Presenting the much anticipated sequel to my 'Possible January targets' thread...

Assuming we're going to be promoted, we'll be able to look in a different market. It's going to be interesting. Without knowing exactly how much we'll have to spend these are some players I think we could and should consider.

Add your own suggestions to the thread.

Goalkeepers

Neil Etheridge - Has looked impressive against us and is out of contract. Good competition for Moore. Stand out option as far as keepers go.

Adam Smith - Wilder's former keeper at Northampton, looks like he's out of contract, and there'd be no compensation to pay as he's 24.

Defenders / Wing Backs

Byron Webster (CB) - We've had long term interest and his name's likely to resurface, especially if Millwall don't go up. In his prime and would probably be solid in the Championship, as he is in L1.

Alex Baptiste (CB) - Versatile, experienced defender who'd fit perfectly into a back 3 if we continue playing that way, either at CB or RCB. Still a decent athlete.

Alex Pearce (CB) - Solid centre half who was Reading's captain before signing for Derby, where he hasn't played regularly due to Derby already having good established centre halves.

Richard Stearman (CB/RB) - Experienced Championship defender who should be available from Fulham. Would fit in nicely at RCB.

Matt Connolly (CB) - Another experienced Championship defender, not first choice for Cardiff but would definitely do a job for us.

Jordan Willis (CB) - Young Coventry CB, their captain, good athlete and would be easy to sign. Ideal for RCB, one who could develop with us.

Conor McLaughlin (RB/RWB) - Another we've had interest in, out of contract and would be good competition for Freeman and an option at RB in a back 4.

Amari'i Bell (LB/LWB) - Fleetwood's other wing back, also out of contract. A good athlete, the sort we could do with in the Championship. Norwich were apparently interested in January.

Joe Edwards (RB/RWB) - Versatile player who's looked good against us for Walsall, quick and tidy with the ball and would be good cover at full back or wing back on either side, can also play in central midfield.

George Baldock (RB/RWB) - Good attacking full back/wing back who's out of contract.

Callum Paterson (RWB/FW) - Highly rated young Hearts player who can play right back or as a striker. Derby were looking at him in January. Appears to be out of contract.

Midfielders / Wingers

Tendayi Darikwa (RWB/RM) - Very ideal for RWB. We'll need more athleticism next season and he'd provide that. With Burnley staying up, he'll be available.

Elliott Bennett (RWB/RM/CM) - Good athlete and all round wide player with very good crossing ability. We were linked in January and he'd at least be a useful squad player next season.

Conor Coady (CM) - We know him well. A good all rounder, a good character and would be a perfect fit for us next season. Could be available as he's not an automatic pick in Wolves' midfield and they have money to spend.

Cameron McGeehan (CM/AMC) - Goalscoring midfielder with a great attitude. Out of contract. Will be in demand despite breaking his leg in January, we could throw our hat into the ring for him.

Ben Reeves (AMC/RW) - Maybe not what we need most but a very good player to pick up on a free transfer. Tricky and creative with a good left foot.

Alex Gilbey (CM) - Young all round midfielder who did well in L1 for Colchester last season and for Wigan early this season before getting injured. If they get relegated he could be worth a look.

Jackson Irvine (CM) - Had a great season for Burton after being linked with us last summer. Would be quite costly though. Cash plus Brayford perhaps?

Sam Morsy (CM) - We could possibly do with someone with bite and defensive ability and Morsy's a good footballer too, and he's proven he can play in the Championship this season. Will be easy enough to sign if Wigan go down.

Brad Potts (CM) - Young, tall Blackpool midfielder with 12 goals this season. Has had Championship interest.

Jamie Allen (CM) - Rochdale's captain at 21, had two good games against us and is highly rated. Dynamic, tidy and solid. Appears out of contract. Would definitely consider him.

Erhun Oztumer (AMC) - We've seen what he can do, he's got brilliant ability. I'd like him as an option in our squad and I see no reason why he couldn't perform in the Championship. We could always use more goals from midfield. Depends on what he'd cost though.

Kazenga LuaLua (LW/RW) - Exciting player with a lot of pace and trickery and a hard shot. Will be available for loan at least.

Callum Harriott (LW/RW) - Not a regular for Reading and could be available. Quick, tricky, left footed and can score.

Craig Noone (RW/LW) - Proven Championship winger, not always in Cardiff's team. He'd be a very good option for us to have.

Forwards

Omar Bogle (CF) - Wigan look like going down and I'd imagine he'll have a relegation release clause. He's done fairly well for them so far and is young enough to improve. Would be ideal with Sharp. We've had previous interest so I'd expect us to consider him.

Lee Gregory (CF) - Most predictable target of the summer. Wilder wants him, he's a Blade and he wants to come here. Apparently has a release clause of some sort. I'd expect this to happen. Good player but not sure if he'd be the most suitable.

Sam Gallagher (CF) - Big 21 year old striker with a lot of technical ability. Done well for Blackburn on loan from Southampton. Could be another Chris Wood. Linked with us, would be worth spending a big fee on but I feel a loan would be more likely.

Danny Ward (CF/RW/LW) - Rotherham's only bright spark this season. Might be within our budget now, but he'll have plenty of interest, although maybe not as much now his form's dropped off a bit. He's quick and hardworking with good ability, left footed. I think he'd play well with Sharp.

James Vaughan (CF) - Had a great season for Bury. There's no doubt he's Championship standard, his injury history just counts against him a bit. Depends what he'd cost.

Nick Blackman (CF/RW) - Will be available from Derby. Was one of the best players in the league just over a year ago, he has a great left foot and would give us a good option particularly from the right wing in a 4-3-3. Has pace and ability to produce something from nothing, which we lack.

Ollie Watkins (CF) - Young Exeter striker we've been linked with. Could be a good investment.

Sammy Ameobi (RW/LW/CF) - Big, strong, fairly quick and a handful for defences. Good left foot and versatile. I think he'd do well with Sharp as well as being a good option from the right.

As competition to Moore I'd look at Connor Ripley at Oldham, on loan from Middlesbrough. Got a good amount of experience with over a hundred appearances at still a young age, having had full season at Motherwell and now Oldham and is currently having a storming season and looks nailed on to get their player of the year. Out of contract in the summer and 24 years old too so absolutely no fee or compensation required.

He seems to be having a very good season, but I don't think Boro will let him go. Looks like he's contracted until 2018 and I think they'll give him another 2/3 years on top of that. And they wouldn't loan him to us unless he was going to play.

It's quite hard to find suitable keepers, because we wouldn't be bringing one in as first choice. That means no loans from the PL and very few permanent or loan from the Championship. It'll have to be keepers in L1 and below on permanent deals.

There's always Scotland

How's Adam Armstrong doing? I'd like a few younger players in the mix and he looked a talented player in this division.

Wow, did I anticipate all that!!

I'll throw in a name: Matt Godden (ST).

I must confess, I don't know a great deal about him (I haven't seen him play), but he's beginning to make a name for himself in league 2. He's just picked up the player of the month award for February, is 6'1", already has 20 goals this season, and at 25 he still has plenty of room for improvement.

It's a gamble, but presumably not a big one financially, and there are plenty of examples of good players coming up from the lower leagues. I for one wouldn't moan about this sort of signing.

Was mightily impressed with McLaughlin of Fleetwood and also rate Marley Watkins of Barnsley who may be gettable as I think he is out of contract in June.

Alex Pearce should probably be taken off the list. Upon further inspection, he's played more often than not for Derby this season and with Shackell and Keogh getting on in years they'll probably want to keep him.

I apologise to all my supporters for this error of judgement and strive to improve in the future.

Christophe Berra can replace him on the list. Out of contract and he apparently wants to leave Ipswich, think he wants to go back to Scotland but we could try. Experienced leader.
I do think we could do someone with good Championship experience at the back. A safe option to ensure we stabilise at that level.

Many good suggestions above, far more informed than myself, but Oztumer (applause Ricky) is a definite consideration. Tricky, excellent first touch, and far better than many Div 1 creative midfield players. The addition of at least one central defender, possibly two, cover at fullback and GK, and we must address our reliance on Sharp, so another one or two bodies that have good scoring potential - I know Gregory has been mentioned, but unsure as yet (happy to be proved wrong) - should be on our list of targets.

Good balance of players, good reasoning for and against. A decent list, we have a chief scout who I'm sure is out and about and looking at similar players to what you have suggested.

For defence I would throw into the mix Cian Bolger, Fleetwood big towering centre half and a decent age.

I have always like Ben Coker from Southend as a LWB, great left food.

In midfield I like Marcus Maddison from Peterborough, good record for assist's and goals. I also like Forrester from Peterborough but not sure he's much better than what we have.

But the main signing I would want is Ricky Holmes, worked with Wider before and has done well for Charlton. Injury prone but I remember seeing some of his goals for Northampton and would love him down at BDTBL.

Up front - May not go down too well, but I like the look of Sam Winnall, surly he isn't going to get ahead of Rhodes/Hooper. I think he was a panic signing for them, and be a good addition for us.

I do not know enough about the premiership under 23's but I can imagine there's a lot of players around and hopefully stumble across a Tammy Abraham.

Some good ideas there and I agree Ricky Holmes would be a decent addition.

As for Winnall, absolutely no chance as the pigs gave him 28K a week when he signed for them. Our wage ceiling will obviously have to go up when we're promoted and can see us potentially going to say 15K for the right signings but no way will we be paying nearly 30K a week until we're challenging for promotion and even then i can't see it.

If Brighton go up, I would go back in for Murphy

I suppose that would depend on which formation CW see's us using in the long term.

If we stick with 3412 like we've played this year then i don't see where he would fit in however if CW decides he wants to go back to his favoured 4231 then he would be a great signing.

Ricky lots of good suggestions there. It's going to be a key transfer window for us if you look at how Wigan and Burton have struggled this season.

There's 3 things I'd be looking for in any signings pace, pace and pace. We are a slow team all round and if we don't address that we will struggle badly next season. The likes of JOC, Fleck, Coutts, Duffy, Sharp, Moore, Carruthers have the ability but we need to surround them with speed.

Kyle McFadzean - We all known the reasons why and apparently he wanted it this season and Wilder didn't rule him out. Burton are far from safe and for the right money maybe? Or could we sign better?......He's a blade though!

David Cotterrill - Surplus to requirements at Brum, which is a bit weird because he was at a high in his career.....On loan at Bristol City but then a free agent in the summer. Would he be good enough?

Tom Bradshaw - He's only scored 7 in 30 appearances at Barnsley but I have always admired his as a striker and think he has more than that in him, in the right team......Barnsley have shown themselves to be a selling team if the money is on the table. Is he good enough?

I have been harping on about James Vaughn for a while, second best scorer in the league and playing for a team just above the drop zone. I would have thought he would not cost the earth, but then again, who knows.

Good player and looks like his injury issues are behind him. Would be a great partner for Billy and wouldn't cost the earth plus we could probably send Leon back the other way as part ex so win-win all round.

I actually disagree about Ricky Holmes. By the time next season kicks off he will be 30. He's done ok for Charlton this season but that's about it and he's never played any higher than league 1. Granted he's been injured but do we really want to go down the path of signing ageing crocks again?

Some nice suggestions in the opening post. Another few names to add who I wouldn't mind us taking a look at.

Liam Cooper, Graham Carey, Yaser Kasim, Rob Hall

Whilst I agree that we do need another quality striker at the club (even more so at a level above)....I don't want us to overlook Hanson and Lavery completely.

Wilder obviously rates them otherwise he wouldn't have tied them down to 2 and a half and 3 year deals?.......I think both offer different things and have shown glimpses of ability in a short period of time. I don't think that they are solely the answer however!

I would say Sparky and Clarke are the two most at risk

Some other interesting names added.

David Cotterill - Will be available from Birmingham. He's done well in recent seasons. He's bulked up a lot and his end product's improved. Can play on either side too. Nearly 30 but that wouldn't put me off if he was available for the right price.

Lucas Joao - Was thinking of putting him on the list but I don't think they'd let him go to us if we're in the same division. I think he has potential though, still young and a good athlete, the type who could do well with Sharp.

Ricky Holmes - I think Wilder would get something out of him in the Championship but given his age, the fee he'd cost and what we already have I wouldn't go for him.

Cian Bolger - Been part of a good Fleetwood defence and at 25 he's still young for a CB. Wouldn't rule him out at all.

Yaser Kasim - Has always looked a good player but he's not played many games this season, and didn't last season. Maybe he has some underlying injury problem that has put clubs off signing him.

Rob Hall - I like him, quick, tricky and versatile attacking player. Would've been a great signing in January, when we were apparently interested. For the Championship I think we could possibly do better, but I'd keep an eye on him.

Graham Carey - Out of contract I think, and I wouldn't mind a left footer like him who takes good set pieces. Just not sure how he'd cope in the Championship. Having Carruthers here also gives us less room for him.

I see we have a number of striker suggestions who would be good alongside Sharp, now just what makes people think Sharp would be good enough in the Championship he will be a year older and as good as he is he has no pace at all, he might find things a lot harder next season if we go up.

I still think he'll score albeit not as many, which is exactly why you need a range of strikers - between them Sharp, Hanson, Lavery, Gregory (+ possibly Clarke) would provide finishing ability, pace, hard work, aerial threat and physicality

Realistically, Sharp is going to play. You don't get promoted with a 30 goal striker then not at least give him a proper chance in the league above. Being able to play with Sharp doesn't mean they wouldn't be able to play with anyone else, and it doesn't mean they aren't good strikers in their own right. It's a secondary consideration but an important one.

I'm confident Billy would score at least 15 if played regularly anyway, especially in a team that plays to his strengths, and even more so with the addition of more quality wide players.

Sharp is a model professional , team captain and good ambassador for the club .

He deserves a chance in the championship and even at his age IMO is still good enough . It all depends who plays upfront with him .

Also we have a number of options , forwards who you could also say are not good enough . We actually won't know until we are there.

Preseason will be the decider for Wilder . What we do lack is pace in midfield and attack . No doubt this will be resolved .
