pointless question of the day:-

When did the flags on the half way line disappear? Does anyone know what year this was? Or we're they phased out.

According to Albert:
'They do seem to be becoming phased out, but halfway line flags have always been optional, whereas the law says you must have corner flags. TV may have had something to do with the near-demise of halfway flags, with directors saying they sometimes get in the way of the pictures. '
