Kevin Keegan tactics will be our demise

I agree, but I'm not sure that we have the personnel to get the best out of Hanson - even if we changed approach completely. At the minute we don't cross the ball in the air much, we try and cut it back or drill it across goal. We don't have orthodox wingers. I think he would help a lot when were battering teams at home, having fifteen corners and loads of free kicks etc to no avail. A plan B.
We don't cross it in the air much though because we don't have the height ,however Billy had 2 great opportunities yesterday that he should have converted. Many times we have a chance to cross ,but decide against it and come back across the pitch ,I think the quality of Duffy Coutts and Fleck will give a striker like Hanson loads of opportunities ,to either score or lay it off and give room to Bill.

"Al tell you what, I would loveit if we beat them LOVE IT". Mebbe that's what Wilder will be saying when Scunthorpe and Bolton pip us to automatic promotion.

Personally I'm fed up with Wilder's Kevin Keegan style attitude. Our problem is not scoring goals (we're the 2nd highest scorers in the whole football league) it's our shoddy defence. Wilder comes out and lambasts the strikers but we concede 2 soft goals at home to 20th in the league. 2 goals at home against Gillingham should be more than enough to win the match.

Tufty slams Lavery, Done, Sparky, Clarke etc but there is no mention of any defenders. Ebanks-Landel and O'Connell are his signings and so are Wright and Wilson. He leaves our best defender on the bench despite us conceding 4 the week before and then complains that we concede soft goals. It is obvious to just about every United fan (except Wilder) that we desperately need Wright in the team but despite us conceding 6 goals in the previous 2 games he keeps the same team. He plays Done at wing back too.

The Blades fans can take their share of the blame too. Idolising another poor player. Before it was Brayford, now Ebanks-Landel. What is about losers that we love? Back of Brayford became the cult hero and now it is Flatfeet-Landel. The latter is a joke of a defender. Slow, cumbersome and takes an age to react. He's good in the area but otherwise awful at defending. He's only been bailed out by his goals at the other end.

I forgot to mention Simon 'calamity' Moore. Does this guy do anything but pick the ball out of the net? The opposition shoots on target and they score. We may as well play without a keeper and stick another striker up top. Or get Wright in the team to cover for the 3 poor defenders at centre heif.

The midfield do their job and control the game, the attackers (or Billy) do their job and score but the defenders and keeper don't do theirs. But Wilder's answer is to criticise the strikers. Sorry Kev, but we cannot expect to score 4 every game. Even though we create a phenomenal amount of chances 2 goals should still be enough to win a match at home against poor opposition.

The wheels are off (a bit like Keegan's Newcastle when he signed Ausprilla) and Wilder has no answers. I'm sure he will sign a striker before the end of the JTW but Hanson won't make Flatfeet-Landel become positionally more aware. Wright needs to start on Tuesday and we need another keeper before the end of January. We all started to dream when we went 4 points clear but in truth we haven't played well for ages. Swindon is the last time we actually played really well.

Teams have worked out we are not very good and will now be coming to BDTBL and having a pop ... and taking points. No more parking the bus, playingnon thr counter, having a go and getting results. Managers can see we have a woeful defence and are a soft touch. Fook me, all they have to do is shoot on target.

Where would tufty the last dinosaur be without Billy's goals I ask thee? His team is being carried by an Adkins signing.

Not conceding goals is the key to winning matches Chris. We will score goals and are highly unlikely to draw against teams. Sort the defence FFS.

Brian the Blade has got the Internet now.

Maybe didn't name individuals, but he did blame the defence for not listening about long throws and missing 4 tackles.

This is your first thread in over a year. Why have you suddenly come on now on our terrible run of one loss and a home draw? Where were you when we were unbeaten for I don't know how many games and when we won six on the trot? Pathetic. Get back to your fucking shed.

I dont disgree with Wilder - we have missed some chances we should have taken, and the stats dont lie - Billy scores and not may others do. So he was right to have a go.

I dont think the defence did get off likely either - Wilder rightly pointed out they were poor yesterday, with the goals conceded.

Wilder's attitude or tactics is something I'm certainly not fed up with - because they have been good, hence us being top of the league.

In fairness to Wilder it's been a very noticeable theme that our strikers miss a surprisingly vast amount of simple chances, as illustrated with Lavery's back post header at 2-2 and McNulty's one-on-one (ish) - both really should have done better. It's annoyingly obvious our strikers don't take these opportunities by the scruff of the neck when in contrast our opposition very well makes sure the ball goes in at every opportunity. He's definitely right.

The defence didn't escape criticism yesterday. Unsure as to why people seem to think Wilder lambasted the attack and never stated the goals we conceded were ridiculous. Listen to the post match interview again. He knows what we need and we'll get it. We're in a fantastic position and 1st place is still in our hands.

A good cast, but with the error of using pork luncheon meat on the hook, so I'm not biting - if however, you'd used MAGGOTS, I'd have been up your flue in a minute or two...

Maggots, you know it makes sense

i got the impression that CW was so annoyed ranting at the team generally that he didn't get round to the defence specifically and thought better of it
agree with olle in ine thing though.. i'm not convinced by moore

Ridiculous OP. Can anyone remember what we all thought of the squad and Wilder's chances at the beginning of the season? I'm still amazed at where we are. There's a long way to go and of course things could start to go downhill, but to rant like that when we haven't even slipped from top postion is mind-boggling.

Spot on. When Wilder started I was under the impression that the concensus was that a strong season building a team for promotion next was why everyone was so optimistic. It's brilliant we are top, even better if we are at then end of the season.. but I do wish we could keep our feet on the ground whatever the result.

At the start of the season I said he should be given two years. I certainly didn't expect such an instant impact. It's annoying to drop two points but it's going to happen and I'd rather we dropped points against teams well below us than our rivals.

There are maybe some valid points in the post, however the complete absence of Ollessandro on this site for months suggests this is just a cheap attempt at trolling from the attention seeker with the shed.

Name calling is childish not clever, particularly of a management team who had the balls to clear up the mess of a squad and delivered good football.

Ignore the troll and trust in CW and AK to make the required tweaks.

Agree it was the defence that let us down yesterday with conceding 2 crap goals........but i also agree with Wilders criticism of the forwards. Two goals at home should be good enough, but we are creating enough chances to score 5 and 6 and just not putting them away.
I think the forwards criticism has been building up for some time and just happened to surface in this interview.

Ollessendro - I was with you until you slagged Moore off. He has won us so many points this season.
Coutts, Fleck and Duffy are getting all the plaudits (rightly so) this season but between Sharp and Moore, they must have won us 30+ pts.

Moore has been very poor as of late and deserves the criticism. He just needs to react in the right way. The Walsall performance was comical & both goals against southend (particularly the second) were beyond poor. He might have saved us in a few games but make no doubt he should've done better here. We are talking the absolute basics. In exactly the same way that we might criticise strikers for not scoring.

Moore is so much better than the previous incumbents of the goalkeepers jersey it's ridiculous to suggest replacing him - whilst accepting he has made some mistakes of late he is still head and shoulders above Long or any other laughable excuse we've had for a goalkeeper in the last few seasons.

Incredible isn't it. What did the same people think of Simonsen, Howard and Long?

Your only as good as whats in front of you.
Defence makes mistakes.......hiding to nothing. We all make mistakes. Have bad games etc. Its how you respond to those mistakes as we did in early season. I think our season has been awful up till now. New manager next . Bring Warnock back. Its great this website.

My my, there are quite a few Kim Jong Ils on ere. Thought a football forum was about opinions and debate but clearly if you don't clap til yer mitts bleed den yer gunna get some stick.

Typical United fans defending the indefensible. Moore plays like an amateur and people still stick up for him. Unless you think he kicks well you simply cannot admire him because all he does is watch the ball past him. I read somewhere else that we concede a goal for every 3 shots on target. If only all keepers in the division where as poor as Moore we would have won the league by now with the chances we create.

We are the 2nd highest scorers in the whole football league yet Wilder brings in a striker, winger and attacking midfielder during the window and also brings back a striker out on loan. Yet I get lambasted for likening him to Keegan. It's funny how my abiding memory of Keegan is when his Newcastle team chucked away a 12 point lead in the Premiership title race yet all the clappers on here (it'll be reit Sheffield United lot) are making him out to be a success. He's a loser .... a bit like most of our team.

Our defensive record is that of a mid table team and Wilder doesn't nowt but bring in attacking players. Yet my Kevin Keegan reference is misunderstood and balked against left, right and centre.
