Apologies if this has been done before. I've read the boards for ages but rarely post and have just read a comment that got me wondering.

On another thread someone has mentioned that Oztumer is the best player in the league in their opinion and shouldn't still be playing for Walsall so was wondering what other players should have blatantly played for a better club or higher up the football pyramid?

A couple that spring to mind for me are Darren Ambrose who played far too long for Crystal Palace when they were mediocre and Peter Whittingham at Cardiff although admittedly he did play in the Prem for them.

I suppose Matt le Tissier really should go in there as well.

Thoughts?

I always thought Richard Sneekes should have played higher up the leagues because he was usually outstanding against us. Same for fatty Pressman.

Guess there's another thread in all this - annoying buggers who always had blinders against us.

Other players that had stormers against us but didn't ever get to the very top level:

Marco Gabbiadini
Darren Eadie
And one of the best corner takers I have seen, Rick Holden.

David Hirst.

The fat prick lived near me when I was growing up and I absolutely despised him.

Unfortunately he was pretty decent in his day although couldn't get much higher as The Pigs were a regular fixture in the Top 4 or 5 at the time.

Manure were sniffing round at one point from what I remember.

No they weren't, don't fall into the pig mythology! They finished 3rd in 1991-1992, rest of the time they finished 7th twice with hirst there and lower the rest of the time.

Man utd offered 4 million for him in 1992 and Francis turned it down, so they signed cantona. Ironically, he had been on trial at Wednesday.

Back to the OP - Fjortoft was a top draw striker who never really got a long run in the prem, Jason koumas should also really made more of his ability, and that lad Joey Beachamp at Oxford in the 90's always seemed to be a quality player.

I'm surprised that Bradley Dack is still in league one, though a combination of his dodgy back and his personality may be holding him back in this regard.

I thought mcshefferey could have played at a higher level longer than he did.

And one player I thought looked at home in the top flight who Bassett gave up on too early maybe? Chris Wilder.

Donny fans will tell you it's a miracle they've kept hold of coppinger all these years.

Keith Edwards - would surely have been a decent option at the top level for many years.

Colin Morris.

One of the finest wingers and crosses of a ball, Wingers still struggle to get they praise they deserve even these days, there seems to be some unwritten law saying you can't win games anymore by getting past the full back and putting a cross in.

za, you have my unerring support where Morris is concerned. He had every conceivable advantage a winger is meant to have, small of stature, tricky in ways that are rarely seen these days, and as effective as a winger is meant to be. A great crosser of the ball, brave, and would walk into this current Blades eleven with ease, but deserved to play at a higher level regularly.

I get that this is more for players who have been and gone but I'm surprised Anthony Knockaert is still playing at Championship level.

Never really given a fair crack when Leicester first got back up to the top league. Reckon he will take it by storm next season with Brighton.
