I think you may be a little "optimistic" regarding winning the league mate .......
I'm certainly not turning on Tufty, however, he gets the plaudits for the good things and he must therefore take some flak for the bad. ( without need for pitchforks or witchhunts )
I'm disappointed that he didn't hold his hands up and admit that he'd got it wrong with team selections in the last two games !! Done at LWB ?? MCNulty starting ?? No changes in CH despite some clear loss of form ??
He expected a reaction against Gillingham and didn't get it ......... and definitely got a turgid, gutless display last night which was dangerously close to what we saw under Adkins. Personally ...... I wouldn't pay the players this week as they don't deserve it !!
What it has shown us is that we are certainly NOT as good as some optimistic individuals think we are ......... teams who are top two grind out wins when they don't play well, but they don't ship 8 goals in 3 games and barely look like threatening the other side's goalkeeper. We have thrown away a very good, very clear opportunity to put some distance between us and the 2nd / 3rd place sides and I regret to say that I believe that this will come back to haunt us in May. How many people predicted that Scunny would implode and drop away ......... looks dangerously like we may do similar ........
We are also
very easily exposed by pace, which we have little of and any side with two quick fullbacks quickly nullify our wingbacks and therefore stifle our play. We have passed up the opportunity to bring in some pace of our own upfront and look to be relying on Clarke, Done and McNulty ( who can't score at the moment), Lavery ( who looks to have promise but has a lot of work to do to be a regular scorer) Hanson ( who will surely be an impact player off the bench) and Billy Sharp ( who is the only player we have who can consistently find the net, but our over-reliance on him is frightening )
I've been backing my team for 52 years now and I can assure you that I've seen this before with United ....... deja-vu ...... it's called "pressing the self-destruct button"
That game last night may turn out to be a pivotal point in this years fortunes ......... I just hope that Tufty is true to his word and refuses to accept performances like that and punishes the transgressors by dropping them
