EEL - remains at BDTBL until summer

Think they are playing hardball to get some money but Wilder says every time when he's interviewed about transfers, 'I won't pay over the odds.' As it stands EEL is an integral part of the team and that may still be the case at the start of next season, irrespective of where we are at which point we're going to have to cough up for him.

Probably means he's earning a few extra quid from Wolves while he helps us get promoted too. Can't blame him for that!

They are just protecting their asset. Still reckon we could get him permenantly in the summer if we wanted to.

Win-win for us this season ar least. We've got what we all wanted and it'll give the lad a massive boost of confidence which should help his game.

If we do still want him if we go up, we'll have to pay the full asking price but we can cross that hurdle when we come to it.

I suppose if Wolves get relegated to league 1 then EEL should be great playing for them next season.
Fortunately for us I think Wilder will have a valuation on EEL and consider plenty of other options.

Don't forget that next season EEL might want us more than we want him.
So we might be able to turn the tables.

I can't see Eel agreeing to it if it's only to get a fee at the end of the season. Generally, the less time a player has on their contract the bigger the wages they receive because the buying club hasn't had to fork out as much.

Sadly I think this means we only see Eel in a Blades shirt this season

Can't say I get this. Wolves may now be entitled to fee as he will now be under contract to them at the end of the season and EEL has probably got a pay rise, as he wouldn't have signed otherwise. But, EEL has now limited his options as any club he wants to go to will now be paying Wolves a fee instead of him a signing on fee, and his wages will reflect the fact a transfer fee has been paid.

Unless Wolves' intention was to keep him all along and EEL was in on the deal and the loan was just what it said on the tin.

It could also be that the pigs are firming up their interest and Wolves have got a scent of the tuna man's money.

I'm happy he has signed, but what I don't understand is why it's become fashionable to say that EEL wouldn't cut it in the Championship?

He's been great for us, he is young, he is strong, he wins headers, he scores goals and I'm certain he could cut it in a league above.

Surprising news but Contracts are not worth owt nowadays, nearly all have a buy out clause. Big up Wolves for letting us keep him till the end of season. UTB

I think CW is delighted he's here to help the promotion push BUT will not be giving him guarantees about a permanent deal. How can he until he knows for sure what division we'll be in, his budget and quality of players he wants for each position.
EEL's agent will have said take what's on the table now. He could get injured and be stuffed in the summer with no deal if out of contract.

No issues for us. We go up we can get quality replacement in the summer

I've also been saying this all along but all you get from the naysayers, of whom there are plenty, is "that he's prone to the odd mistake".

IMO EEL could 100% cut it in the Championship. Seem to remember reading he has been dogged by injury when he joined Wolves so got limited time. What makes people think he can't cut it? he's relatively quick, reads the game well, 6ft something etc. etc..

But can we afford the c£3m tag on him + his tasty wages in the summer?

Almost makes up for the playoff defeat to them.....haha hmmm

I think it's his ability to deal with pacey forwards running at him with the ball on the deck that requires work. Chuck a ball in the air to him and it's his all day long. Run at him and he hasn't necessarily got the turn of speed to do much about it and thus requires the right players around him.

But we said that about Maguire and Southgate is watching him for England so who knows?!

Makes sense for Eel as he's now guaranteed himself 4 years higher wages in a sport where you are only one bad challenge away from not playing again. We can worry about signing him if and when we go up but given the money Wolves are meant to have I doubt we will be able to pay his wages .

Must be a big incentive for any player to hear fans saying "if you get us out of this division your sacked, because your not good enough for the division above".....
Talk about a kick in the teeth team talk.

this is the best result. Keep him till the end of the season, then take it from there. I don't think he would cut it in a higher end championship team, so depends how ambitious we are going to be! Over to mr Macabe and the Prince.

Yes, he has been great for us in L1.

I's only an opinion, and as an example JOC shows much more composure with the ball at his feet than EEL does or has during the season.

If you watch C5 Championship football, it's more than evident what is needed at that level.

But we said that about Maguire and Southgate is watching him for England so who knows?!

Exactly. I think United have been trying to outmanoeuvre Wolves and get EEL on the cheap but in the process of doing so have shot themselves in the foot.

I take the point that he isn't the best passer of the ball or necessarily the quickest. Having those attributes isn't essential in a centre back though... Wes Morgan and Robert Huth are the perfect example of that.

Makes sense, everyone gets something out of it. Wolves keep a long-term interest in a player they've nurtured, we get a dominant defender in L1 for the now and it doesn't mean we have to look for a replacement in the short-term. And for Ethan himself he's got a long term deal and the security that brings. Everyone's happy.

If Wilder wants him if we get back to the Championship, the price just went up! I think if we did finish the job the days of three CB's will end in the Championship as teams would have a field day against our wingbacks, so it depends whether he sees EEL in a central pair alongside O'Connell.
