JOC sauntering forward Maguire-esque.........

if we go up I am sure we will still play the same style, just a few of the personal will change.

Its the best football we have seen for a long time, long may it continue.
I'll be very surprised if we can afford the personnel to play that kind of style in the championship.

Just been on the Swindon Town club website. Their Head Coach, Luke Williams assessed our performance as follows -

'Sheffield United are a fantastic football team and they are absolutely a cut above for this level. The manager is brilliant and he's got them very well organised, they are relentless and they've got real quality. I've seen a team with quality over the years in Sheffield and the players didn't always produce, but they are doing that now and they were excellent.'

Watching the Pass, Pass, Pass video I think we can all see where he's coming from.

You never know, we might already possess the personnel to play that style in the Championship. Thing is, assumptions about who we can or cannot afford are premature. My own take is that Wilder will trust in those who've served him well, while being ruthless in knowing when to cut the ties of anyone who's no longer in his thinking. As for the depth of our pockets, let's wait and see who Wilder recruits. I'll be happy if he finds another gem at a relatively low price, but should we need to compete with existing Championship clubs then let's wait and see if we're prepared to do so.

how can anyone contemplate us missing out on auto with the evidence of how composed we are in every game ,got pulled back to 2-2
no bother we will go again , and again

I probably do know. If we play 352 with our current players we will struggle to win enough games to stay up. Bookmark this if you like and bump it in a year's time.

I am of the opinion that to play this formation successfully you have to have better players in the main than your opposition. For us to do that next season, we'd have to spend a substantial amount of money. Probably more than FFP will allow.

I'm sure CW will already be looking at how to deal with the championship next season and will have briefed Mitchell on the type of players we need and the kind of money we'll be able to pay for them. I'm not worried. But I very much doubt the 'we're going to score more than you' approach will be as effective against £10m strikers.

I've no need to bookmark this, seems pointless, possibly even churlish. There are few of us who can predict that accurately, including professional managers.

You may well be right, our spending may be more than we've become used to, but still fall some way short of the figures quoted at other clubs in the Championship. I'm not one who is impressed with big fees for their own sake, I don't think anyone who follows United will need their ego massaging via the purchase of a big money signing. The only thing that matters is the quality of the player concerned.

As for how we'll do, of course life will be different, but as you've touched upon, Wilder will already be considering the variety of permutations that he'll soon have to confront. The fact that we look as if we're going to secure promotion will give Wilder a strong hand in approaching players who are ambitious but currently at clubs that are either in Division 1 or in the Championship but in need of a career boost. Time will tell.....

Great goal which showed our ability, but let's remember that we do not score most goals following such moves. The number of passes before our other goals yesterday were 0, 0 and 0. At Oxford it was 1, 2 and 0.

I agree that we have better players than the other teams at our level, and next season (assuming we go up) will be different. Although we may not be able to dominate games as much, that may also open up other possibilities, like more counter attacking and not always having ten opponents to try and find a way past. I'm sure Wilder is aware and he's already showed that he's able to adapt.

It’s a tough one isn’t it?

I’d love to see us keep playing like that and dominating teams. But can we do it keeping the majority of the personnel we have? Bournemouth are the example in that regard. They had Harry Arter who is something of a midfield lynchpin and they brought in Callum Wilson to give them some real pace and power up front. I think we’d need a Wilson type signing and possibly a couple of others. As good as Duffy has been, he’s a luxury we can afford against the teams at this level as Fleck and Coutts hold their own giving him freedom to probe. I’m not sure we can get away with that at a higher level. We might need a midfielder who can play deeper and be more combative and help Fleck and Coutts win the battle. We’d probably also need at least one more CB as championship teams will pick us off with so many bodies committed in advanced areas.

Then there’s the wing backs. Do we need someone more defensively sound than Freeman? Do we need someone with more pace than Lafferty?

So many questions as to how we approach things next season. I’m looking forward to seeing Wilder’s answers.

Unfortunately I think you may be correct. Don't want this season to end, its been tremendous and hopefully somehow Wilder can carry it on. Whatever happens, they can't take this season away from us.

The players that can't cut it in the league above shouldn't worry too much, they'll not be many league 1 clubs not wanting to sign them up.

The Hoofers can't resist a little dig, can they. Bring back the "3 pass rule". They may be in retreat but they'll go down fighting. It could turn ugly...or so they hope.

So that's what Pinchy looks like

Now now Pinchy don't be daft. If an opposition goalkeeper passes it to you in the box, you're not going to say "bugger me, where can I play a one two?" Equally, if a keeper is off his line or a defence has pushed up too far and you've got a breaking winger, you're not going to miss an opportunity to launch it 60 yards. There is a difference between Hoof for Hoof's sake (playing the percentages) which is ugly although sometimes effective with the right blend of Orcs and going direct at the right time.

If we can pass in this division you can pass in any
we are one if not the fittest teams in this division , its why we go to the end of every game
Watching the championship a lot its no different

Teams that can have the opposition chasing passes wear the the other team out
WE WILL BE OK

I'm disappointed – told several people it was "at least 20 passes". 17? Rubbish.

And again, who are they?

Come on Hyacinth, back up your convictions. You're well into the twilight of your life, don't be a worm for the entirety of it.....

Very much agree Bergen, I think with the right additions we could be a very dangerous side on the counter attack. As I said to IIYB, I'm not worried. Not at all.

Very true. Just being part of a promotion side makes players more desirable, being part of this one especially so. Most L1 teams would be happy to take any of our regulars.
