He improved us a lot when he came on and helped win us the game. I think this is worth pointing out after all the talk about us only performing when Done's on the pitch.

Many have written him off as a partner for Sharp, and it won't always work with them two, but sometimes it will. Today showed how valuable it is to have an option like him to turn to. All of our strikers have a big contribution to make.

Gutted that shot of his didn't go in, that would've been a superb goal.

I don't think was very good at all actually. Well, he defended one of their corners well so he could be a decent replacement for Jack O'Connell at least.

just posted something very similar on another thread. He got 19 last year and does offer something different. It would be great if he could take advantage of tired legs and notch a few

Credit where it's due he had a real impact today but it was 45 minutes and it's taken half a season. Still think ALL the strikers will play there part this season and whether Wilder goes for another or not it's certainly not his priority

Now THAT's the Leon I'd thought we'd bought.

Billy's been superbly consistent (after his ropy start) - the other three are all useful options who offer different things. And Leon showed just what a key option he'll be for the remainder today.

Pretty much did what Harry Chapman did when he came off the bench against Bristol Rovers.

I admit I wasn't impressed when he came on for Done. I expected most movements would cease and it would end in stalemate.
However, and I admit when I'm wrong, it did make a positive impact. Clarke played very well which surprisingly upped the urgency and we went on to win. Billy's first being rather special.

I find him to be surprisingly pacey too. Remember a few occasions out wide where he chased the ball down and kept it in when it looked nailed on to be going out.

His issues are two-fold...

  1. He's used to being the main man, here he isn't.
  2. He isn't used to playing a high pressing, Wilder game.

Thought we looked better when he come on as we did v coventry, but strangely we don't when he starts. ..........a decent option from the bench is his (and our)strength at present, whether a run of games and more importantly goals changes this then it can only be a bonus

I though he changed the game today, upped the tempo, held the ball up well, won flick ons, actually did a bit of chasing and defending and his assault on the goalkeeper to set up Billy's second was perfect. But then he goes and fucks up my bet and puts his chance over the bar.

Probably should have read this before starting my thread.
Anyway, completely agree.

Some very harsh criticism of Clarke on here tonight yet we would NOT have won this game has Wilder not made that sub. I can't quite understand how some people can't see it, it seems so bleeding obvious to me.

I still believe we need a real partner for Billy in the JTW, we have options at present, but not a solution! I hope CW chooses wisely and we get a second hitman that compliments Sharp.
Can you imagine 2 Sharps upfront!!!!!
We would need atleast a couple of spare nets at the lane, cos I'm sure they'd wear out very quickly!!

Clarke's played very well today because the team's played to his strengths with a bit more of a direct approach. He didn't fare so well earlier in the month when it was all about possession football. If the team is going to mix it up more than Clarke gets in for me.

I thought he did well although lacked confidence round the box on a few occasions. He set up the 2nd and sometimes you need some ugly upfront

Did well when he came on, not sure he changed the game though and the shot that didn't go in was a complete howler, sitter, gimme or whatever you want to call it - jury is still very much out on Leon and I wouldn't be surprised to see CW bring in another striker in January

Just check who the critics are and consider how much weight you attach to it....

So what's the official line here ?

In his post match interview, Tufty said Leon's not been doing it, that he has been unlucky AND he is injured (again) !!

So which one is it ??

I'm going for dropped from the 18. And with good reason.

Wilder is entitled to his opinion, but surely Pinchy is the real authority when it comes to assessing footballers ability and he says that Leon is a right player, so for me we've got to stick with him.

Granted it may appear to the untrained eye that as a player, he is just going through the motions, devoid of a hint of enthusiasm for the game and to all intent and purpose completely disinterested, but hey Chris, just give him time

He also mentioned players knocking on his door asking why they're not playing. I suspect Clarke has been one of those as he mentioned him saying 'he wasn't playing, he's injured but he's had chances'.

I think he may be on his way out.

More likely to be due to him going to Bradford in exchange for Hanson.

Btw, why are the vast majority of your posts about Clarke/strikers? Genuine question.
