Just got back. Let me start by saying defensively we weren't good enough and poor defending for both their goals. We let a mediocre Gillingham team score 2 past us, that's not good enough. Why on earth don't we play Wright? He gives us organisation.

But that isn't the reason why I'm angry. Why is it every team that seems to come to Bramall Lane get to execute their shitty little tactics and get away with it? Gillingham came here and let us bring the game to them and all they did in the first half was needlessly foul us. All this fouling went completely unpunished in terms of bookings. It disrupted our rhythm but we still took the lead into HT.

Second half we came out, didn't wake up and conceded 2 goals. We scored an equaliser and got into our stride with increased tempo and urgency. What then followed was complete and utter gamesmanship from the Gillingham players. Their right back took at least 10 seconds, probably more 15 seconds for some long throws; their goalkeeper took a similar amount of time for some goalkicks and all they did is whinge all game. Why are refs so unbelievably thick to not punish this blatant cheating? Going down clutching their head and play acting for meagre fouls. It's all rubbish.

Don't get me wrong, we weren't good enough today in some areas but I feel after our equaliser we developed urgency and a high tempo. This was ruined by their blatant cheating and the ref let them get away with it all. Their game plan was to stop us playing by going against the rules and it worked. Not saying we'd have won the game if the gamesmanship hadn't happened but it was majorly to their advantage.

Southerners eh, twats.
On a serious note, it was their game plan and it worked.
ugly way to play mind.

That ref was a total cunt. Let them do whatever the hell they liked and didn't add on the correct amount of time in either half.

What's most infuriating is that we seem to make every single home game a fucking struggle. It's really wearing extremely thin.

I thought after the opening goal today we would go on to cruise to victory as we were dominating but we then effortlessly conceded two totally ridiculous goals which changed the game. For all the chances the fowards miss, letting the opposition score or have a good chance whenever they venture forward is the most infuriating thing at the moment. Even the games we kept clean sheets, we gifted good chances to the opposition that if taken would have changed the game. Northampton sliced us apart many a time in the first half and even Oldham got the better of our back line on way too many occasions in the first half in that game

I don't know if it's a lack of leadership, players not willing to take responsibility or just that they are dozy bastards but all 3 of that backline have let the entire side down today.

Agree they came and did a job on us but it was god-damn awful
Saying that we have to cope with these sides if we are serious about promotion

Agree on every point in the OP. That is about as cynical a performance as I have seen from an away team at the Lane. Add a spinless ref into the mix and it just makes the job that bit harder. Still, our defence has noone to blame but itself for those goals. Very poor.

Not gonna moan too much but did a lot of people half expect this today? What an opportunity to pull away but there you go. We just don't seem to win both games when we have sat/tues home games. However we'll be fine, just like to see Wright back in side he seems to give solidity back there and please (especially Billy) start looking across the line...how many offside goals have we scored this season? Especially at kop end?

I can accept it as part of a game plan to grind out results, we done it for 6 years under Warnock.

However what baffles me most is when the time wasting happens in the opening 30 minutes

Anyone on south stand confirm if disallowed goals were both offside?

Can't blame Gillingham the referee was pathetic, no control of the game letting Gillingham players get away with constant fouls blatant time wasting and ruining the game. The useless twat of referee should remember its supposed to be entertainment. I can't see how watching wankers wasting time is entertaining.

I was in south stand, both looked off to me. It's OK moaning about time wasting etc but it's up to us to put the game beyond them so they don't get chance. Far too slow in moving the ball back to front, the two times we moved it quickly we scored.

Need another striker IMHO, Lavery did well but then nothing on the bench. McNulty was like a wet rag.

their keeper (was a c#nt) but made 5 world class saves.. ours hasn't saved a shot in 2 games.. not looking for a scapegoat as they might have been unsavable but their keeper takes huge credit
the 2nd disallowed goal didn't look offside

I'm on south stand, first goal was well offside the 2nd I didn't quite catch although those around me thought it was just off.
How many offside goals have we had at the kop end this season?

Careful Jedi
Truthful statements like that are likely to get you called allsorts for being negative

Once again we had the chance to put the game to bed, but didn't capitalise. Although I thought we were superb in the first half and only their goalie kept them in it, one-nil is never enough - especially for us. It was a different game in the second half and two unbelievably weak goals conceded highlighted our deficiencies. Their crossing - from both corners and open play - shows that we are still poor in this area. Having a long-throw merchant also helps and their number 5 (Ehmer) had our defence and Moore - in a blind panic.

Two points here. If Gillingham played like that in every away game, do you think they'd be mid-table? No, we play into teams like theirs hands. We're naive, clumsy into challenges and consistently fail to 'work' the opposing goalie in every home game, particularly in the first half. This sends the visitors in at the interval with a feeling that a result is possible.

At half time, I was talking to the refs' asssesor and I told him that I thought that the ref. was having a good game - letting things flow and not too keen on flashing yellow cards. He said that his (Toner's) problem was that he was 'too nice' and seasoned pros. like Sharp and Bradley Dack would take advantage. He's only 25 and a teacher. He needs toughening up.

Don't agree with blaming others, we know teams waste time against us, we know refs are useless. It happens to every 'big/successful' team in each division.

UTB

Agree we only have ourselves to blame today as what should have been a straight forward win wasn't because the defence switched off for 10 minutes in the second half. However the timewasting is becoming extremely frustrating. Referees just look clueless how to deal with it, particularly from the goalkeepers. I am not sure what the answer is but perhaps it is something the ruling bodies need to give them some directives on.

Here's one of them that was from my view on John Street:

no real doubt there. He's off. I thought it was very tight at the time and I thought the Sharp goal was good (time will tell if I got that wrong too) , ultimately we've chucked 2 points away there which is a bit frustrating.

I don't blame them or the ref, look inside and you will find the answer and only then can you really do something about it. Don't buy this victim shit.

I agree with everything you say, except that we weren't good enough. We might not have been at our best, but we were more than good enough to win that game, and 9 times out of 10 we would have done.

We had more than enough chances to score more, and but for two moments of shocking defending we'd had won with ease. Their gamesmanship was as bad as I've seen this season, their manager was still telling them to slow it down even when they were behind, but we still had plenty of opportunities to win that game. Wilder and the players need to learn from today though, because this is how it's going to be every home game this season.

Totally agree with everything you've said, although I've seen worse sides for gamesmanship and certainly worse officials. Maybe I'm getting immune to it. TBH, I thought we shot ourselves in the foot after leading 1-0, it's an obvious thing to say, but teams don't timewaste so much when they're losing.

We created enough chances in the first half to go in at least 2-0. I thought we played some cracking football first half especially for the goal.

In my opinion the view from the back row of the BLLT doesn't give you much idea of what's happening when the play is at the Shoreham end, therefore I have no idea of what if any impact ( +or-) McNulty made ?

Today was a sickener but as someone hinted it wasn't a surprise given that our weekends would have been so much better with a 9 point lead over Bolton and we've learnt nothing if not that "it's the Blades way"

Not sure whether I'll be making any more journeys into the Bramall Lane end, 95% of the crowd just sat quietly like stuffed dummies, probably not regulars, lots of parents with VERY young kids

Only noise and passion came from four of us on the back row
