those lines anyway.

To be fair , the Norwich inference is more a rebuttal of the accusation that Ched has NEVER done anything in the Championship .

Furthermore , it can also be quite plausibly reasoned that no one showed anything during our two seasons in the Championship prior to relegation , not just Ched .

Now whether or not he will do anything in the Championship this time around is the 64000 dollar question . On the face of it , you'd have to conclude that no , he won't . He's been beset by injury since his return and just seven goals in a season doesn't bode well .

On the other hand however , just look at Paul Coutts . No one doubted he had talent but let's be honest , he was plagued by frustrating niggling injuries and didn't seem interested . His performances for us were mainly very poor and the overwhelming majority of us , whilst recognising that he had talent , didn't see any future for him at all . Now look at him ! That's Chris Wilder's superb management .

In sum , if we had any other manager here right now , and I do mean ANY manager , I'd have been steadfast in my objection to us signing Ched Evans . But with Chris Wilder at the helm things are differerent . If he himself thinks this is good business I'm with him all the way .

Maybe this smacks of Bladey Bladeness and me blindly supporting the manager's decisions to some . But just look at what CW''s done , not talked about , what he's actually achieved . If anyone can reignite the undoubted talent Evans has its Chris Wilder .

Apologies for the thread hijack , I know it's devoted to RS

I think finishing 8th in the Championship would suggest a fair number performed at a decent level, it's just Evans wasn't one of them and didn't improve a great deal in our relegation season.

Finishing 8th with the squad we had at the time was a significant underachievement .

By the same token , which players did improve the following season . Name one player who did ?

Was it down to the players under performing or the the manager merry go round that developed into the club becoming a joke or a mixture of the two who knows, The main point is CE as a player didn't pull any trees up in the 2 seasons in the championship, don't quite get why supporters think 6 years on he will all about opinions.

Furthermore , it can also be quite plausibly reasoned that no one showed anything during our two seasons in the Championship prior to relegation , not just Ched .

In 2010, Cresswell and Henderson both scored 12 league goals and played less games than Evans. Jamie Ward scored 7 league goals in less games than Evans. Henri Camara also scored 4, in less games than Evans. Steven Quinn also scored 4 and was almost ever present. That bunch of loons who think Monty was a decent player were constantly telling us how well he was playing.

The following season, I will grant you, was a shambles.
