Most impressive opponents

I really don't see the hype around Ricky Holmes, I thought Oztumer at Walsall was miles more talented! I'd agree with the others though.
Thought Ricky Holmes was superb for Charlton at our place, capped off with a great free-kick. Everything positive they did cam via him. Wanted the ball, looked composed, dictated things.

I've seen a few people with a similar opinion but I thought that, apart from the first 10 minutes, he wasn't particularly good at all. He seemed to be a bit like Bradley Dack in that he made himself look busy but didn't do all that much. His corners were fairly terrible as well, either over hit, couldn't beat the first man or floated in so slowly that they were easy to defend.

Mr Pilkington - every time he opened his mouth he sounded like a bigger cunt

O'Toole looked good 1st half on Saturday.
Won lots in midfield & looked about 8 foot!! Disappeared when we got going in the 2nd half.

Seems to happen quite a lot this season. We make them look good with a slow start, but when we go through the gears they look like league 1 players!!!

Ive said same this season - teams have to put in so much effort to stay with us for the first 50/55 minutes that they end up on their arses when we step it up.

How many teams have we seen this year keep us at bay (especially at home) until the last half hour and then we destroy them.

Coventry was prime example.

As a coach: Uwe Rosler.

Outcoached Tufty at our place to the point of Tufty having the biggest brain fart of the season with his tactical change at halftime.

I'm pleased to say, I think it's a lesson Wilder learnt from!

That's probably the only time this season where changes Wilder made affected us negatively.

Scougall on the wing..... sweet Jesus.

And even more recently, Northampton :-)

I don't think I've ever felt more certain than I have this season that if we go 1-0 down, we will get back into the game at least and most likely go on and win it. Very different from the previous two seasons.

Almost as bad as Duffy on the wing!!

It was a bad night.

Like I say though, kudos to Wilder for learning from it.

Gaffer: Uwe Rosler, tactical masterclass at the Lane.

Keeper: Etheridge at Walsall
Defender: Anthony Kay at Bury
Midfielder: Oztumer at Walsall
Striker: Bakayogo at Walsall

Recurring theme there.

Leaving individuals out of it, I was quietly impressed by Charlton when they came to the Lane. Had us on our arses first ten minutes and ultimately we prevailed but they played some nice stuff and looked dangerous, think they could be ones to look out for in League One next season, thankfully we don't have to worry about them!

Interesting you should mention them.

Read this earlier from their forum;

Bakayoko certainly had the knack of scoring against us, in all three games. In total, he's only got four league goals, two against us and the other six were in the Checkatrade, one against us and three of the others in one game.

Bradley Dack, Leon Clarke and Stewart Beavon.

I'm so very last season....

What has come to light is loads of teams , players look good / great against us . Thing is do they , can they , do it week in week out . I stick with Wilder . None come up to our standard , we have the best squad . So no impressive opponent from me .

Agree with shouts for the likes of Oztumer but I’ll throw a couple more names into the hat that haven’t been mentioned.

GK: Neil Etheridge (Walsall)- Was impressive in the game at the lane and by all accounts also did well at their place.

Def: Patrick Bauer (Charlton)- Thought he looked very good against us. Big, strong, mobile. Won lots of headers including the one that set up Watt to hit the bar.

Mid: Paul Anderson (Northampton)- First half on new years eve he ran us ragged down the wing. Faded in the second but that’s been a theme of most teams who have faced us this season.

Att: Tope Obadeyi (Oldham): In a very scrappy game at Boundary Park, this lad produce some moments of quality. Blistering pace, quick feet. I suspect he’s one of those players that blows very hot and cold like JCR otherwise, based on that showing, he’d be playing higher.

2 more players that haven’t been to the lane yet this season but who impress me are Charlie Wyke and Mark Marshall. Marshall is a proper direct, pacey winger who on his day can murder his full back (think he will cause us problems in behind Lafferty) and Wyke looks a very promising striker. No disrespect to Hanson (as he was brought in to do a certain job for us and has done it) but I think Bradford fans will be pleased with Hanson out and Wyke in during January as he is more of a goal threat and technically a better footballer.
