That last one confuses me a bit. Does he consider O'Shea a 'forward'? I wouldn't have thought so.

Why would we need to replace Brown... or is the right sided defender Riley? But he wouldn't be Brown's replacement.

As for the similar player on the left side... is that one Riley?

Whatever it means, that would seem like at least one unnecessary signing as Riley can cover both sides, and signing a striker rather than a midfielder seems unlikely.

I suspect that, if we got a few injuries, he might expect Hussey to be a pretty major weak link.

My thoughts are if we are signing O'Shea, then Wilder sees Duffy as the one capable of playing out wide. Personally I hope we sign a genuine winger still but it does seem unlikely now.

and the thing is with the last bit is what if Riley gets injured? Who covers both sides then? It is a little risky having one player covering two positions with no one else next in line.

But at the minute Hussey's still here, and Basham can cover RWB.

was just about to say didn't Luton have a highly rated forward? Thought it was you who suggested him Ricky.

Did the forward (striker) he may have been looking at play at Luton?

I'd guess he knows Danny Hylton pretty well...big-ish striker who could possibly be a swap for McNuts till then end of this season?
(grasping at straws here)

I'm not sure how long Hussey will be sticking around for, I reckon Wilder might just be about to conceed defeat with that signing and move him on. If Riley does sign I do think we still need cover at RWB so I'm with Chrissy on that one.

Jack Marriott, we've been linked in the past and his family are Blades apparently. Not been too prolific this season but he's quite a well rated player. Small, quite quick and skillful. He scored 2 v Chesterfield.

You might be thinking about Cameron McGeehan though, he's a midfielder. Good player, but he's broken his leg unfortunately.

Having listened to the interview in full I'll tell you what he actually said.....

"With Reece Brown going we need somebody who can play down the right, and possibly a wide player, and maybe a forward player as well"

Then goes on to say we're covered down the left and mentions Done being an option there.

So Giddings made a mistake. We're not after any left sided defensive player.

Neither Hylton nor Luton's other principle goalscorer McGeehan played against Chesterfield. McGeehan is identified as a midfielder but I don't know how Luton line up.

At the risk of shooting my load prematurely I'm struggling to think of a more proactive JTW.

We might not all be excited by the names banded about but we're certainly on it from the off, with the added bonus of not looking like losing anyone we don't want to.

Maybe Riley is the right sided player he refers to and O'Shea is the wide player.

But if Riley's the wide player then the right sided player and the forward could be two names we've not heard about yet. That would be interesting.

It's what local hacks do. They're not very good. That's why they're local hacks.

Anyone interested should listen to the interview, not commentaries on it. It's perfectly clear, for example, that when Tufty says a forward player he means just that, not a midfielder. We have excellent quality in midfield with the signing of Samir, not so up front. Until Leon gets going (he will) we have only Sharp and Lavery worth mentioning as strikers.

I don't think it's cut and dried what he means by 'forward player' to be honest. Because I'd expect Riley is the 'wide player' and we still seem to be after an attacking midfielder, with O'Shea being strongly linked.

Still confused!

Think that’s a bit harsh on Giddings. Always liked him as a commentator. The media age is such that, in their haste to get things online first, reporters make errors. Remember Sky Sports breaking the news that we’d signed John Obika from Swindon a couple of years ago before discovering they’d been had.

As for recruitment, I’d be happy with a versatile wide/ wing back type player like Joe Riley to provide cover and then a striker for which I’d be pleased with any of Evans, Taylor, Gregory, Akinde, Bogle etc.

I’d also be quite happy to see McNulty leave as well as getting as many as possible of Reed, Semple, Graham, Brooks, Slater etc. out on loan to further their development.

Wilder to Giddings: "You're not gonna break me..."

After you've been put through the wringer by Clem, no interviewer holds any fear for you any more...
