If this has been commented on elsewhere, apologies in advance.

My question is, if this has been instigated by Chris Wilder then there's nothing else to add, end of, I'll support our manager's choice of player.

But.....if it's been initiated by our co-Chairman, Kevin McCabe, then this puts an entirely different perspective on the signing of Evans.

It crossed my mind that McCabe may have felt regret or remorse over the previous attempt to sign Evans, and having broken his promise to Evans that he would once again become a Blade because of the dramatic PR own goal the club scored, has McCabe taken it upon himself to override the chain of command when it comes to who we sign, namely Wilder, and attempted to make good his previous promise to Evans that the club will sign the player. If this should be the case then McCabe has allowed his judgement to be coloured by vanity and a disregard for his manager.

But as I said to begin with, if Wilder is the person who has told the board that he wants Evans then I'll support our manager's decision. Still a lot to pay for a player who hasn't exactly set Division 1 on fire this season.
I'll put you out your misery.

Wilder rates Evans. Horses mouth !

£500k for a goal shy injury prone striker that has scored less fucking goals this season than our right back is not good value.

Could be a bit of both?

McC sticking to his word.

Wilder being happy to sign him and told don't worry about the fee, it won't effect your budget as I'm funding it?

Evans is a risk..

Hardly played in 5 years
Fans torn in two

What more do you want
What I would like / want is for our fans that come at this from the same sort of angle as you do i.e against it would be to give the club, manager and player himself the opportunity to prove you right before you go off on one.

That's all. In Tufty I trust.

Can't be arsed to read another ched marathon. The club have not said a word on this. Those questioning timing take it up with radio pig they broke the story on a day when it was our promotion special:rolleyes:read into that as you wish they really are pig scum

I firmly believe wilder, knill and his fitness team Can get ched back to his best. If they do we have signed a top striker for peanuts in today's market.
Evans has been backed by the majority at united, wilder shouldn't miss out on a target because of the opinion of Ennis, loose women or any other fucker.

I hope there's substance to your comment, as I said, if Wilder has told the co-Chairman/Board that Evans is a player he wants then end of.

But KM has a track record of mistakes that act like a ghost that re-appears, so the next week or so will reveal exactly where the truth lies. At best someone is guilty of sharing secrets with the media, at worst we could be watching the beginning of a schism within the club that may have more profound ramifications that we can possibly realise.

I can just imagine all the nasty chants he will get at away games in the championship next season.
Bad press, injury prone, hasn't proven himself in the championship and couldn't hack it this season in league one. Whats the point?

As you suggest Grumpy, there may be a middle ground where this is concerned, if so then we'll soon discover where the truth lies. I just concern myself about Wilder not having the first and last word on any player being signed.

Can't believe we would pay that ,Wilder said the princes pants have been lowered a few times and wouldn't happen on his watch.500k for Evans would be pinching money Wilder surely wouldn't agree to that.
I wouldn't mind him coming back but he has to show the levels of fitness required to be worth even half of 500k ,he, been away a long time and his body may not be able to sustain the fitness levels required,
there will surely be a clause in any contract for it to be cancelled.Otherwise the prince and McCabe will have there genetals on show again. ( metaphorically speaking of course )

Christ almighty there's some fucking drama queens on here. If he's shit he will end up a squad player, but, he might actually hit the ground running under wilder like all the other scapegoats from last season. In wilder I trust.

Wilder was of course asked by Andy Giddings earlier in the season about Evans before our game in November.

When asked a direct question about him, Wilder noticeably speaks about Chesterfield having good players in general up front. He then singles out Jay O'Shea by name. [6:10]

He is then asked a direct question on whether he'd re-sign him. "Any player could join us at any stage of their career. I won't single anyone out" [8:10]

Bottom line is I don't know. At this moment in time there are likely <10 people on the planet that actually know the true story behind this.

And if you think the real truth, whatever that might be, will ever come out regarding this signing, assuming it happens, you might be disappointed.

The thing is, the more you think about it, what is £500k on a striker these days?

I bet if you went to a conference club to sign there best striker, they'd be asking for £500k or even more.

You don't get much for your money in the Championship these days especially for a striker, so although it seems a lot on the surface, it's fuck all these days!
