Done - Sharp worked.

Yes Done doesn't score. But the partnership just worked. How many teams have two goal machines up top?

By far the best football has been played with those two up top. Goals flowed, chances a plenty were created.

Think about that.
 



I'd love to know our record for when they have started up front together. It's got to be easily over 2 points per match.
 
Was about to post something very similar.
I'm not a Done fan but it's the only partnership Billy seems happy in.
Hanson/Sharp will (in my opinion) be either our complete salvation or an absolute disaster resulting in us scrapping in the paly-offs.
I'm praying its the former.
We'll see.

Pinchy said so Wilder does.
Result = play offs.

That said Wilder MUST IMO stick with Sharp and Lavery. Lavery set Sharp up a couple of times tonight and is always willing to reun at defenders. He's only played a handfull of games then Wilder drops him for that cunt McNulty. Now that is a crap managerial decision.

Done or Lavery should be starting with Sharp, any of the others will be a failure.

With Hanson signing, I can only see it being Sharp and Hanson for at least a few matches with Billy going from the best striker in League One to performing like a Sunday morning pub team striker with the mother of all hangovers. :(

It was as you say, "a crap decision".
It's one Wilder can put right though straight away.
Unfortunately giving Clarke a two and a half year contract isn't.
THAT is a crap decision!

Yes these two upfront has proved to get results and encourage the high press but there's been other factors; EEL fighting to impress as career looked uncertain, Wright in the middle giving direction to JOC and EEL. Bad/underperforming players can feature in winning teams and overall Lavery in his appearances has contributed more goals and assists which makes him overall the better first choice IMO.

Completely agree.

I think in some ways Wilder has got greedy during the cracking run that we were on. Its great that he's not settled for what we had, but tried to improve things. However, he's tinkered with the team to accommodate players (that he trusts), in positions that they struggle in or ignoring the better options on the bench. It may sound a little harsh as Wilder has had to juggle things a little to manage injuries etc.

Wilder has been extremely loyal to players from the unbeaten run, keeping faith with them, when perhaps after Walsall or Gillingham, he could be excused for knee jerk changes, he didn't make them. It seems at Half Time yesterday that changed a little, again bringing in players he trusts like Scoogs and Lavery. In previous games he might've held off making those changes.

I'd be very surprised if we don't revert back to something like what we saw after the bad run at the start of the season, on Saturday. We need to become difficult to beat again, this might mean that Done comes back in, but i'd expect Hanson to get a start.
 
Well, I'd rather see Done up front than LWB...I'm expecting Hanson to start v Wimbledon not only to change it up front, but for defending set pieces...

They got some giants as I recall....
 
Not sure Sergio and Suerez would have made much of a difference last night. Fleetwood did their homework and service was poor. That said, we needed more up top. When the team was announced, I was looking forward to seeing how Billy and Spark worked together. It didn't.

I actually want to see this Hanson bloke now !!!!!

Sergio and Suarez would have the business last night, we were crying out for pace and movement. A big striker would have played into there hands even more.
 
Personally I don't think Lavery has done anything wrong to warrant being dropped. He has been putting in assists and even has a couple of goals to boot. I do however appreciate Done's ability to pressure and win high up the pitch.

Either Done or Lavery in my opinion need to start with Sharp and then Hanson will prove to be an ideal impact sub once defenders get tired.







Clarke and McNulty can fuck off.

Whilst Aguero and Suarez might be handy, if a team sits as deep as Fleetwood then crossing from deeper (rather than failing to get in behind) can cause chaos if we've a biggun at the back post to nod it on.

With Sharp and McNulty you can only try to pick your way through.

Surely Bradford have been getting crosses into the box? So why has Hanson only scored 4 goals this season? It's not as simple as just getting crosses into the box and Hanson will do the rest.

The balls into the box were average at best and easy to defend, Hanson starting last night would have made no difference to that. When Man United had Yorke and Cole up front, they still scored plenty of headed goals between them because they had quality balls coming into the box from the likes of Beckham and Giggs, you don't need to be 6 foot 4 to score with your head.

I heard that Lavs had a pop back at Wilder Saturday after he had a go, so if that's the case then fair enough for taking him out to let him learn his lesson, though just for that useless twat McNulty

Agreed if it's true matey.

McNulty was a decent enough experiment yesterday as a given but I can't see him (or Clarke) getting in the squad realistically while Sharp's there. Just far too similar to his role IMO.

It depends on how deep your opponents defend. If they're very high, you want to use pace to get in behind. If they're very deep and you're struggling to pass through them, diagonal crosses from deeper are an option only if you've got height up front. It's not necessarily about Hanson nodding them in, but as often nodding them across or just causing chaos we can exploit.

Last night we could not get through them and thus had zero threat. We just couldn't discomfort their defence. It's just about having different options.

As an aside, Freeman did put in one dream of a cross in the first half, but our dinky wee strikers were smothered.

Were at least as good at attacking and much better defensively when using the high press system. I've been saying this all season.Even in those frustrating games were we had teams on their knees and were failing to break them down or finish the off, our ascendancy was due to this system. That would've been the time to use Hanson for the last 30 mins
 
Fleetwood were comfortable for 90 minutes last night. Done, although obviously flawed, puts defences on the back-foot, makes them nervous and forces them into mistakes. That's something we needed in order to take control of Fleetwood. Lavery is an improvement on Done in terms of quality but not balance.

Done for 60 minutes, Lavery for 30 minutes.
 
F*ck me how long ive waited for someone else to see that Done and Sharp worked!! YES he doesnt score, but he works his socks off an creates pressure up top that Sharp has been exploiting. I see why we wanted to try out Lavery, Clarke and McNulty but for gods sake lets go back to Done and Sharp, and bring Wright back.

It seems to me that we're developing two styles;
1. A style of 'play it through them' that we saw best (in my opinion) with done and sharp. Done did the running about making the space, sharp would hold it up

2. A 'float crosses into the middle' which we saw last night, only problem is that sharp, done, mcnulty and Lavery aren't exactly the biggest of the bunch. I understand that a big lad like Hanson isn't going to automatically score a million goals every game but he should be a bit more suited to a high ball than the others, then sharp feeds off him.

Hopefully Hansons worth his money but we shall soon find out

Still worried about defensive frailties though...
 
For whatever reason the Done and Sharp partnership works rather well.

That said the Lavery and Sharp is gelling as well. Ideally I would start with Lavery and bring on Done later in a match.

Despite my reservations of us signing Hanson, I think a Done and Hanson partnership could work in the last 20 minutes of a match.
