God's country ...... Rovrum!
When you read the following quote from CW, it makes it all the more remarkable as to how and why he's took us to the top of the league.

“We’ve not paid over £300,000 for a player"

I accept that in this league that sort of money is probably seen as the norm, or even top end, but I remember Wolves a few seasons back and I'm sure Wigan last season spending far more than we have on players.

It's not just the recruitment, but the way and the speed at which CW has turned a broken team from last season into a team that has a completely different mindset this season

Regardless of the end of season outcome, he's a winner!

And we've sold players totalling over £4m.

If Chris gets us up this season McCabe and co want to be grovelling at his feet for the rest of eternity.

That's true, but part of Wilder's brief was to cut costs as well, so those sales vs outlays will go a long way to doing that. Fairly sure he will have had the final say in agreeing to the sales The bloke hss done an absolutely astonishing job and deserves as much backing as possible next season, whichever league we are in.

Its noticeable theres never much coverage of this type of quote

Wilder, whose side lead the table ahead of Saturday’s visit to Peterborough, cited the backing of co-owners Kevin McCabe and HRH Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ed bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as a factor behind United’s rapid progress in recent months. “I appreciate the backing and I appreciate that the club have allowed me to go out there and get on with my job,” he said. “Now, we have to back up the decisions we’ve made.”

Some still refuse to even murmur the slightest acknowledgement to the board
even through gritted teeth
Yet the man who is steering in the right direction , chooses to be generous about their backing
and I think weve realised CW doesnt deal in waffle

It's laughable.

Moore was 300k i think, it doesn't tell the whole story, but we do have a striker called Billy Sharp and i think he was approx 500k. And not sure how much Freeman and Coutts were, but we have loaned out our 2 Million right back.

Its indeed a good demonstration though that you don't need to spend too much on players, but to get the right players and the right manager. Lessons learnt for the club.

However, the fact that Hammond, Adkins and maybe even Clough are still taking wages from the club, theoretically because they were paid off, but Clough and Adkins had 2/ 3 year deals.

And lets not forget the unnecessary Desso... ;)

You've upset him now............................

Without wanting to diminish Wilder's efforts, I don't think Fleck would be here if we weren't the highest wage payer in the division.

He came from Coventry, apparently they thought he was crap, he was just glad to still be playing football

Thats most likely true. Weren't some other clubs having a look at him? If so we'd have had to put in a decent offer.

It was said the time there was interest from the league above, and i think Cov wanted him off the wage bill so didn't seek to keep him.

Joking aside, yeah I think you're right there. But given that he started the season fairly slowly (compared to his form and fitness now), he might have been concerned that he wouldn't be up to pace in the Championship and he wanted guaranteed first team football.

I also think that Wilder will also be a huge pull for many players. Shirkers like Hammond and the winger that Adkins signed, would obviously want to avoid a real manager like Wilder, but certain players, like the ones we have, thrive under an honest manager like Wilder

We are probably paying Adkins now, however as Clough is now working that should have gone or only be a slight % we are still paying. Managers generally get compo until they get their next job and then the difference is made up from their old club (if their next wages are lower)

Wonder how much Hussey cost with that sweet left foot delivery of his.

Totally unecessary post IMHO.

Wilder gambled on players and most have come out far better than we expected, but Hussey and Wilson currently haven't. Hussey started in a poor team that was losing games. He may not be good enough or he might look a diffferent player in a confident winning team.

Presumably if he starts a game you will give him an 'encouraging boo' just to let him know what a total waste of space you think he is?

We'll be up there but I'm not sure we're the highest wage payer in L1, you've got the clubs coming down such as Charlton/Bolton/MK Dongs who'll pay a fair whack.

I'd imagine/like to think that with the new wage structure, we're around the £4-5 million mark, similar to Peterborough ( who supposedly paid that Tafazolli feller £10k a week when we were rumoured to be interested)

Remember, that wage bill won't come down on its own ;)

Actually you are wrong, feet first lambasting, the last game i saw Hussey play was against Leicester u23 and he had a very good game,on his showing i thought he might have regained his place in the first team.

I never will and never have boo'eed my own teams players............one exception Hammond.

BTW do you still think Leon Clarke is a waste of space.............dads dead post,eh.

So you've seen him play well for the U23 yet you still choose to get a dig in? Some supporter.

BTW do you still think Leon Clarke is a waste of space.............dads dead post,eh.

I still think he is a wate of money and nowhere near mobile enough and I'm not alone in that.

I made the point clearly that I didn't know his dad had died and apologised for any offence. An apology is a mechanism whereby if you are sincere, you can withdraw a previously made comment and admit you were wrong. I don't suppose it will catch on though.

Great transfer work by the club but will it all change should we go up? I don't see why it should change all that much. Silly money is being paid by clubs who are lazy in the transfer market. Chris has said this morning.........

The network that's been set up is focused on intensive scouting and hard work at getting the right lads in. Well done everyone at the Lane for the quick turn around.
