There must be at least several hundred Blades who've been to more matches than me in say the last 30 years, despite me not needing 1 hand to count the home games I've missed in that time, whilst attending around 75% of away games at a guess.

In spite of that I've never once felt the need to be arsey towards fairweather, infrequent, sporadic, or new fans. There's a plethora of reasons why people don't go regularly. I don't go to as many away games as I used to due to family reasons, maybe 10-15 now compared to most years ago.

Calling United fans glory hunters makes me laugh no end. Bandwagon jumpers? Couldn't care less. More the merrier.

A kitchen with a urinal wouldn't surprise me. Southerners seem obsessed by toilets. I've been to houses where every bedroom has an en suite, with another 'main' bathroom and a downstairs toilet too. I guess it proves most southerners are full of shit.

I know, can't stand those bloody filthy indoor things, mi'sen. Mrs. H started buying proper paper for it too, after News of the World went belly up. Waste of bloody money imo.

I'd say a bandwagoner is someone who chooses teams or switches based on how successful that team is.

So if someone has always been a blade but only shows up to cup finals etc I'd say they're more 'fairweather' fans, not bandwagoners.

Agreed.

I know a few people who switched from Wednesday to us during my teenage years especially when they get knocked out of the Premier League.

First day back at Dinno Comp in January 1980. Loads of DirtyLeeds fans had brand new piggy scarves and were giving it large. There hadn't been that many real Wendys around prior to Boxing Day, but bloody hell their support grew overnight.

Made me hate them more than I did before, even the 'real' ones.
Made me hate DirtyLeeds more too.
And Manyoo and all the other tossers who weren't Blades.

We need as many fans through the turnstiles as possible. As many Blades fans as possible. Newcomers, returners, part timers as well as die hard followers. Whatever reason stops you wanting to go to every match come what may is up to you. I have been to over 40 away grounds over the years, season ticket holder for many years, circumstances changed, family money etc. I have to pick and choose which matches I can go to. Like anyone else I am going to choose the most important games if possible. Give the "bandwagon" fans a bit of warmth, let them join in the glory, hey presto you've got a few more season tickets sold. A few more kids being introduced to the Blades. A few old timers getting back to BDTBL . Band wagon? Glory Hunter? The more exciting the matches are, the more people want to go. I am so thrilled that my eldest now wants to go to as many matches as possible, rather than me dragging him to tedious non events. Keep this Bandwagon rolling, fill the ground, let the players now what a giant they have woken up.

Yep, that just about sums up how I feel, thanks for saving me the effort of all that typing JST:)

But surely only a problem if it causes a regular supporter to miss out (which shouldn't really happen anyway). Otherwise more the merrier init?
The only trouble with fans that very hardly attend fixtures if w
Football isn't church, it's an entertainment and why would someone choose a tuesday night game against Walsall for their only trip to the Lane all season instead of a big match?
Why Tuesday night? There's plenty of other games on a Saturday if they don't fancy a midweek game. Maybe it's just me but I believe in supporting my club through thick and thin and the bigger games are just the icing on the cake.

Whilst this topic has arisen ....
A friend has been a Man City season ticket holder for 15 yrs and they too have a similar loyalty point system to ourselves
He has absolutely no chance of getting an away ticket for any match as he doesn't have enough points .
Obviously the ones with the points are the only ones who can get tickets and gain more points , the whole thing is self fulfilling. Even if they can't go they buy tickets just to keep the points tally with the others
The result is that despite them having 30k supporters the same 3000 or so seam to be the only away fans so a generation of supporters have never been away

Could argue whether it's right or wrong but it's probably the same for many prem clubs and would be for us when we return

Our house in Sheffield has that. Southern shits... ;)

my next game will be the opener next season , back in August for a fortnight for a wedding so will attend any games between the 3rd and 17th

before returning to the sun
buit always there in spirit, its never left for a second , despite not being that enjoyable till Chris came

generally see 4 or 5 a season , but only 3 live this season mores the pity
thank god for fibre optic cable

I've just thought. The least matches I've attended in recent years was in the last premiership season due to family/work commitments and the inability to get a decent ticket for the some of the matches I was able to attend. As I went to more matches each season before this, and have been to more matches since, especially in the League 1 seasons, does this make me an ignominy hunter rather than a glory hunter?

I am a glory hunting bandwagon jumper! First matxh was Cec Coldwells testimonial and have been to lots of home matches each season since I was about 14. Failed a couple of seasons after the kids were born but never attended all the home games in a season since I was 20.

I watched us in Div 1, Div 4 and the Prem. I can't recall matches or moments but I love every red hot or freezing cold day or night.

I am 60 now and have bought my first season ticket (on the kop) ever. If you think I am a bandwagon jumper and glory hunter, I really don't care because I love my (our) Blades!

I don't mind anybody jumping on the bandwagon, but what I does grind my gears is if we start slow, they start gobbing off and tell everybody within earshot that this crap is the very reason why they stopped attending.

WE KNOW, WE WATCHED ATKINS's teams... AND HAMMOND!

My take on it is:

Supporters support the club, irrespective of wins, loses, who the manager is and which players you don't like, its like an addiction, its in the blood and you find the money to go because you'll sacrifice a few pints a week in the pub, a meal out etc for a season ticket.

Fans follow the club, even if they're not going regularly they're still following the results and going on's and care about how the club is doing.

Bandwagon jumpers dip out when the going gets tough and they're usually the ones moaning about loyalty points.

I see a " Bandwagon Fan " as those who say they support Man U or Arsenal but live nowhere near the clubs. The giveaway with these types is that they swap so called alligience at will.

As for normal football fans, all clubs have them and it's perfectly normal to start attending when the going's good and they drop off when things go pear shaped. When situations arise and folk can't make it due to family cost or travel distances then that's a different matter.

I'm between a supporter and a fan because I last had a season ticket in 98, I couldn't renew because I got married and moved up to Newcastle where I lived for 9 years but still tried to get to as many games as possible! Norwich and millwall away to name various away games!. I then moved to Halifax in 2007 but because of working on Saturday's I couldn't attend many games!. I'm now in Liverpool and have managed to get Saturday's off so have got a season ticket for next season. I've been a blade all my life and despite not being at bdtbl on a regular basis!!. I've gone through all the ups and downs of being a blade. My love for the blades has never died!!. Utb

It's going to be fun having this debate in 20 years when Bramall Lane has a capacity of 60,000 and it's full while we're playing Bayern Munich in the champions league, with 10,000 football tourists and 45,000 home fans (only 18,000 of whom witnessed the Adkins debacle)

Get your teeth in to that.

Yep, that will be great for the more bigger Blade threads of the future :) Adkins debacle? thats nothing, who traveled down to Torquay away in the old 4 th division? Proper Blades.

A glory avoider!

I'll go when I want

I'll stay at home when I want

I don't care what others think of this attitude

It doesn't bother me if others choose to do the same.

Why we need to start threads like this is beyond me.

Surely this is in breach of forum rules as there must be another 'biggest blade' thread elsewhere?

I need some serious help please.

I've become aware of Stone Island Jumpers by looking at the hard case 16 year olds at away games.

However, I've not heard of Bandwagon? Is that a new fashionable clothing range? Do I need to get one? Are they expensive? Are they warm jumpers for Bristol away on a Tuesday, let alone Sunland and Boro? Will my mum like it?

I need the help, please, to keep up, especially in the Championship when the fashion stakes are that much higher. Should I ditch my Ellesse and Fila and spend my pocket money on a new Bandwagon jumper, rather than a Stone Island jumper.

Sorry I live in Kent..

Don't know about bandwagon jumper but looking on another thread jump leads for the team bus might be in order.
