In another thread, I mentioned that thanks should go to Clough and Adkins for Coutts, Freeman and Sharp which then got me thinking, how many of our players aren't Wilder signings.

The answer:

Long (youth)
Brayford (Clough)
Basham (Clough)
McNulty (Clough)
Scougall (Clough)
Sharp (Adkins)
Done (Clough)
Coutts (Clough)
Wallace (Clough)
Freeman (Clough)
Reed (Youth)
Whiteman (Youth)

Of those listed, how many will still be here if we do go up?

Basham, Sharp, Coutts, Freeman? Maybe Brayford?

I reckon we'll offload Brayford. Lads a sick note.

The numbers for Clough look good, until you remember all the others he signed.

Wallace? Isn't at the club anymore is he?

When you convert it into the starting line-up v Bolton, you get:
7 Wilder signings, 3 Clough, 1 Adkins
(Subs: 1 youth system, 1 Clough, 5 Wilder)

Some rebuild.

Of the likely/desired "stayers", the priority surely's got to be to sort Coutts's contract out?
Playing the way he is now (discounting the short periods when he retreats into his shell), you'd think he'd thrive given the opportunity at a higher level.

Basham in the 2nd tier? Christ no.

Basham would be an excellent player to have in the squad imho should be get over the line.

Agree he may not always be first choice but as well as being versatile, he has a first class attitude. Add to that he's played most of his career above this level and didn't look out of place against higher opposition in the cup games.

I think a fairer reflection would be our starting eleven

Moore (Wilder)
Basham (Clough)
Wright (Wilder)
Connell (Wilder)
Freeman (Clough)
Duffy (Wilder)
Coutts (Clough)
Fleck (Wilder)
Lafferty (Wilder)
Sharp (Adkins)
Hanson (Wilder)

7x Wilder Signings
3x Clough Signings
1x Adkins Signings

To be fair to Adkins (though neither he or Clough deserve it), his strike rate would be above Clough's, having signed far fewer players.

Basham seems to be getting plaudits every week - yet funnily enough I suspect you'd be happy to see Stefan Scougall, who most including our manager rates a long way off, playing in the championship?

Of course he's getting the plaudits, he's a protected species on this forum.
In the real world, people could see that he could easily have cost us the game on Saturday with an entirely unnecessary foul in a dangerous position.
But given that this is the same forum where half the folk would rather chop of their dicks than give Billy Sharp any credit, I hope you'll excuse me if I don't see much worth in such plaudits for Bashambauer.

Just a hint of intransigence?

Get off the fence, you tart

I don't recognise the problem you describe fella. Take this in the good spirit it is intended, but you come cross as the king of what you criticise others for, either fixed on writing players off or singing their praises, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Your repitition of the claim people keep criticising Sharp is now touching on bizare - I can't see any of it.

You haven't once praised Basham, yet he's been consistently rated highly of late by just about everyone. And your support of Scougall, who's really not offered much at all for two years, is again difficult to fathom.

Never understood the criticism Basham receives, particularly when he's played at CB. Always preferred him at CB. EEL can't get back in the side, who'd have thought that.

I don't even rate Basham that much but you really can't take anything away from him lately and to do otherwise is bizzare. He's been superb.

Repeating the same thing over and over won't ever make it true. I'm not sure why you keep repeating the nonsense about Sharp not getting any credit on here, you couldn't provide any evidence for it last time I pulled you up on it.

In regards to not giving credit to players who deserve it you seem to be worse than anyone, unless I've missed your praise of the defence that's only conceded 1 goal in the last 5 games.

Not that long ago I would've made a case for wanting the 3 starting CB's to be Wright, EEL and O'connell.

However EEL had a serious wobble and the current 3 that are playing are doing tremendous. Basham has been immense of late and I wasn't his biggest fan earlier in the season.

The fact we have only conceded 1 goal in the last 5 games speaks for itself. Our defence is doing a more than decent job right now.

Er, yes I did. If you choose to disregard it then that's your perogative.

Secondly I've done nothing but praise Jake Wright who is the only reason the defence isn't continuing to leak goals as they did frequently without him.

Yes you've quite rightly praised Jake Wright but he isn't the only one who plays in defence so he's not the only one who deserves some credit. Unless you're suggesting we would've kept those clean sheets even if Wright had played on his own.

You mentioned a few posts that hadn't been completely positive about Sharp but nothing that backed up your claims about the many on here who won't give him any credit. There certainly wasn't any evidence that some would rather 'chop off their dicks than give him credit'.

As I said the other day, your weird insinuations that you're the only one who can see how good Sharp is for the team really is quite strange.

Never said I was the only one, I said that there's a distinct minority of those willing to praise his incredible contribution compared to the (deserved) praise for some of our midfielders for instance.

And if Billy fails to score for a couple of games you'll see that people slate him far more readily. I can guarantee it.

I wish we had two Billy Sharps. The one who supplies great crosses and the one who scores goals. I really don't know how I'd split my loyaties though?
