As a Football Business and Marketing Student at University, it is part of my course to create a blog surrounding the fan experience of the game.
My mission is to blog about pies at every Football Club in the UK, and would be grateful for feedback on the pies on offer at Sheffield United to use in future posts.

checked out your blog found this #PiesBeforeGuys - are you some sort of cult seeking to do away with traditional bonfire night celebrations in favour of pie eating? if so count me in.

Also count me in if you're inferring pre-bonfire night pie consumption.

Katie, harking from the same neck of the woods as you, I know there's little in the way of football on offer. But Earls Barton? at least if you supported the Doughboys you could have done a sideline in bread related stories - I'm sure there must be many bread related football anecdotes.

My missus claims the pies at United are Pukka, although we didn't have any on our last visit. Let's face it you have to be desperate to eat (or drink) in a football ground as it is generally over priced and low quality.

Zero nutritional content and overpriced (pukka pies) with no veggie options YET they seem to have the monopoly of pie trade in football! Bizarre...

Perhaps a different caterer is needed at the Lane. But looking at fans as a consumer, I'd happily spend money at half time on decent value food because we're not living in post war Britain when food variety and availability was scarce.

Please set up a decent pie business then pitch it to Paul Reeves (Head of Commercial) pies need a freshen up.

:)

The butter pie at Preston was nice at first, but then I concluded that it would have been better with some meat and gravy in the filling.

I seldom purchase any snacks at the football now as they are generally poor quality, very overpriced, the queue is always a mile long and they tend to sell out just as you get to the front.

I invested in a Thermos Food Jar a while back and now take my own hot snacks and soup to matches.

I enjoyed a nice pot of pea and ham soup at Peterborough. Very warming on a cold afternoon.

I might start a blog (whatever that is) of "what is in my food jar this week"?

HH

This is not a current pie story or even relate to Bramall Lane. However,i went to a night match at Leeds Road,Huddersfield straight from work in the early 1970's and had a pie from a wooden hut at the back of terrace. The only choice was whether i wanted it hot or cold,i thought it was odd,but asked for it hot.It turned out they were Pork Pies and the jelly had melted it was bloody 'red hot',you don't learn this at University !!

Worst one I can remember is Ethiopa playing away at Nigeria shortly after their devastating famine in 1984 (ish).

Ethiopian players as they walked onto the pitch greeted by the Nigerian crowd by bread rolls being chucked at them... """ ironically """ .... hilarious, the crafty cockerneys of West Africa.

thing is like others have said, you can't rely on being able to get a pie, so if you're hungry and don't want chips it's better to buy something from the food vans or shops outside the Lane or bring your own.

After having a few beers before the match I get a bit peckish sometimes at half time so I try to get a pie, it gets on my fucking nerves when you leave your seat 5 mins early to try and get one whilst there's hardly anyone in the queue and there's never none left, it's fucking stupid. I end up with some chips that are thinner than some chicken noodles.

And breathe. :)

You'd probably prefer post war British pies VB as they were generally potato and cabbage ( okay, with lard) than the abbatoir scrapings on offer at BL these days. If you ate animal products that is.

Poor quality food is expensive at grounds. Expecting quality would cost you more than Tom Kitchins vegetarian tasting menu. Or the first three courses anyway.

Watching United on the Sty Kop in the sixties, that's how they served them at the kiosk on the left facing the pitch.
