Why do people think Wilder would walk over this?

That is pure nonsense.

He has had his conviction overturned- don't see why all the drama, has S24SU turned into Loose Women? Seems so reading some of the foot stamping and outrage.
Wilder may walk if it isn't his decision. He has clearly stated on many occasions that he and he alone makes all final decisions on transfers. If he had this one forced on him risking all the hard work he had put in uniting the players, fans and club then who could blame him? He would still be held in high esteem by the supporters and would be snapped up immediately. Let's just all hope it was his decision and his alone

no - he couldn't hack it in the Championship when he was fitter and free from injury.

The season after he was the best player in league one by a country mile. If he didn't get sent down, he'd be playing for a better team than we are now.

Most accurate thread title ever.

For what it's worth, I'm more interested in this as a piece of footballing business than that 'other' narrative. If it turns out he's woefully out of touch and can't buy a goal come Christmas, then the club will have some serious egg on its face and relations with supporters and the rest of the sporting sphere will be irrevocably harmed.

If Wilder and his staff know precisely what they're doing and are one step ahead of us (which so far this season they have been) it could be a very shrewd move indeed, for reasons already outlined.

One thing's for certain: the lad is going to need to grow a very fucking thick skin over the summer.

This is a career ending transfer for Wilder. I could see us getting relegated now, and him getting sacked. Especially if we send 500k on league two rejects

According to BBC Sport its official:

I heard of this last week from the same source that told me years ago that Cresswell would sign a new player-coach contract and Lowton would go to Villa but laughed my head off at him, so subtly put it on the rumours section on here seeing if anyone had heard more, but good heavens did not expect this.

There is no moral issue in resigning him IMO. There is a footballing and financial reasons which makes this highly questionable. The timing is very regrettable as it could overshadow our well merited season celebrations.

Jeez FM I'm surprised you could even type given the heightened sense of excitement this news will have caused you! :D

Gathering speed now this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39697804

"League One champions Sheffield United are set to re-sign striker Ched Evans from Chesterfield.

BBC Radio Sheffield reports the clubs have agreed a fee of around £500,000.

Evans, 28, last played for the Blades in 2012 before he was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room in 2011 and sentenced to five years in prison.

That conviction was quashed and, following a re-trial last October, Evans was found not guilty.

Evans joined Chesterfield last summer and scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the relegated League One side this season.

He scored 42 goals in 103 league appearances in his first spell at Bramall Lane."

£500K is a mere drop in the Ocean when compared to the rest of the Prince's game-changing money promise. Don't forget - the aforementioned cash was dependant on us winning promotion to the Championship.
Also, don't forget, an unfit Ched, ran us ragged at Chezzy (until he went off injured).
Welcome home Ched. In Wilder We Trust.

He actually ran us ragged for the first fifteen minutes or so and was pretty much a passenger after that.

He transfer listed them because as a Blade he saw what we all saw last season, he didn't have to play them. I bet you he's glad he did now.

This is one of those, it could go either way. IF Wilder chose to sign Evans and it goes well he'll be glad he did sign him, if it goes wrong he'll be out of the door in no time.

Evans will have it put to him very simply, if he doesn't perform he'll be gone, he'll want to prove a point and he'll be hungry.

I saw a rumour thread earlier, Robbie Keane... which would you prefer? Robbie Keane on 10k+ or Ched Evans (500k upfront, but probably lower wayes and 7 years younger)

But he wouldn't have paid for them. Yes they proved him wrong but there was no other option as nobody wanted them including wilder. My grief about Evans is purely that he's done and this circus has split the fans already

Lol, so after everything that Wilder's said about protecting the club's finances as if they were his own, everything he's said about character...

We get shafted by a chancer who's out to leech as much money out of the club as he possibly can.

You obviously didn't go to matches. We were almost a 1 man team that season.
Even his fellow players voted him best player in the league.
I did go to matches home and away and he was great. A brilliant season until ...well lets not go there again.
But it was the First division and he was fitter and injury free. This is a backward step.

Well. Back to being Sheffield United again. There are no limits to our innovation in finding new ways to split the fanbase and to to fuck something up.

From 100 points, a trophy presentation and a celebratory piss-up to look forward to, to yet more talk of Ched Evans, Evans, Ched, Super Chedwyn Evans and a bit more Evans for good fucking measure.

Everyone has their own moral compass, but if someone can justify him playing for us without struggling even a little bit with it, they should be asking themselves some serious questions - starting with "what if it had happened to my daughter? How would I feel then?"

When did we stop thinking about people and just concentrate on football. He is well below the moral standards we should expect. And therefore I still won't believe it until he actually signs.

This was done years ago. I have a daughter, and it wouldn't have happened to her because she wouldn't have put herself in that position. It's not her style.
Moral standards in footballers....what exactly is ok, and what isn't?
Drugs, sex parties, alcohol, smoking.....yobbish lad behaviour!!
It's your run of the mill Rugby tour, student experience, 18-30 holiday, teenage school party, office Xmas party....where do we draw the line?

I give you...Jose Baxter, Billy Whitehurst, Paul McGrath, Bryan Robson, Micky Adams.....the list of folk attached to this club who have had their own demons is endless. Nobody is saying we have tro treat them as role models and heros....my point is, support the others if you don't like him.

I have to trust in Wilder, as long as Evans isn't been forced on him for some spurious legal reason

However i still say if it was Charlie Evans at say Shrewsbury in the same position we wouldn't have any interest in him

Treating a woman like what?
What did he do? The current facts are he slept with a female Ina threesome with his mate. Happens.
Not saying it's how I would carry on, but he's not committed any crime apparently.

King was years ago....he's been gone years, I hated the bloke, and have no issues with anyone having a go at him personally.....but he alone wasn't the club. But the over reaction....."Only just got over it"....Jesus wept. Get a grip.
As for don't rush back....the point is, that kind of support from fans won't be missed by the players. Ere are possibly 30 blokes gonna pull on that shirt in anger next season, and you and others are deserting the other 29 on the basis you don't like the fact he treated a woman like a cheap tart.
Whether she is or not is nothing to do with me and not my question to answer. I don't known her.

As I said, I'll be in New Zealand. I just won't feel inclined to spend the amount of time I currently do reading about it and trying to get up very early to watch it when the club clearly doesn't share my values. I don't want to be unable to cheer when someone scores and I couldn't bring myself to do it if he did, as I didn't when King scored his solitary goal.

It won't make a difference to the club if I did desert it. But it would make a difference to me if I didn't. In my mind he's guilty and deserved exactly what he got.

So instead of the players who gave us a tremendous season getting 'total' acknowledgement on Sunday, we're going to have to put up with loads of songs about Evans.

Sigh.

The exact reason why I'm against this signing.
If it were to happen, at least get the season out of the way. I don't understand why it comes out 6 days before the end of the season.
