Great moment v Southampton, always remember that.

I think he'd have suited our system down to the ground. Some of his deliveries were fantastic and he had a decent shot on him.

Said this on the last bob Harris thread. I think he was underrated and left woefully exposed during the Swindon match that people like to bring up as proof of being shit.

Loved Bob, so committed and never backed out of a challenge, good going forward too, crucial part to the side under Clough that got to the FA Semi, with him and Brayford bombing down the flanks supporting Flynn and Murphy

Three of those now derided as poor and one a world beater. Only on a Blades forum eh?

To be fair, Harris has found himself unemployed for 6 months or so, Flynn is battling relegation with Oldham. Murphy and Brayford are in the division above. So a fairer comment is probably 2 poor, 2 very good (relative to our level).

Harris was a poor full back any decent winger took him apart not much better than Matt Hill

I think it's been fitness issues for Harris. Flynn split opinion but had a decent season with the cup run. Quite a few now deride Brayford although for some it's just the fee rather than those who dislike him simply because he's close to Clough. Murphys okay and at a level above but since we sold him, rather like Quinny, he's become some sort of God to a few, not necessarily for footballing reasons.

I'm amazed that it has taken him this long to find a new club, but has today signed a deal with Bristol Rovers, good luck to the lad. I always liked Bob, injury prone but committed player non the less.

He was definitely a steady player. deserves to be playing at this level, for sure.

Did we release him in the summer? Perhaps part of the release included a block on him joining another club for 6 months

I didn't suggest a statue outside the ground BB.

Erratic and inconsistent still applies to some we've still got. We're up there and players are still pilloried. Both were committed though.
Yes, they were. Both good pros as far as I'm aware.

Hill was consistent in his inability to propel a football where he intended. :)

I did like him though.

Flynn did have a good run in that season but over 5 years with the club, proved himself to be average at best. Harris was OK on his day but injury problems combined with the odd rush of blood made him somewhat unreliable. I think the fee and his closeness to Clough has distorted some views on Brayford but he, Murphy and Quinn have all proven themselves to be decent championship players which is better than the level we are currently at so it's logical they would be hailed given our relative level.

He was part of the naughty boys club with Mcnulty as far as I know. so I guess that's why he ended up without a contract.

I don't see that much hailing of Brayford to be honest.

As for Quinn, despite his passion for the club he was jeered by a largish number on the John Street side of the Kop many times, remonstrating with them more than once. Many only apparently "recognised" his qualities when he left.

Murphy is doing okay at a higher Level, not disputed, however once sold, his stock whilst at the club rose far beyond his actual achievements, best player or not.

Agreed completely.

Came through our yoof system, played in the Premier and then in our declining Championship side and down into the third. He only went because we needed to offload, as we couldn't afford his wages. In the Chedgate season, he was one of our most consistent players and scored 5 goals and loads of assists.

I met him, his dad and brothers in the Psalter Tavern in April 2006. A friendly bunch although I only got every other word. The horse tied up outside, was also very friendly.

Not sure why we could never keep that attacking play going despite selling Maguire. I think it exposed the lack of decent strikers Clough brought in.

Throw Billy Sharp into that FA Cup team and I think we would have faired better in the league.

Thought Harris was a ticking timebomb (no pun intended) definsively tbh. Always thought that we had fuked it if he came up against a fairly decent winger. Not the worst ive seen but certainly nothing to shout up about. Put in his injury record i was all for him getting the chop in Wilders cull along with all the other retards that went. I dont miss a single one of the losers from last season. Lafferty is a far better player than Harris imo.

Think losing Coady was a much bigger impact than people think, his drive from midfield was awesome, I think the striker we've just signed would have been perfect, big James Hanson would have been superb in that side

Forgot about Coady.

How come we didn't sign Coady?

Always thought he was a very good full back. There certainly weren't, and aren't, many we came up against where I thought 'I'd rather have him than Bob' in our league.

He wanted to play at a higher level than L1. He went on a pre-season tour with Liverpool and realised he wasn't going to be part of Rodgers' plan so asked if he could find another club. Huddersfield made an offer which Liverpool accepted so he went there.

More a wing back than a full back, maybe he would have done well if he'd stayed.

His immediate replacement was Hussey and Harris would have been better than him perhaps.

Lafferty still strikes me as more a full back than a wing back, certainly Harris would have provided better crosses to the strikers and more of a goal threat too.

With regards to Quinn, most of his derision came when we were in the championship and Blackwell had him hooking it on at every opportunity.

When we were in League 1, under Wilson, in a passing team, he proved his worth. I think he was the league's top assister.

Ah we didn't get promoted, that was it. :)

How Harris escaped criticism whilst he was at Utd is beyond me - perhaps all due to him doing a funny wave on camera to one of his mates?!?!

Defensively shocking (as bad as any in the last 5 years and that's a low bar!!!), poor positionally, extremely injury prone, made to look as though he'd never kicked a ball (or player) before by Nathan Byrne in the play-off semi (which contributed to the misguided heralding of Byrne as a genius by some), yet he his remembered as a great player for Utd by far more people than he deserves - I would guess it is mainly those who demanded the signing of Bogle, Taylor, Gregory, Akinde etc. without actually ever having seen them play.
