Bottom line is I don't know. At this moment in time there are likely <10 people on the planet that actually know the true story behind this.

And if you think the real truth, whatever that might be, will ever come out regarding this signing, assuming it happens, you might be disappointed.

Don't listen to him IIYB, he gets the info from a horse...

Can't believe we would pay that ,Wilder said the princes pants have been lowered a few times and wouldn't happen on his watch.500k for Evans would be pinching money Wilder surely wouldn't agree to that.
I wouldn't mind him coming back but he has to show the levels of fitness required to be worth even half of 500k ,he, been away a long time and his body may not be able to sustain the fitness levels required,
there will surely be a clause in any contract for it to be cancelled.Otherwise the prince and McCabe will have there genetals on show again. ( metaphorically speaking of course )

Who's to say that 80 appearances and 40 goals might be required before the fee even gets to250K and120 appearances and 65 goals before 500K is paid over?

Everyone stop getting yer knickers in a twist.

Wilder knows what he's doing and whatever he does will be for the good of The Blades with their best interests foremost.

Christ almighty there's some fucking drama queens on here. If he's shit he will end up a squad player, but, he might actually hit the ground running under wilder like all the other scapegoats from last season. In wilder I trust.

And we can all start a new chant for the drama queens "Marching on together"

That should go down well.

The press are reporting that we hope to complete a deal before the end of the season

How's that work when he's under contract and the window is closed?

And as for the £500k, I'm hoping that is including add ons not plus add ons

I guess you can sign a contract with a club and player at any time but his registration can't be transferred until the window is open.

So until the registration is transferred the player can't play for his new club, with only one match left, it doesn't matter that Ched can't play until next season.

Quite possibly.......but, if what comes out isn't received with the transparency the supporters deserve then there may well be the beginnings of a problem that will impact negatively, and in ways that we may make a thread like this seem like a mild disagreement.

Assuming we are keeping Sharp, Clarke & Hanson I'd be much happier if that money was spent on loaning a couple of pacy strikers from the PL. Does Evans give us anything we don't already have?

As you suggest Grumpy, there may be a middle ground where this is concerned, if so then we'll soon discover where the truth lies. I just concern myself about Wilder not having the first and last word on any player being signed.

To be fair , he'll never have the final word on player signings the board of Directors will . I agree with your sentiment about always having the first word on them though .

Despite the Ifs and Buts, no one will care if he scores in his next game for us, such is football..

yed some of us don't think the signing has the upside.

Well unlucky.
You are a supporter, not the manager. You don't pay his wages either.
As with all managers past and present, it makes no difference what you or I think,

The manager it seems believes he will be a good signing, and Wilder has done more than a little to justify the respect of seeing how it pans out.
He's not actually even signed yet, never mind played a game. Have some not learned anything from this season and their premature remarks?

A credible partner for Sharp, at long last ??

Maybe :)

The thing is, the more you think about it, what is £500k on a striker these days?

I bet if you went to a conference club to sign there best striker, they'd be asking for £500k or even more.

You don't get much for your money in the Championship these days especially for a striker, so although it seems a lot on the surface, it's fuck all these days!
Agree with you on that but a player who's been out of the game for years and struggling for fitness, would you pay 500k
Got to be some clause to get out of a deal if the player can't keep fit.
As I said Wilder stated how the club have been robbed in recent times,I don't think he would like to be party to another robbery

IMABLADE!! Don't sound much like a blade to me duck??
And at 17, you must know so much!! Can you even remember him playing for us!!??
You should be looking at what Wilder and Knill have done this season, and then think, if your ipad or phone doesn't make that to hard, that if they want Evans at the club, there must be a reason!?
I'm pretty sure they have a bit of an idea as to what they're doing, JUST LOOK AT THIS SEASON!!!!

BBC Sport have felt the need to mention this story 4 times on Twitter today.

Not even the hype for the AJ fight is overshadowing this.

Injuries happen, there are never any guarantees.

He's played 29 times this season and he's hardly Jack Wilshere! I'm not too concerned about his fitness personally, well no more than any other signing.

Between the sky and the deep blue sea as they say......you're right, he somehow regains something close to his previous form and bingo, we have a great signing, and that's the nature of a business that more often than not is not simply brutal but shows a distinct lack of a moral compass.

My point was never about morality though, it concerned where this story actually began and who was the person responsible for wanting Evans back at the club. My previous posts are explicit in the dynamics as I see it, I just hope for this club's present and future that Wilder was the instigating force behind this move.

Do you seriously think Wilder would stand for a player being signed without his say so?

Do you seriously think McCabe would risk losing his best manager in years, just to sign Ched? Who do you think he values most at SUFC? Wilder or Ched?

Agree with all of that.

After 2 and a half years inside, I bet Ched is one of the most professional players in the world! No way will he be any problems in the dressing room.

There is no way McCabe would be stupid enough to piss off the best manager he has had in years. Why would he do that just to sign one player?

Cos he does what he wants?

There are many morally dubious aspect to our beloved sport, this one is also dubious. I can't say I was particularly keen on the idea, but now it seems to be happening I am curiously indifferent. Indeed, there is a part of me that always believes in giving a person another chance. I could not agree more with you and hope that Wilder as a minimum is comfortable with the situation. And Wilder being as strong and determined character as he is, I believe we can assume he is.

And a price of "up to £500K"? I think we need to grasp that we are being promoted to the Championship if we think that is expensive even for a player that has not played all season.

Too many ex pigs at Chesterfield for them not to have leaked it.

Their short reign at the top is coming to an end and they know it, we know it.

Wilder knows it
Billy knows it.

Ched Evans for half a million or Jordan Rhodes for £10 million.
